CHIRP programming question.

Question

Posted

Hello everyone! Had a quick question to see if I'm programming my repeater in correctly via CHIRP. I'm currently trying to input data for a local repeater that has the data listed as output frequency of 462.675 MHz and input frequency of 467.675. Tone in and out both are 141.3 Hz.

In Chirp, I currently have the frequency entered as 462.675, tone mode set to TSQL, and "tonesql" set to 141.3 along with an offset of + 5. I've included a snip from CHIRP below as well to visualize.

Does this sound like the correct data input for Chirp? My main confusion was on the Tone settings. I was under the understanding that you would use "tone" as tone mode and 141.3 under tone if you wanted to listen to all traffic, and use the TSQL if you wanted to filter only traffic from the repeater.

Thanks for help in advance.

hello all! I'm a newbie and just got my mrs license (2 days ago :))

I like to ask if anyone can help answer and/or coach me regarding a few questions:

- when I request permission to access a repeater, what is my next step - do I need to wait to get a reply back from the repeater's owner for more info?

-I have some info regarding the local repeater from looking at the posted info about the repeater

-- output 462.625MHz No Tone

-- input 467.625MHz Unlisted

also I'm using chrip to program my UV-5R, not sure what info from the repeater I need and where to program the info into the chrip to upload to my UV-5R

any feed back is greatly appreciated!

Next step is to wait for the repeater owner to respond with tones necessary for accessing it. That is the approach I have taken and recommend. Remember, most repeaters are privately owned and maintained and public use is at the the owner’s discretion.

Once they respond with the codes for access you will want to program them into the radio. You can do that using the radio directly, Chirp or the manufacturers software. For Chirp, take a look at the screen shot in the post that started this very thread for some insight into what the settings look like.

Also, there are loads of YouTube videos with step-by-step instructions for programming your model of radio using Chirp.

Be aware that when programming your radio for repeater use you may need different codes/tones for Tx and Rx. The repeater owner should let you know if that is the case.

Welcome, and have fun.

i haven't tried it personally, but as long as it gives you access to the physcial ports, it's worth a shot.

i currently have Chirp on a couple computers; one is a 10+ year old intel atom-powered netbook running linux mint, the other is few year old intel atom-powered compute stick running win10; works fine on both.
