cbeam2 Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 Does anyone have a recommendation for a window mount antenna to use HT in car? Quote
wayoverthere Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 (edited) There is a Nagoya version out there with sma connectors: https://www.ebay.com/itm/124178030161 (not recommended per @Lscott 's experience with this type) Rugged Radios ses one with a nmo base, but will likely need a no ground plane antenna: https://www.ruggedradios.com/products/suction-cup-antenna-mount American radio supply has a couple others too: https://www.americanradiosupply.com/window-glass-mounts/ Edited December 11 by wayoverthere edit with other's experience Quote

I have something similar, but with a BNC connector on the end. There is no ground plane resulting in a bad SWR match. The crappy coax shield is used as the other half of the dipole. wayoverthere 1 Quote

I think if I were going this route, it'd probably be the rugged for the ability to use a no ground antenna. Quote
nokones Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 I have very good luck with a Larsen Glass-Mount antenna. My VSWR on 462 megs is about 1.2:1 and 1.6:1 on 467 megs. https://www.arcantenna.com/products/pulse-larsen-kg450udpl-glass-mounted-whip-antenna WSDD439 1 Quote

nokones Posted December 12 Report Posted December 12 4 hours ago, nokones said: Laird does not have a Glass-Mount antenna They did have them back in the ASP days when they were ASP. They were cellular look-likes and they had them in the VHF, UHF, and of course the 800 bands. Those were the days when cellular was only 800 Megs. Quote
gortex2 Posted December 12 Report Posted December 12 Larsen is the best commercial antenna now. Since ASP dropped the line thats our go to antenna for those applications. tcp2525 1 Quote
cbeam2 Posted Friday at 12:57 AM Author Report Posted Friday at 12:57 AM Follow up question. Is there any antenna that you know of that is a dual band plus GMRS? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Quote
BoxCar Posted Friday at 01:56 AM Report Posted Friday at 01:56 AM There are several possible antennas that could be used. The key parameter is the bandwidth of the antenna. You'll need to see if it has enough bandwidth to cover both the amateur UHF frequencies as well as reaching up to 468 MHz for GMRS. It's doubtful you will find a satisfactory solution in a glass-mount Quote
WQFU858 Posted Friday at 07:21 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:21 PM I use the Comet CA-2x4SR NMO. It’s plays great for 2m 70cm ham & GMRS FRS, MURS. That’s the best antenna for wide band coverage it’s 35 inches high. Quote
wayoverthere Posted Friday at 07:55 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:55 PM The two I know with wide enough ranges are the aforementioned comet 2x4sr (which has worked well for me as well, and is currently on my truck) and the tram 1181 (some have had good results, not so great for me). Both can be a little picky about having a good ground plane. Quote
Reloader762 Posted Friday at 11:36 PM Report Posted Friday at 11:36 PM I've had this mount for about eight mounts now https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BRPL2TM9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Requires a SMA Male antenna or the use of an adapter if you want to use the SMA female type antenna. https://youtu.be/lMVlPSW4egw Quote
