  2. ok just ordered the UV 5 G for my son and myself. We decided together on this radio.! Did we do the thing? Just wondering. thanks in advance: FatRat56
  3. i just got a DM UV 32.. When i get back from camping I'm gonna check it on the Tiny Spectrum. My experience with some of the Baofeng's I've test is hilarious with with their harmonics. I've seen second and thirds just about equal to main carrier. My Hytera's are pretty clean. The DM 32 sounds good, I'm getting good reports with it.. I like the radio

  5. I few years ago I tested my Yaesu FT3D and my BF-F8HP with an SA. On frequency, there were no side spurs on the BTech, but there was a pretty decent size spur on the bottom of the signal on the Yaesu. However, there were zero harmonic spurs on the FT3D compare to something like 15 spurs plus/minus the carrier frequency of the BF-F8HP. And several of the close harmonic spurs were at power levels close to the same as the intended carrier frequency. Like, within 5 or 6 dB.
  6. 95.1763 (a) & (b) are enough to make it clear you're wrong. Also 95.1749. And I'm not going to respond to anymore of these BS interpretations.
  7. There are no base stations in GMRS. There are portable (HH), mobile, and control stations. A mobile radio run from a power supply at a home is classified as a control station as its intended use is to contact other mobile stations or control a repeater that connects to other control or mobile stations. A HH is considered as a mobile. I

  9. A neighborhood watch is my intent but only during emergencies - not worth trying to get people involved while they have the regular communications. But I don't know if we'll do routine check-ins even then; just monitoring at set times is the main plan. I understand it could be an indication of somebody in trouble if they fail to check-in but it could just be they're busy so I don't know if that justifies check-ins. It can be worked out at the time it's active. The unwritten one - you mean you didn't read it? (haha). Go back and read two places: repeater definition in section 95.303 and station types allowed to use 467MHz (95.1763(c)). And the FCC clarification in this topic: https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/10063-base-station-cannot-use-repeaters/#findComment-106907
  10. I'm pretty impressed with this DM32UV.. The CPM is not too bad. It certainly looks like Baofeng borrowed some programming peramaters from Hytera and Harris CPM. If you've ever used either you will slip right into the Baofeng DMR CPM. For the most part i've been playing with analog on thjis radio and couple digital channels on MURS Both work great.. The Scanner on this radio is probably the best i've seen in a Baofeng. Especially choosing off the Zones.. Programming via the front panel is also the easiest i've ever experienced with a Baofeng.. I did purchase one from RadioDitty before i won this one. Baofeng shipped my prize radio and i received it in two dayx.. I'm still waiting for the one i purchased form RadioDiddy two weeks ago.. Once i get the other radio, i'll put a good test on digital and encryption. I can tell you though, you analog guys will love this radio just for the mere fact of programing and all the options.. The Zones and Scanning features will get you hooked on this radio. And the screen is pretty decent. So far so good.
  11. I can guarantee most of these HAM radios tuned to GMRS, with proper power levels and bandwidths programed, are 100% cleaner than most of these 'cheap' chinese radios out there .
  12. That kinda depends on why you're doing it. I think it's a good idea for a neighborhood watch or a prepper group. What rule are you referring to?
  13. I definitely will start a new thread and post photos once I'm done putting it all together.
  14. We do check ins to see how your equipment is working and to see who's participating. If you have multiple radios to check that is usually done after all the ID blocks are taken care of. Last winter I found out I was coming in pretty crappy and them more so as the check ins came down further in the calendar. Water in the line or antenna. Never figured out which. Replaced both and all is well. It's not just attendance.
  15. Yes, if we had just a bit more of this many of us could stop announcing our freshly bestowed call signs into the silent void.
  16. I thought that, too. I'm currently using a Midland MXT-25 Ghost antenna on a magnetic mount attached to the cap of my Big Green Egg. It's on a deck about 15' off the ground so I'd say it's 20' in the air, which I know isn't much at all. I'm surrounded by Army Corps property and pine trees but have nothing but clear sky over head. Using this set up, I can simplex roughly 3 miles, but that's with an HT and a rubber ducky so I'm not really sure how many fars I'm getting as I lose TX from the other person after 3 miles and so they come back. I guess I could get them on a cell phone and just keep driving until they couldn't hear many anymore...but haven't tried that.
  17. OK, here comes the part where the new guy learns something, I guess. I'm on the simplex channel that I hear the repeater on. Or at least I was. But then I learned about offsets, so I programmed in a channel with the RX frequency of the repeater and set an offset for 5mhz higher, still no joy. Repeater is listed with DCS tones. I have tried both with them programmed and without and still nothing.
  18. Sounds perfectly legitimate to me. I suppose once I've been at it for awhile, I'll be in the same boat. Currently have two HT Baofengs, a President CB, a Midlands HT CB, and a BTech 50V2 that's going in the Jeep. It's not much, but it's a start.
  19. I assumed that was going to be the answer. I was just curious. As a new guy starting off, I'm struggling to be able to scrape together enough for A radio, much less several.
  20. I hope you share photos when you’re finished. I love seeing builds like this.
  21. Nice installation. Welcome to the party!
  22. On the H3 it'll show what mode you are currently in. If you are Rx then it'll show 462 and when you press the PTT and Tx it'll show 467
  23. That makes a lot of sense! Thanks so much Steve. I think at 1.6 on those channels, i'll leave it for the time being. I have a few idea on how to adjust the mount to get it more straight up, but will leave that for another day.
  24. Well, they could take check-ins just from new users or people who have announcements. Checking in every week with nothing to say is boring and annoying for others to avoid. Also, the check-ins should be mobile and handheld only so new users learn the right way by example.
  25. 23-30 transmit on 467 and receive on 462 to allow full duplex operation by the repeater.
  26. 23-30 came in at 1.6 I was a bit confused, as my Tidradio H3 Plus shows channels 23-30 as 462 channels vs 467. So i was basing everything off of that. Thanks!
  27. I agree that we don’t get to tell people what they may discuss. I like Nets though because sometimes they’re a great way for people who are just starting out to learn how to use their radio.
