Why?   New gmrs users literally just told the fcc they have read and totally understand all the rules for gmrs.  It makes you confirm this BEFORE you pay your fee.  Any one that didn’t read the rules when they said they did committed fraud.   This is the ultimate in spoof feeding. If some one want to know the rules THEY need to learn to find it them selves.  Geesh

I recommend that you add @Socalgmrs to your “ignore list”.  Life gets better.
Personally I prefer to have a link to the CFR page on the internet rather than capturing a point in time with PDFs:

Interesting that a new guy joins and immediately feels the need to give us the rules.

It was a nice thing for him to do. He didn’t lecture anyone; he just tried to make it easier for us.
You’ve been grumbling about things lately. Are you becoming infected with the socalgmrs bug? 😁

This is a double post but I’ll add it here because it seems more relevant:

what’s the rules defining the difference between a fixed station and a base station per 95.1767? Base is legal up to 50 watts yet a fixed station only to 15watts. What makes a station a “fixed” station.

From 47 CFR part 95.303:
Definitions...
Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only.
Base station. A station at a fixed location that communicates directly with mobile stations and other base stations.

Nope, just expressing my opinion when feel it necessary.

Here's a question.  I know that when you set up a repeater for family use only the repeater doesn't need to self ID.  And if it's a public repeater with many users it does need to self ID.

But what if I have a family repeater and invite someone to use it, basically only to converse with me since we are friends and he won't really be talking to any of my other family members.

Since I'm the repeater owner and I ID myself at the required times as well as my friend using his own ID.  Does that mean the repeater needs to self ID?

anyone that transmits over the repeater has to at the required intervals.  Family members are still suppose to but allowed to share your ID.  The way I understand, if only family members use the repeater and you use auto CW at required intervals, no need to speak ID.

The repeater must be IDed if anyone other than someone using the operator’s ID uses it. The mechanism isn’t stipulated. You as the repeater operator can do it manually. The regulation doesn’t require the repeater to automatically ID in any case.

So since I'm IDing, no CW is required.  Don't have plans on stranger to stranger use of the repeater.

CW is never required. It’s just an option.
As long as people can understand that you’re IDing yourself and the repeater you should be fine.
