  1. Past hour
  2. I have the CA-2x4SR mounted on my Jeep. It's on a corner mount just above the taillight. My SWR in GMRS is less than ideal, but 2m is near perfect. I'm looking to try out the Laird B4505CNS next for GMRS. I don't think there is a flat enough ground plane to help out my GMRS numbers. SWR: 462 - 2.03 467 - 1.8 146 - 1.08
  3. makes sense. I contemplated the uv5r plus ones but i cant find anything reliable that says they come unlocked. im not trying to "use them in an unauthorized manner," and i am smart enough to use chirp to code out tx on emergency bands and such to prevent accidental transmitting, but i want the freedon to tinker how i see fit with gmrs simplex and such while using my uv5g plus's for actual communication. yes I picked the lowest possible barrier to entry in case I get bored with the entire thing and throw them in a drawer... I can always upgrade as I grow more if i keep with it. I plan on studying for HAM as well and if I stick with it, getting that license as well.
  4. None of those passwords worked. I reached out to Baofeng to see if they could provide the passwords needed. Thanks for trying.
  5. You only need to post the query once. Having the same question in multiple places makes it difficult for you to learn of good suggestions/answers to you issue.
  6. I've been hearing that more and more.. Either they are not locking the new ones or they are "accidentally" shipping the non-U.S. models into the U.S.
  7. I have a Jeep Gladaitor with a AluCab canopy Camper with 2ea 200w solar panels. They are mounted on 3 rails, rails are Alumnum as is the camper and frame work of the ridged panels. I have a Midland MXT 575 and will be using this to talk to others on overlanding trips from desert to mountains. I would like a antenna no taller than 18" and would like it mounted if possible on the middle rail or the rail closest to the cab. Note the Jeep tops are fiberglass so not mounting their.. I also will be runing a Kenwood TM-V71A so if anyone has knowledge on it ..same location for its antenna. I won't be using both at the same time and don't want just 1 antenia for both. I would rather not mount anywhere else. Antennias will be permanently mounted. Thanks!
  8. I've never heard the likes of such behavior. No ID. Well. How uncivilized. I bet they use DCS tones too. What has this world come to?!?!?!?!
  9. So it'd be the radio password IF I'd have created one otherwise it's be a more generic one. I'll give it a try, thanks.
  10. Today
  11. I must have gotten lucky. the two UV5Rs i received yesterday came full unlocked. [I own straight GMRS equipment too.. I bought the 5r's on the cheep for educational reasons]
  12. MURS Multi User Radio Surfer
  13. Try 000000. If that doesn't work, try 123456. Another I saw online was, 059500. That is unless you have created a password for the radio already, if so use that password. Phil
  14. But only the FrankenRepeaters have the controller dangling from the side and have a Rasperry-Pi sticker on it.
  15. All repeaters have some kind of repeater controller. There’s an open source repeater controller built on the raspberry pi.
  16. Not necessarily.. But, usually. Generally speaking, on average, usually, statistically speaking, most of the time, a purpose-built repeater is going to perform better than a Frankenrepeater.
  17. Ok so stay away from things like this
  18. Only home-made/rinky-dink type repeaters come with those raspberry pi things.. It operates as the 'controller' between what is probably two radios scotch-taped together to control or coordinate the two radios and/or do things like Auto-ID. A REAL repeater, has no such rinky-dinkn'ess .
  19. Newbe question time. Why do some repeaters come with this raspberry pi thing.
  20. I ordered a couple of the new Baofeng UV-5RM Pro GPS radios and was looking over the Baofeng programming software. There's a couple areas(Program Password, Frequency Range, Embed Information) where they ask for a Password to unlock it. Does anyone know what it might be? I looked at the Baofeng website but there's nothing there about this issue. Thanks.
  21. RF Agitator
  22. Thanks for responding but the membership page is noy available.
  23. https://midwestgmrs.org/ I would look there for info.
  24. I would like to join the Midwest GMRS Organization. I live in Aurora Indiana & have a base & mobile set up.
  25. Most of my work in HF/VHF in the ASA was making sure no one could hear your radio or you couldn't hear anyone else's. That and DF'ing you to call in that airstrike or listening to find out what you were up to and countering it with force. Swearing at Bird Colonels in Russian to get them to blow up on the radio is just a fun way to spend a few minutes!
  26. No. Totally different companies Sent from my SM-S911U1 using Tapatalk
  27. "Well, you see, little Timmy, sometimes a man buys a radio so he can meet other men and exchange signal reports and talk about antennas." "What about talking to friends and family?" "Yeah yeah, they do that too, but first, let's talk about mag mounts and ground planes..."
