  1. Past hour
  2. EASY PEASY that even a lowly Private can understand. Legal FRS radios can't transmit on the GMRS repeater channels. All bets are off if someone is using an unlocked radio.
  3. Please explain this one to us...
  4. Yes following the regs does matter and why I stated the following: One really can't tell if someone is on a FRS radio or GMRS radio when using simplex channels as the FCC messed up when they allowed both services on the same channels. Obviously you won't ever hear a FRS radio on the GMRS repeater channels. Again. GO with what works for you on how often you say you call sign as long as you are at a minimum giving it every 15 minutes and at the end of your conversation.
  5. Read the back and forth again. Just adding humor as I sit here at work and ponder my existence.
  6. @OffRoaderX did I miss something? I didn't see you call anything crap. Or was there a ninja edit? LoL
  7. No, Sir, I am unfairly projecting my inner instincts on to a noble Matriarch. I am profoundly embarred by my profiling of CCR's. Please find it in your stony little heart to forgive a peasant....No, I realize you are an asset to this community and appreciate your dedication to help. I have struggle with programing a repeater but only invested a short time doing it. I am refamiliarizing myself with the machine and manual. This started way back when shinola was equivalent to feces to me.
  8. i mixed a barch with caramel.. May as well enjoy irt
  9. Radio Dork
  10. Do not confuse me with "some people" who apparently only come here to try and make themselves feel better about spending way too much money on their toys by making fun of or demeaning other people's toys.
  11. Crap, umm....how to integrate into my enigma machine to take over the world or stuff I am too lazy to read, comprehend and try. Youtubes are more fun. I am sure it will come up as I get bored and understand its limitation or my own mental short falls. BUT thank you for not calling it crap right outta the gate.
  12. It's a UV-5RM, same as a AR-5RM, and any other radio that looks like it.. What specific "more info" are you looking for?
  13. Yesterday
  14. I purchased this thing a long time ago before the learning curve kicked me square in the...yeah. I was that guy that bought a radio for something other than GMRS freq's (no, not you guys...frequencies, well you guys too). I recently got into HAM license which this thing is for. I have tried to look for videos and etc... for it but not an exact match to what I am see on the machine or manual. Obviously the instructions leave a little to be desired. Is this the same as something else which is in use now like UV5-R(M). I can basically operate it but want more info. Thank you in advance for your help.
  15. Doesn't following the regs matter? Many, maybe most, are not. I'm also curious how we are supposed to detect who is an FRS user.
  16. Something like this. It's on the cheap, but not $12 cheap. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/browning-br-400-assembly.html
  17. Below is what I wrote up for myself on how to program a repeater into the radio manually. Hand Program a Repeater: Switch to VFO and enter 462.550, Menu 11 is RX CTCSS 141.3hz, Menu 13 is Tx CTCSS 110.9 hz, Menu 23 is Offset Direction +, Menu 24 is Offset 5.0000, Menu 25 Memory. Then switch back to Channel mode and go to you new saved channel. Good luck!
  18. Does anyone have any experience with these repeaters? I have four of them and have been able to program all but my latest one purchased and cant get much help from china. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Absolutely not. First, you need a 50 ohm cable. Second, you need to keep the run as short as possible. If you can use 10 feet, use 10 feet. It should be something like LMR400 or better or even hardline. I recommend not ordering from Amazon. They’re not experts. They’ll just sell you anything. Instead use one of the professional radio companies or ham radio dealers.
  20. Is this what I should get? https://www.amazon.com/GE-Connectors-Shielded-Satellite-33532/dp/B002HESF4K/ref=sr_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SKR40BO43toCi49IrfFHmnKw_ToZpKdgIhoN3crulNHrYZinkZb0c_n6hlU2do387MmhXn8moGyGhFTGJFA55vCd0p5p08MY4g5eVqKZUe8pqI7a5ZQSHPj6zJPtwTZhS7sdsXs5rmUzuPAf7OAhMu-kgh6ppXYUHBc_YkMnqjazgFMo1t_tZpxTsEllKCMwvWGrpkcOFSGBw3dmjAqX6URcM2uvTh2sY-hT2x4h-ew.erBz2-Dr6TvolceVYuFdgITlv5ru3Ork8mhub_DRP90&dib_tag=se&keywords=Coaxial%2BCable%2BRG6&qid=1752618223&sr=8-1&th=1
  21. That's why I made my comment about people needing to eat a Snickers Bar as they seem to be very hangry over stuff that doe not matter. In the end it doesn't really matter how you use GMRS as long as you follow the FCC regulations and guidelines. Same goes for amateur radio too.
  22. Or you try it both ways. You’ll see hams rotating Yagi antennas to determine the antenna orientation for the signal they’re chasing (mostly VHF and UHF).
  23. Just learned something. But the only way you could ensure both antennas were horizontal would be if the vehicles were some how "related". Like from the same company or agency.
  24. Kinda what they/we do in the military to some extent at small unit level.
  25. I have been in GMRS for about a year now and have had fun with it. I recently got a HAM license. I'm not sure what to call myself... GMAM - (Gee Ma'am) SPAM - Not completely HAM but there is some in there 'GMRS HAM - (Gee Mrs. Ham) - O.G. GMRS and HAM Radio Dork - self evident HARS I think I will settle with John. Kinda smooth, flows...Yeah that's it, John.
  26. If the radio you are trying to talk to has its antenna mounted sideways (horizontally polarized) you’ll get better results by mounting your antenna the same way, unless the signal is bouncing off something which also can change polarity.
  27. The H3s are know to come in (new) as transmit defective. If you have a second one try that one. It will actually transmit a good couple hundred yards even though it's power output is very low, no where near the claimed 5 watts. Maybe reverse the tones and try that. You might be confused as to which is which. It gets me every once in a while when they use encode and decode instead of tx and rx. And definitely what SteveShannon said.
