Need a 3D belt clip for my Baofeng! Any suggestions
WRUU653 replied to Andrei's topic in General Discussion
You’re right that belt clip sucks. This is one on eBay, you’ll note that it doesn’t have a hinge mechanism. I just left mine off and put it in a pocket or a holder like this. -

The Kraken system is not all that is cracked up to be. A amateur radio club near Springfield , Mo has 2 or 3 Kraken systems and they haven't had a whole lot of luck with them. The Kraken doesn't work so well in a noisy RF environment. That club had theirs mounted at each repeater site. -

there is one in each group or forum. nice to meet you. now I will wait for actually useful comments -
I added a DMR Repeater and some of the TalkGroups that it listed but for some reason, even though I put them in Contacts and RX and everything else when I go to the Digital Channel I just see the Repeater and don't have any option to go to a TalkGroup within the Repeater. I'm going to need to watch more videos because something just didn't go quite right. I can't even hit the repeater(that I can normally hit Analog) even though I have the right CC for it. This IS going to take a bit of work but I'm sure I'll figure it out and have an "AhhHaa" monument where it all clicks for me.

According to the FCC Part 95 (E) Your entire immediate family is covered under your license. However, since the license is in your name, you're solely responsible for what is transmitted over the air. It's a good to remind family members of what can and can't be transmitted over the radio. Each member should also be reminded to ID at least every 15 minutes during a lengthy conversation AKA a QSO. If you really want to stay on the up and up with the FCC, you may want to a user's log, this way as the license hold are apart present with family members while they're using their radios. You can have a record if the FCC has a reason to contact you.

Looking for info on eastern Mass .625 repeaters

Plain squelch will do that too. Drop your squelch to 1 or 2 or low on a analog dial. -
Soooo... RIP Shawbute, I guess?
FenBTStrat replied to EnderShadowborne's topic in General Discussion
Not too long ago on the Shaw Butte repeater, there was some person ranting on about a number of things using foul language and threatening a number of people and wanting to meet them somewhere to fight. The next day there was no access to to the repeater. -

Hi! I am the happy owner of the Baofeng UV-9G which I like a lot. But I hate the beltclip and, besides, while I still have the screw, I lost the clip itself during a hurricane. What I am looking for would be a 3D printer belt clip which would use the screw from the original clip. And since I don't have a 3D printer I have to purchase that somewhere. Can you recommend a person or an online store which I could get such a belt clip from? I should also clarify that I don't like Baofeng type "fat" belt clips, I am hoping to find one which can use the screw, but would remain "flat(er)" than the think Baofeng ones. And, to clarify, I can use a search engine, the reason I ask here is to get ==>personal<== recommendations or suggestions Thank you very much!

Yeah...led and some times led and crackling but no choice... yes I thought that non- repeater traffic may be the reason. I was trying to try random pairs of tx and rx codes but low prob of getting the right combo... -

Probably the most tedious thing about DMR is having to program a separate channel for every single talk group on every single repeater. So for instance if you want worldwide (91) and North America (93), statewide, your state chat, a local talk group, parrot (9990), and a disconnect (4000) that’s seven channels all with the same frequency, color code, and time slot (except maybe for the local talk group). If you want the same talk groups on 10 different repeaters you program 70 different channels. RT Systems has sort of a solution to the tediousness of this in their DMR Calculator. It automatically generates the different channels. OpenGD77 has the best solution and one that’s so obvious and simple that you have to wonder what the hell was going through the minds of the people who designed DMR. You create “talk group lists” which you then simply link to your repeater channels.

Audio issues with UBIxB and Retevis RT97S.
txrodehog replied to WSAP632's question in Technical Discussion
regarding simpleusb.conf: COS - change to usb-invert CTCSS - change to usb TX DSP LEVEL - change to 999 RX level is going to be different for each radio; re-run simpleusb RX again for proper settings using the level bar again…you have set 500 whereas with some radios that default may be just fine but not always with some other radios. I hope this helps! -

Do you have a Rx tone set? If so maybe it's blocking out the audio. Or the other possibility is a repeater close enough to pull off full quieting. -

Not easy to find someone doing intermittent keying. But to just play music? Just sending out a beacon saying come get me. -

RayDiddio replied to marcspaz's topic in General Discussion
I can tell you that the repeater association (ham, not GMRS) I belong to had been dealing with someone transmitting music every night at the start of a pretty big daily net. Months of it happening, repeated complaints to FCC and zero action or even a response. A little harmful interference is nothing big to them. It took tracking them down and knocking on their door to ask them to stop while handing them copies of the FCC "rules" on such matters. It stopped. Not because of the FCC rules, but because they realized that you can be found. -
That's about right. It gets more complex if you want to start jumping between linked reperaters by "dialing" into them, A.K.A. Reflectors. https://www.vkdmr.com/using-dmr-reflectors/ https://pnwdigital.net/c-bridge-network/ Getting confused yet?

Something good the guy in the video did was look up the repeater call sign to see if the info on repeaterbook was current or not. If you watched the video you'd see that the CC of 1 was wrong and the current CC was actually 4. I have 2 or 3 DMR repeaters that I can use locally and a few others that are out of my area but places I may travel to that I'll probably add. It really isn't much different from analog, just more steps to get to where you want to be. If you take each step in a logical order and not get ahead of yourself then is should work out ok.

If the repeater had a DTMF decoder you'd put it on BOT and have that along with the repeater tone for double security. -

GreggInFL replied to marcspaz's topic in General Discussion
Can the PTT-ID (or similar) be detected by the repeater and used as a filter, like a tone? If so it would be one way to limit access on a private repeater used by a small community -- would not work for something large as the ID would eventually get passed around. -
I'm thinking about getting a Radioddity DB25-G GMRS Mobile Radio 25 watt.
GreggInFL replied to WSBX980's topic in Guest Forum
I bought one about a year ago. I had it replaced because it was going through some weird power on-off cycle when he PTT was pushed, but the replacement has worked fine. It was on sale for $5 less than the 20 and had good reviews (thanks Randy) and a few more features. -
The problem I have mostly is discovering what talk groups are supported. There is no central database for DMR repeaters that has this info. Usual you need to search on line for a web site for the repeater, if one even exists. Then, what info you do find is likely outdated, talk groups no longer supported, new ones added and which of the bunch of DMR networks it connects too for linking etc. For some repeaters the setup is fairly simple, others it's a huge PIA. See attached file for an example. The best practice I found, if your radio supports it, is grouping everything by repeater in a zone for just that repeater. Then one channel memory is programmed for the particular parameters required for one talk group. You can have a few to dozens of entries for just one repeater. See attached photos. This is for my NX-1300DUK5 radio. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/290-nx-1300duk5/?context=new N8NOE DMR Repeater.pdf
