IIRC, there is a "none" option in the CTCSS/DTS drop down list. -
When i had my JK Jeep, my Midland SMRS antenna was mounted on the left cowl back side of the hood. It worked fantastic in any direction. Now with my 10 meter mounted there, not so good. In fact i couldn't find a single place to mount my 10 Meter that worked as will as it does on my truck.

Okay, one more thing. How do I tell it I don't want a CTCSS or DTS code enabled? "No SQ" doesn't seem to be one of the options. -
You are 100% correct that they are not only our representatives, but they are also there to serve us.. But It's cute that you think this would actually accomplish anything because they all seem to have forgotten about that part of the job.

You know, having seen that graphic many times, I just noticed a couple things I hadn't before. First, there's no rating for a hood lip or fender mount, just a mag mount. Second, the permanent trunk mount is actually rated more loss (-2.8db) compared to a mag mount on the trunk (-2.1db).

Programming Tidradio td h3 using USB-c
MarkTheNewf replied to VETCOMMS's question in Technical Discussion
The problems are that it's on a small phone screen and it seems like I have to be logged into something before it's usable. Not sure if that second part is a requirement but it's damned irritating and smells like some sort of click-bait. If worst comes to worst, I can do that, but I'd rather use CHIRP. -

I've used a UART gizmo in the past for connecting stuff to my home theater PC with good success so it's good sign that the K1-USB cable has that in it. -

Wouxun KG-1000G-PLUS external speaker issues
WRYZ926 replied to OldJunk2's question in Technical Discussion
The down and dirty simple answer here is to either use to use two separate mono speakers or use a dual mono to stereo adaptor to a stereo speaker with separate left and right speakers. And the only stereo speakers I can find on Amazon all have rechargeable batteries or need a separate USB power supply. -

Well I was trying to keep things as simple as possible so that everyone would understand and also so they would know what does and does not work. I kept it simple so everyone would understand. Some got confused when I tried explaining impedance matching in the past. And yes yo are correct that stereo to mono plugs do not combine two channels and that is why a single mono speaker will not work. The stereo speak will work since it has a left and right speaker. Which is what I though and mentioned in previous posts. -

Does it say on the website that fees for licenses not issued is non refundable? If not and you get no refund call your congressman or senator. They are your representatives in government. Make them earn at least a little of their bloated salaries.

BoxCar replied to OldJunk2's question in Technical Discussion
Stereo to mono plugs DO NOT combine two channels but keep them separate. Combining the two channels through wiring only affects the impedance seen by the amplifier and speaker. To work correctly, the two channels have to be fed into a mixer which combines the audio signals and keeps the impedance of the circuit constant. What the stereo to mono plugs go is combine the ground return path while putting one audio signal on the tip and the other to the ring. -

Heliax is the best, but a lot depends on the repeater itself. How much power does the repeater have? What antenna are you planning to use? A low power repeater (less than 25W) can usually get by with LMR 400 or better coax for that length run. Coax loss can often be made up with antenna gain. Where the repeater is located, terrain, and intended use also factor into the need for Heliax over coax. Repeaters only cover the area from the antenna to the radio horizon and increased power only means the signal is stronger in the same area determined by the antenna type and placement.

Okay I have an update for everyone. A dual mono to single stereo y adaptor will work BUT only if you are using a true stereo external speaker with two speakers. Here is the y adaptor I used: J&D 3.5mm Stereo Female to Dual 3.5mm Mono Male Audio Cable, 3ft 1/8" TRS Female to 2 x 1/8" TS Male Y Breakout Cable Splitter Adapter Speakers I tried: Icom SP35 - mono plug, single speaker Xiegu GY03 - stereo male plug, single speaker Anker portable wireless speaker - connected with stereo cable, dual speakers I could only get sound out on the radios left -Side A with the Icom and Xiegu speakers. There was no sound output on side B. The true stereo Anker speaker worked just fine and I had equal volume from side A and B The volume was not cut back/ sound muffled with the J&D adaptor like there was when using a mono to mono y adaptor. But you definitely need to use a true stern speaker with two speakers for it to work. -

Just my opinion. I feel that LMR400 is mostly recommended because people don't want to spend the money on Heliax. GMRS users can be as tight as amateur radio operators when it comes to spending money. It really boils down to using the best that you can afford. And for most, LMR400 and equivalent is good enough. I will agree that Heliax is definitely better, especially for repeater use. We use 7/8" Heliax for our GMRS repeater with the antenna at 400 feet above ground. 1 1/4" Heliax would perform better but the 7/8" was free.

Good choice on the 1/2". Should you ever want to upgrade to 7/8" new reel ends can be had for $1.00 a foot if you know where to look for it.
-
Do I believe my eyes? Someone that actually nows their stuff. Using anything other than LMR-400 is totally taboo from what you read on this forum. Did I tell you that it's totally and utterly foolish and breaks every terrestrial and celestial boundary of human stupidity to use anything other than Heilax for UHF.

Thanks for all your responses, I doubt I will see my money returned but maybe I'll get lucky
