Crickets from NOAA

Hello, my Baofeng UV9G is set to 162.475 to listen to NOAA. I've heard nothing for the last hour. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Try the other 6 NOAA frequencies? Without knowing where you are, we don't have any way to know what NOAA channel you SHOULD be hearing them on.

Omg 6HOURS without noaa?  if we only had any other way to hear about the weather!!!! Maybe someone should invent a World Wide Web and put weather info on it!!!!   Some times noaa goes down. Sometimes for hours sometimes for days.   It happens.  We just have to learn about the weather like people did 50, 100, 200…… years ago.

Stop with the negativity. We all know that you are just a hateful rude person with no friends. You really need to pull your head out of your forth point of contact and then see a doctor so that your headspace and timing can be reset.

And to answer why someone would want to listen to the NOAA channels, the internet might go out during a bad storm or the person might be somewhere that there is no internet or cell service.

If he's that worried then consult this site for the status of various NOAA weather stations.

This is a common problem when you don't set your time zone to your location and leave it set to Beijing.

NOAA was working perfectly for me and I didn't notice any interruption of signal. I don't even think it is possible as they have to many redundancies built in.

Decided to sniff around once I was home.

WSHI569's in Somersville, CT.

162.475 appears to be the closest one, and isn't reporting as degraded or as an outage.

So the question is: can he receive it on another radio and this one's misconfigured / goofy?

I don’t see why not. The NOAA stations TX 24/7 using wide band FM so any radio that can receive the frequency should work. Also you really don’t need a squelch setting if you’re close enough. Plus you shouldn’t be using any kind of tone either.

My local does have the random outage once in awhile, in my car I can usually pull in another semi local station

I can usually pickup two different NOAA weather stations at home. There is one in St Louis and one in Jefferson City that I can hear well.

They have 1035 transmitters. Currently 20 transmitters are down.

Is that firmware good for all UV-5R"s   Baufangs included?

According to the first sentence it’s for the GMRS-Pro or UV-Pro.  You might want to look at the BTECH site.

I did look at their site and also Baofeng which does not show any firmware updates..    I remember reading here at some point  that both BTECH and Baofeng radios are identical radios but i don't know if that is confirmed or not.  Hell, i have an old Baofeng UV-5R laying around i never use,  I'll try the BTECH firmware update on it. .   If it bricks the radio,, the trash can will own it..

Nope, it didn't work and no bricked UV5R trying.    All it got was a bunch of *** errors.

No, but you would be surprised by how many old computers I've picked up in past years sitting by dumpsters in the apartment complex I used to live in. Grabbed a few parts out of one and stick in another, a cheap hard disk from the computer store down the street and I was all set. Loaded up a Linux system and put them on my network. Ran them for years until the power supplies died. Then took out the drives and dumped the dead carcasses in the trash bin.
