Does it need to be unlocked. I realize this is a simple question. This is a 'specific info' example...

The Comet 2x4SR definitely does better with a good ground plane underneath. I have one mounted on a small metal plate that is bolted down to an expanded metal rack on my SxS and another mounted on the center of the cab roof on my 2010 Ford F150 Super cab. I get an SWR of 1.8 and below on 2m, 1.25m, MURS, 70cm, and GMRS with both setups. It's hard to find a good spot with a large enough surface for a good ground plane on a Jeep Wrangler. Going with an antenna that doesn't require a ground plane will work better.

GMRS Live is a variant of AllStar Link. Both use the Asterisk Server.

I believe the Rasberry Pi thing was also used back in the linking days to interface with the Internet.

Funny one I read about MURS
WSEL330 replied to Davichko5650's topic in Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
That must have been fun. I was a section leader for AAVC7A1 which carried the Battalion staff COM element but that was when we had RT246's and 442's and changed over to SIGARS (SP) -

Over use of call sign announcements on GMRS
marcspaz replied to SvenMarbles's topic in General Discussion
I wish it was that boring around here. We have the most uncouth people on the radio around here. One lady got on the repeater (not simplex) to tell her husband to go break-up the kids from fighting because she was taking a crap and couldn't get off the commode. -

But it is vitally important, if not imperative that they first discuss their recent Bunionectomy and the status of Myrna Mae's Hernia prior to getting into the nuts an bolts of antennae... -

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to do that. -
These antennas are sensitive to the mount type and location. I ran an SWR scan on mine when on a roof rack type mount. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/615-ca-2x4srjpg/?context=new There is also a Diamond antenna very similar in design. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/613-nr240ca-roof-rack-mount-swr-and-photojpg/

Some sellers are actually selling unlocked versions on Ebay.. I saw a few couple weeks ago on Ebay. I messaged the seller and they said they would ship me an unlocked uv5r on request.

I have the CA-2x4SR mounted on my Jeep. It's on a corner mount just above the taillight. My SWR in GMRS is less than ideal, but 2m is near perfect. I'm looking to try out the Laird B4505CNS next for GMRS. I don't think there is a flat enough ground plane to help out my GMRS numbers. SWR: 462 - 2.03 467 - 1.8 146 - 1.08

makes sense. I contemplated the uv5r plus ones but i cant find anything reliable that says they come unlocked. im not trying to "use them in an unauthorized manner," and i am smart enough to use chirp to code out tx on emergency bands and such to prevent accidental transmitting, but i want the freedon to tinker how i see fit with gmrs simplex and such while using my uv5g plus's for actual communication. yes I picked the lowest possible barrier to entry in case I get bored with the entire thing and throw them in a drawer... I can always upgrade as I grow more if i keep with it. I plan on studying for HAM as well and if I stick with it, getting that license as well.

Password for Baofeng UV-5RM Pro GPS Software.
WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's question in Technical Discussion
None of those passwords worked. I reached out to Baofeng to see if they could provide the passwords needed. Thanks for trying. -
You only need to post the query once. Having the same question in multiple places makes it difficult for you to learn of good suggestions/answers to you issue.

I've been hearing that more and more.. Either they are not locking the new ones or they are "accidentally" shipping the non-U.S. models into the U.S.

I have a Jeep Gladaitor with a AluCab canopy Camper with 2ea 200w solar panels. They are mounted on 3 rails, rails are Alumnum as is the camper and frame work of the ridged panels. I have a Midland MXT 575 and will be using this to talk to others on overlanding trips from desert to mountains. I would like a antenna no taller than 18" and would like it mounted if possible on the middle rail or the rail closest to the cab. Note the Jeep tops are fiberglass so not mounting their.. I also will be runing a Kenwood TM-V71A so if anyone has knowledge on it ..same location for its antenna. I won't be using both at the same time and don't want just 1 antenia for both. I would rather not mount anywhere else. Antennias will be permanently mounted. Thanks!

I've never heard the likes of such behavior. No ID. Well. How uncivilized. I bet they use DCS tones too. What has this world come to?!?!?!?! -

WSAA635 replied to WSAA635's question in Technical Discussion
So it'd be the radio password IF I'd have created one otherwise it's be a more generic one. I'll give it a try, thanks. -
I must have gotten lucky. the two UV5Rs i received yesterday came full unlocked. [I own straight GMRS equipment too.. I bought the 5r's on the cheep for educational reasons]
