  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks guys. My Repeater is coming today.
  3. i remember some 10 years ago subscribing to Norton Antivirus and having to close my bank account because them suckers kept charging for the service i canceled. Cancelling the card didn't work because Norton pays the banks for some stupid service that allows them to follow a customers account via Visa.
  4. Not familiar with that particular radio, but have you looked for an option in the menu labeled TXP? On my ar5rm its option 02 on the menu.
  5. GMRS etiquette - almost as prevalent as FCC enforcement!
  6. There’s a subscription service that allows you to manage all of your auto-subscriptions… See, this is why the USA is the greatest!
  7. Every 15 minutes and at the end of your conversation. As far as the other etiquette issues, pretty much what the previous replies have noted. As far as calling other users, Callsign or name or nickname, whatever gets their attention if they're listening. Some areas have active simplex and repeaters in use, but for the most part GMRS is a "bring your own" type of service. In my case it's my wife and son using it when up north away from cell phone service, around the large city lot at home and with a small number of friends near home we chat with occasionally. I rarely use repeaters. Have fun however you use it, and don't overthink it or take too much umbrage if some self appointed radio cop gives you grief if you do "something wrong."
  8. My personal guess would be DTCS since it's a series of digital numbers sent over the air. The attached paper describes in some detail how the system works. With tones it all depends on the quality of the TX and RX radios. A few have commented that radios with low levels of deviation have failed to access some repeaters. Also there are cases where ding-dongs using something like DMR, against the rules on GMRS, have caused false triggering of the CTCSS squelch function to turn off the audio mute. 9. Not even close. It requires a chamber and precision measuring and generating equipment to mimic the ground planes provided by the radio itself and the person holding the device.
  10. Doesn’t matter at all. Some people even mix them up.
  11. them damn 'auto subscribes' will get ya every time
  12. What is better to use DTCS or CT codes? On a repeater & radio.
  13. It's a tiny town near Smugglers Notch
  14. I come here for real info and rational topic-focused discussion. I do not come here for all the trash talk regardless of how witty someone may think their comments are. This topic isn't even about linking, let alone all the crazy stuff brought up. I've decided not to post whatever good info I may get unless there's some place I can put it where it won't get trashed by smart-elec comments.
  15. Today
  16. So why do you come here? I’ve noticed that a significant portion of your comments are actually about other people’s questions or comments and frequently negative, not actually contributing to the conversation.
  17. I find it amusing how topics get beat to death. It’s as if there is nothing else to do besides argue about stuff that doesn’t matter. Life is short and I don’t see the point, but hey….lets talk about linked repeaters again!
  18. Every day for 46 years and my love for her still takes my breath away. But what does that have to do with a GMRS forum where presumably people come to discuss GMRS? Did you come here expecting people not to discuss and even argue minutiae about GMRS?
  19. And that is why I avoid any and all cheap cables with clone/pirated Prolific chips in them. It's bad enough that Prolific drivers have not been updated in years. I've had issues with some cloned Prolific chips on Windows and MacOS. I have a couple that I never could get to work on either operating system. Even Linux doesn't like those cables.
  20. Have you seen a naked woman? My God... they are terrifying! They get whatever they want, win every argument, and suck all the sense out of your head. No thanks.
  21. You are not listening,, 'It's the Winds'
  22. That is how it is with some of our club members. And we all enjoy hearing the kids talk on the GMRS repeaters talking to Grandma and Grandpa. Some of the kids are as young as 5 and all of them do really good using call sings when required and waiting their turn when a group of people are on the repeater. Some of the kids might not ever get into amateur radios but I know a few that definitely will.
  23. I guarantee that was off a repeater. There is zero simplex in the Victor valley. It was either crestline or mesa crest. Both cover from Barstow to Huntington Beach and up into Beverly Hills. This is my home I listen and use gmrs every day and I promise there is no simplex traffic in the Victor valley.
  24. I hated those winds. They would always blow my little Dodge Shadow all over the place when going over Jack Rabbit pass in-between Ft Irwin and Barstow. Though summer at Ft Irwin was no fun either. The summer winds came out of Death Valley.
  25. All cables with a chip require a driver. Some versions of Windows have the drivers pre-installed, but not all. Because there were a lot of counterfeit FTDI cables, the pre-installed drivers in Windows 11 check for counterfeits which sometimes can cause problems.
  26. I don’t see the usual black banner with dollar sign that indicates you’re a premium member, but sometimes that get out of sync between the two different portions of this site. Premium Membership is $50 annually. I know Rich has added additional membership levels that don’t cost the full $50. If doing as Gil recommended above doesn’t answer your questions then consider reporting your own post to catch Rich’s attention.
  27. It’s not on the forum site, you will find subscriptions on the mygmrs.com repeater/map site. You will need to log on there just like yo do here, open the control panel by clicking in upper left hand corner then scroll down on the right to subscriptions.
