  1. Ok here's my temps: Sitting idle/receiving only for 1 hr = 102F Transmitting at low power several times = 130F Transmitting at high power, multiple times over 10 minutes = 160F So as I suspected mine is getting hot (more hot than yours).. Now that i have a fancy thermometer I'll measure my other 2 (one in each Jeep) and see how they run. EDIT/Update: I put a little fan near it (this is a base-installation) to move more air around it and now it's running at about 120 after transmitting at high-power for several minutes.

  2. We call those "loud talkers".. closely related to low-talkers and long-talkers.. The WORST is a long-talker, long-talking while eating the mic..

    Vehicle cup holder mount

Need an inexpensive cup holder mount for your small GMRS mobile? Try a 3" plumbers test plug. I got mine at Menards.

    GMRS travel channel

The almighty and great Queen Randy(Notarubicon) has officially designated, in the absence of leadership, that GMRS channel 19 should be the "official" channel for traveling ie.( highway use) for those who are operating GMRS radios. I agree with him if we start the movement it will be the standard just like channel 19 was in the day of the CB riggers. Only those with a GMRS license are "authorized" to key the PTT on the radio however. All fun aside this is a great idea and should be unofficially adopted just like channel 19 was for the CB radio guys. What say you?

  6. I agree with you but his suggestion corrected the problem. He wasn’t 100% sure himself. I did go back to the previous code and the problem returned. I called him back and told him what happened. His suggestion avoid that code pick another you have plenty. Lol He said it didn’t make sense to him either. He just said he’s had a few friends that have have issues with dcs and just conveyed what experience they have had but can’t explain why and they too changed codes and problem resolved.

    Sporadic DMR activity.

I'd like to see NXDN or P25 Phase 1 allowed. NXDN is 6.25kHz (which seems to be the way the FCC is heading anyway), and P25 sounds good. I don't see the attraction for DMR, so that, to me, is out.

    GMRS travel channel

Based on my subjective and nerdy calculations, there are a little over 10,000 licensed GMRS users that are affected by this, which works out to about 7% of the United States licensed GMRS users. I say we (the 93%) use channel 19 anyway hahaha

  9. I would support the idea if it weren’t for the fact that 10 - 12 million people live far enough north that they are not allowed to use channel 19 because of an agreement with Canada.

  10. Big national internet-enabled net for GMRS, No. Organically formed local net with a clear local mission, perhaps. Michael WRHS965 KE8PLM

  11. Nope. Sorry Im not a fan of nets. They should be on Ham radio in my opinion. A national net just ties up repeaters when no one is listening to them.
