You, sir are blessed. My wife thinks it's "cute" when I go nerd out in my office with my radios. When we have bad storms coming, she's the first one to ask if my radios are charged up just in case. I love her.

Go for the extra license. Doesn't give you much more other than not having to worry about what portion of the bands you are in and bragging rights, but why not?

As far as I know... no. Question is, why would you want to remove it? If the repeater owner some day decided to check their requests and answer, then you would finally get what you were asking for. If they don't ever answer, well, nothing has changed one way or another. I understand and agree that it would be nice to clear it so you don't even have to look at it again, and I'm not sure why it isn't an option. But I guess it lets you keep track of repeaters you never have to bother asking permission for eveyr again because it seems no one is answering it anyway.

Is there a way to cancel a repeater request on mygmrs.com ? I am new to GMRS and would like to remove my request since it has been about a month without any response.

Good evening everyone! My name is Seth and Im located in Murfreesboro. Currently I have a set of UV-5R handhelds and a pair of Radioditty DB20-G GMRS mobile radios for my family vehicles. Usually only on GMRS channel 20 using CTCSS 141.3 to hear everything go on around me. I will monitor RUTHERFORD 600 at CTCSS 114.8 and SMG1 at CTCSS 229.1 when Im trying to really reach out and contact others. When I got my first pair of HTs they were the TDH3 but the HAM version. Shortly after I discovered they could be switched over to GMRS. I looked into it and discovered the licensing was just $35 and that covered the family. The process was a pain and by the time I had finished up I had 8 windows open that were required to obtain this license. Not really the surprise. After playing with these radios I was surprised to find out my wife didn't hate them. After a short while I ended up getting a mobile tranceiver that I put in the house as a base station. My wife didn't really care for talking on it but she did like to listen to the active repeater. Eventually I put up a good antenna and I got a mobile unit so I could keep in touch with my wife. She enjoyed being able to contact me. I put up a repeater at my shop and even though communication was difficult because of hills and trees she enjoyed contacting me by the radio over texting or phone unless she couldn't get me through the radio. Eventually I found out my antenna and/or coax was faulty and changed that out and now the connection is much better. My repeater is 50w and the mobile is 20w and the repeater can get to the house better than the house can get to the repeater. So I decided to get a 50w for the house. Ordered the power supply and the radio. The PS came today and my wife was excited. She knew nothing of what I had ordered. She thought I got a new radio. I was a bit shocked. The normal expectation when a husband spend money without the wife knowing about it on his hobby is to be frowned up or worse, being yelled at. She was disappointed that it was a power supply and not a radio. She still doesn't know I ordered the radio. I didn't want to take the surprise away from her when it does arrive. Can a guy be more lucky.

I doubt that the 712EFC will stand up to 112 MPH winds either. We had winds high enough to blow down a 24-36 inch diameter maple tree on Easter Sunday. The winds were getting close to 70 MPH that day and my vertical antennas sure were dancing around.

I need to sand and paint the base of my UT-72. But it's still working just fine.

What radio are you using? If I understand correctly, you're in Death Valley or somewhere around there? Your geography is more favorable to radio waves than what most of us have. I can't get a hundred miles here even with my 63" antenna and 50 watt radio. But for my normal shopping trips, the little UT-72 works just fine.

No, that wont solve anything. Follow these steps, EXACTLY: Confirm that the repeater is up/active/turned on Confirm that you have the correct channel & TX/Transmit tone Ignore the RX(Transmit) tone and REMOVE it from both radios Confirm that you are correctly saving/writing your changes to the radio by looking/confirming the changes ON the the radio itself Get close enough to the repeater that you can SEE it Get your two test radios at least 50 feet apart and test If after all that, its still not working, then using GMRS radios/repeaters may not be for you.

I hear nothing; no kerchunk Have asked for radio checks - dead air I do have a Yaesu with MARS mod that I can listen / Tx from on GMRS as well. What process could I follow to see if it's setup to the repeater correctly or not? Set the KG-935G+ on RPTR channel 16R (467.5750) and other on 16 (462.5750) ... I've tried this and also get nothing on the Rx unit. Have RT Systems software for all units. Maybe I need to call them? Thanks for the help, all. Sorry to bother with such an elementary question.

While many antennas are better the little 72 it is light years better than a salt shaker and for the money and simplicity it can’t be beat. One of my trucks still has one and it does 100miles simplex from an 20w mobile unit each and every day 7 days a week 10hrs a day with zero issues. It’s good in that for around $150 total you can get a really nice 20w water proof radio and antenna with coax that will work hard every day and tx over 100miles. Many people spend closer to $1000 and dont get any better, clearer, further signal.

Really, my point was that an antenna that does what you want is a "good" antenna. I see a lot of comments about how the UT-72 and UT-72G aren't very good antennas or even are "crap" because other antennas can be heard much further. That may be true -- I haven't tested it -- but the 72 and 72G have served perfectly well for what I've done. If I can't get the signal out with a UT-72, I can't get it out with any other 1/4 wave antenna either. Obviously, if I were offroad rather than in an urban/semi-rural setting, my results might be different. Today I was able to get a response from someone on a GMRS repeater 59 air miles away in my truck, but that antenna is 63" tall. You never get something for nothing.

The 712efc is rated at 112mph. I'd be surprised if it could handle that. My SWR is between 1:1 and 1.01:1 across the entire band, including 467mhz repeater channels. I was amazed. Best I got with my other antenna was 1.15:1 at the optimum frequency.

The few Tram antennas I have used or setup for others were all easy to tune. And the included instructions are good. I do use a Comet CA-712EFC and it has been a good antenna that has survived several storms with 50MPH + winds without issue.

Your attic antenna set up is almost exactly the same as mine. Ours is in our third story attic. I intended on replacing it with an external. But after doing some testing and realizing our topography meant an external antenna was not going to give us much benefit, I just stayed with the Midland / Pizza sheet set up. Low tech for sure, but it does exactly what we need it to do.

Which is not only very simple, but the antenna is very forgiving, so it has a wide margin of error.

Two thumbs up! The Red Engineering (RE) Simplex Repeater (SRPT-03) has been discussed in another post. This review is about the new piece of equipment by Red Engineering. Thay have taken a SRPT-03 with all the connectors and placed it inside a polycarbonate waterproof case with a custom made precision-molded ABS insert and foam liner along with a waterproof SNA connector for connecting an external antenna. This is somewhat similar to what RE showed on their website with the original simplex repeater where they put everything inside a Pelican M40 Micro Case. It required that the end-user drill and install a bulkhead SMA fitting for the antenna and any foam insert they wanted. The primary issue with this setup was the size of the M40 case required that the Baofeng UV5 use the small 1,800 mAh battery which really can't go a full 2 day period. The FieldLink Edge uses an Evergreen 56 Waterproof Dry Box Protective Case which allows for the use of the twice as large 3,600 mAh battery with USB connector for charging. The reason for buying a premade case from RE is that the simplex audio and antenna connectors are sized perfectly for the case and both the radio and simplex repeater fit tight and snug into the insert. It even has a velcro strap to hold the radio to the insert. It comes with a right angle SMA connector for the outside antenna which mandates that the case be in the horizontal position. I simply replaced that with a male to male SMA connector so I can put the case up a tree in the vertical position. I'm also getting a male SMA to BNC connector to make the use of the outside antenna easier. Unlike the M40 case this one easily accepts a small carbineer and or small dia. rope to the case. You can also buy an additional mount so the case can be secured to a wall, antenna mount or whatever and be removable. The case is not really made to accept usb c power (not enough room). If that is your requirement then it might be better to get something like a Pelican 1150 and make all the connections yourself. This case is for someone who wants a well-made, ready to go waterproof case where all they bring is something like a Baofeng BF F8HP and hook it up to use over a two day period. Just remember to push the little micro switch next to the right of the USB-c connector to initiate the repeater.
