Amazon is *not* the place to buy antennas. ? That looks very much like a knock-off of the Diamond X50A, which is a pretty good 2m/70cm ham antenna, and does fine on GMRS, at least for me. I appreciate the tip, good looking out.? I'm still on the sidelines about spending another hundred bucks, at the moment, but I think your right about antennas and amazon and will order from a reputable dealer (i.e., Antenna Farm, DX, HRO) if I decide to pull the trigger on this one.

NotARubicon adds his name to the display of his KG-935G (not the one he set on fire, I don't think), it's only possible using the software, so fingers crossed.

I don't have a Windows laptop, so not yet. I may see if I can get my brother to connect his to it and see what it offers. I'll be shocked if there isn't some way to do it. If not, I'd love to see them do a firmware update that adds it to the menu. So many cheaper radios have that feature.

I'm going to look for some smoke or tinted plastic that maybe I can jury rig onto it. I've got mine up in the center stack, staring me in the face at night, lol!

I've had my Wouxun KG-1000G for a couple weeks, it's an incredible radio. However, I'm also a little frustrated that the screen can't be dimmed. I hope a firmware update is released that'll give us the option. Page 23 of their admin guide mentions "Three Color Selectable Backlight", but no directions on how to change. Anyone know if the options are available using their software? PS, here's a shot of it mounted on the passenger side of the console in my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.

If you are serious about getting your Technician license, I will suggest the Yaesu FT-4XR. You can program this radio with PC software and by entering a software code, enable it to work on the GMRS channels. The radio is not FCC approved for GMRS use, but it functions on those frequencies. I guess I should have clarified what I meant by power supply. The RT-97 has a 12V input, and includes a 120V to 12V power supply to provide power from a household outlet. What I meant by power supply was a battery or solar panel, for example, that would provide 12V to the repeater. I guess what I should have said was that the RT-97 doesn't come with a 12V source. The user has to provide a source if not using 120V AC power.
