GMRS Linked Repeaters are not legal.   HAM Linked Repeaters are..  Follow the rules. if you want to play with Linked repeaters, get into HAM..  These illegal linked repeaters are hogging up bandwidth...

Hey Einstein:

Tell me what this rule mean if you say GMRS repeaters can not be Linked.

§ 95.1749 GMRS network connection.

Operation of a GMRS station with a telephone connection is prohibited, as in § 95.349. GMRS repeater, base and fixed stations, however, may be connected to the public switched network or other networks for the sole purpose of operation by remote control pursuant to § 95.1745.

I highlighted what I think the actually relevant part is. They can be connected to a network so they can be remote controlled. Doesn't say anything about for the purpose of linking / networking repeaters together.

Copy that, but there is no restriction for connecting more than one repeater for being controlled remotely.

To control the repeater remotely. I don't read that to mean the same thing as "to be able to talk through networked repeaters", but to make configuration changes remotely, or turn them on or off.

 Yes, for the sole purpose of remote control.

IMO, your interpretation is correct.  But everyone has chosen their side on this and other rules and no one other than FCC can convince them otherwise.

You might think that, and in the absence of a definition I would agree, but the FCC defines Remote Control:

Remote control. Operation of a Personal Radio Services station from a location that is not in the immediate vicinity of the transmitter. Operation of a Personal Radio Services station from any location on the premises, vehicle or craft where the transmitter is located is not considered to be remote control.

And they define “Operate” in a way that seems to be more than the limited scope of remote control that you might expect:

Operate. Control the functioning of a Personal Radio Service station; in particular, cause a Personal Radio Service station to begin, continue or cease transmitting.

The FCC and common sense will tell you sole purpose of remote access of operating functions of a station, I.e. turning up, turning down the station adjusting power etc.   just as it applies to HAM repeaters.
what part of the following rule do you not understand

95.1733 Prohibited GMRS uses.

(8) Messages which are both conveyed by a wireline control link and transmitted by a GMRS station;
