  1. Past hour
  2. I find it amusing how topics get beat to death. It’s as if there is nothing else to do besides argue about stuff that doesn’t matter. Life is short and I don’t see the point, but hey….lets talk about linked repeaters again!
  3. Every day for 46 years and my love for her still takes my breath away. But what does that have to do with a GMRS forum where presumably people come to discuss GMRS? Did you come here expecting people not to discuss and even argue minutiae about GMRS?
  4. And that is why I avoid any and all cheap cables with clone/pirated Prolific chips in them. It's bad enough that Prolific drivers have not been updated in years. I've had issues with some cloned Prolific chips on Windows and MacOS. I have a couple that I never could get to work on either operating system. Even Linux doesn't like those cables.
  5. Have you seen a naked woman? My God... they are terrifying! They get whatever they want, win every argument, and suck all the sense out of your head. No thanks.
  6. You are not listening,, 'It's the Winds'
  7. That is how it is with some of our club members. And we all enjoy hearing the kids talk on the GMRS repeaters talking to Grandma and Grandpa. Some of the kids are as young as 5 and all of them do really good using call sings when required and waiting their turn when a group of people are on the repeater. Some of the kids might not ever get into amateur radios but I know a few that definitely will.

  9. I guarantee that was off a repeater. There is zero simplex in the Victor valley. It was either crestline or mesa crest. Both cover from Barstow to Huntington Beach and up into Beverly Hills. This is my home I listen and use gmrs every day and I promise there is no simplex traffic in the Victor valley.
  10. I hated those winds. They would always blow my little Dodge Shadow all over the place when going over Jack Rabbit pass in-between Ft Irwin and Barstow. Though summer at Ft Irwin was no fun either. The summer winds came out of Death Valley.
  11. All cables with a chip require a driver. Some versions of Windows have the drivers pre-installed, but not all. Because there were a lot of counterfeit FTDI cables, the pre-installed drivers in Windows 11 check for counterfeits which sometimes can cause problems.
  12. I don’t see the usual black banner with dollar sign that indicates you’re a premium member, but sometimes that get out of sync between the two different portions of this site. Premium Membership is $50 annually. I know Rich has added additional membership levels that don’t cost the full $50. If doing as Gil recommended above doesn’t answer your questions then consider reporting your own post to catch Rich’s attention.
  13. It’s not on the forum site, you will find subscriptions on the mygmrs.com repeater/map site. You will need to log on there just like yo do here, open the control panel by clicking in upper left hand corner then scroll down on the right to subscriptions.
  14. The new cable worked. Make sure you buy a FTDI cable with the chip in it. No drivers to load. Just plug and play.
  15. A ground plane plate???
  16. The Diablo winds.
  17. Them Santa Ana Winds work in mysterious ways
  18. They definitely are not legal for GMRS. Every time I try to use mine on GMRS frequencies the FCC helicopter lands nearby to write me a ticket.
  19. You can't measure SWR on handheld radio antennas without very specialized equipment.
  20. Hello, I just had a $25 subscription charge by myGMRS.com on April 26th which I think is for access to one of the New York City GMRS repeater groups. I'm happy to pay it (I think it is a renewal from last year when I first signed up), but I'm confused that I can't see it listed anywhere on my account. And I actually also can't see where my annual subscription for myGRMS.com is listed (pretty sure I am a premium member). I can see this New York City GMRS repeater club listed in my profile, but no way to leave it. Please advise! Ian
  21. Great little radios. Don't think they are legal for GMRS...
  22. Hello, I have the HYS-771N SMA FEMALE GMRS Antenna and I'm getting a SWR of 19.9 on my Tidradio H* GMRS. I would avoid using this antenna.
  23. Threads like this have me thinking some of y’all have never seen a naked woman.
  24. We know all about the Chevron Doctrine. Where the regulatory agencies decided they could be judge, jury, court and prosecutor of all decisions. And then make sure all the "fees" are made payable to them.
  25. All regulatory agencies interpret their rules to their favor, from the ATF to the other end of the list. FCC is no different. Unlike some of the other agencies they don’t seem to enforce their interpretations very often. I have no idea how you reached such a conclusion, and it’s not worthwhile trying. I’m glad they post both the rules and the regulations . I even agree with many of their interpretations.
  26. It's the kind of rivalry where only 1 side thinks it's a rivalry
  27. Maybe the signal was working its way bouncing along through the Cajon Pass and up through the Santa Ana Canyon with the winds?
