Another Newbie question - Programing MXT115 to reach the repeater

Hey from Atlanta, GA

I have worked with HAM so I am not new to radio, but I am new to GMRS.

Let's talk Repeaters.

I have a Midland 115 and I have seen videos on setting it up to talk to the repeaters, and I know have the channels set for repeater channels... but when setting the wake up tones.... I don't see that.

On my Midland, it is looking for something else... The CT and DC. The list here on he maps is looking for Tone Out and Tone in.

For example.... 123.4 for Tone Out and 123.4 for Tone In.... Would I just set the radio for 123?

or1234?

Please advise and thank you ahead of time.

Following in case I've missed something. I have a MicroMobile 115 as well.

My understanding is the Midland MicroMobiles work on a Narrow Band and we can not program the Receive and Transition as different frequencies, and a lot of repeaters have different tone in and out as you say.

I'm hoping I've missed something and I can get mine to work as well.

Are you sure you need 123.4? The standard code is 123.0, and there is not a 123.4 CTCSS on the standardized chart. On the 115, to get 123.0, you look it up on their chart, and choose code 18 under CTCSS codes.

I figured it out I think

I looked closer at the manual and it has a chart on the frequencies

LOL

It all boiled down the

RTM

Read the manual

Lololol

Thanks

I’m still not sure 100% but I still slashing away at it until I do figure it out.

LOL Yes, reading the manual helps, and yes, it has a chart. Good luck and enjoy.

I have a Midland 275, and the repeater access thing is still confusing to me.  So it appears that I need to select the correct channel for a given repeater - in this instance the frequency match is channel 21 - THEN I would need to program in the appropriate CTCSS code, which I'll have to look up or get from the repeater owner / manager.  Correct?  Apparently just turning the repeater feature to ON is not enough.  [The repeater owner is local and extremely helpful - I just hate bugging him all the time. :) ]

Yes, you're on the right track. Once you have the ctcss tone from the repeater owner, you'll have to check the mxt275 manual to see what ctcss code number that is in the radio (for example, the 141.3 hz 'travel tone' is #22).

The repeater option just makes the channels with the right tx offsets available (tx 5mHz higher, vs tx/rx on the same frequency for the simplex channels).
