  1. Looks like it started up in VFO (frequency scanning) mode rather than memory channels. Look for a "vfo/Mr" button, either on the mic or faceplate (don't have one to look myself, going off of https://www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2021/01/wouxun-kg-1000g-programming-and-menu-options.html ) to switch modes.

  2. I tried the RT Systems application on my RT-60. Only one code is allowed for RX and TX, unless the repeater you're using uses CTCSS on one side and DCS on the other. I now own a RT-65 for that very reason. I like the way the menus work on the 65. I have several Wouxan GMRS radios, so I was very familiar with their menu operation. So picking up the 65 for the first time was like using an HP calculator after only having TI models. After a couple of days I now think the RT-65 has a better logic. The RT-60 is built like a battleship. Yaesu first built this model in 2004. It's solid and I intend to use it on 4WD trails using simplex.

  3. Thank you. That helped me get pointed in the right direction. After some digging around I found that the #6 button switches it back to channel mode - sort of. It still doesn't look the same as it did, but it sort of still works. I should never have used the software to change the settings. By the way, when using the software it made my monitor all blurry. For anyone else who comes across this look at this:

  4. I’m not there to be able to help, but regarding a mast, I used two 10’6” x 1-3/8” chain link fence pipe tubes to create a mast for my TV antenna. About $20 each. Anchored to the eaves.

    GMRS travel channel

Let me get this right.... you come in here more than a week ago, make 1 post to stir the pot on a subject you know very well has history on this forum. Act shocked by the same responses that are in every other thread about this and then pop smoke with a backhanded snarky attitude. Does that about sum this up? Did someone put you up to this or are you just terrible at being a troll all on your own?

  6. I still have to explain to die hard dispatchers that this is the case. Analog sites complain about analog, while digital trunked sites complain about digital delay. Then others ask what the tones are, MDC ID, Basestation ID (BSI), which then leads to a discussion on Pre and Post sending of MDC ID versus Pre only. I like MDC ID on my own repeater, but respect those that do not want to hear it on theirs.....there are only a few other GMRS repeaters in my area.

    GMRS travel channel

Well, where I'm going with this is that the travel and calling frequency has already been established. Why is it necessary to come up with another one. Just support the existing standard.

    MDC signalling on GMRS.

As long as the ID is made by the rules who cares what language is spoken on the repeater. You’re not trying to hide or obscure the communications so it shouldn’t matter to anyone else.

  9. GMRS rules used to specifically mention that any Non-English conversations still needed to ID in English (or CWID). I'm not sure if the newer version of the rules still says that, but I can tell you that my family regularly uses non-English on the repeater, and allows the CWID to take care of identifying. I don't really care if A$$C10WN gets upset about that.

Your u tube must be broken... But basically, find the "repeater channel" for the repeater, tune to that channel on the radio, hit the menu button, go to the CTCS or DCS setting to add whatever the TX/Transmit code is for the repeater (dont worry about the RX/receive code for now), save it, and you're done. I highly recommend investing a few minutes in the manual that came with the radio (and is available online if you already put the manual in the trash) and get familiar with how to use the radio and menu options.

  12. I just got my GMRS and figured this would be more appropriate for my needs. Friday/Saturday we drove from middle TN to Columbia SC. I found very little simplex action (only heard ONE conversation outside ATL), I-40 had the gorge shutdown and Google routed us, and nothing on the repeater channels (absolutely my fault in programming I'm sure). That was disappointing but I'm used to that. I have a long way to go, and have a KG-UV9GX back ordered thanks to Randy! LOL I try to do more reading than typing but thought I would add, I've earned my technician before the GMRS. The sad hams have totally turned me off the ham aspect. I also get that people tend to be myopic and post before researching. I see it all of the time on the gun boards I frequent. To I gotta say, as Randy predicted the sad GMRS' are surfacing.
