  2. Man... I don't know why everyone raves about Ghost antennas. This one has no range. Once I'm a few yards away from the other radio, I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Weird part is, the cable is fine and the SWR is spot-on, 1:1. Picture for attention. [/TROLL]

  3. What about the POSY 625 repeater on the map?

  4. You may be hearing a linked repeater. There's quite a few of them here in AZ too. I'm just outside of Phoenix, but because of the linked repeaters, I hear a group talking in Albuquerque almost daily when I'm scanning.

  5. The EVX repeater wants to connect as an IP device - even through your USB cable. You may have some type of conflict with internal addresses vs. the IP address of the repeater itself. Since you cannot change the repeater IP until you actually can read/write the repeater, you are left guessing what address might be conflicting. The standard IP CPS connection address for an EVX repeater would be: 192.168.10.1 You also need to have open Ports in the 50000 range, with no funking forwarding or firewall blocks on your PC. There's a guy named Wayne Holmes over in the EU who works for Motorola and has his own personal blog hat dives into Motorola and IP addresses/networking/port issues. He's worth bookmarking, and he has more information, patience and details than you would ever get out of me: https://cwh050.blogspot.com/2012/10/mototrbo-and-ip.html https://cwh050.blogspot.com/2013/08/ip-repeater-programming-repeaters.html

Putting together a "good" repeater using components built as a repeater will run over $1000.00 before adding an antenna, feedline and installation. It's easy to spend $5K to get a repeater like you want on the air.

  8. Thanks. Yeah she used to worry when I window shopped but she knows I usually research something to death first. I told her about some unobtainium OEM car part the other day that came up for sale at a great price and she says "get it, you'll wish you had".

  10. Or three, they try to put a repeater package together on the Cheap with a couple of CCRs and learned that they won't work and won't go to the next level and do it right by investing in a real repeater package. I learned that lesson and did it right? I should've not watched that video from buy2wayeadios.com. That was a good move on their part to help sell lots of radios.

  11. So I told my wife about your comment "after all it's on sale" and she says (jokingly of course) "you're not allowed to play with Sshannon anymore.? I also saw that. Linkable like the Wouxun KG-1000 for repeater use. They even make it easy for you with this set up also on sale. After seeing some peoples issues with the two radio repeater set ups I remain skeptical of how well this set up will work. I bet they meant to say 5 watt rather than 50. No one uses an editor anymore.

  12. Thanks, Marc; you’re right. I went down the wrong path. I appreciate the correction.

  14. Just a note that as a SAR guy like someone else above, we have our own trunked system or use a VHF ~150MHz frequency. I think it's a fine idea to say that we should listen to a given GMRS/FRS though and to popularize that. Often times, even with a Spot/InReach we get within a few hundred yards but a few hundred yards on a mountain side is a HUGE amount of terrain that can take an hour or more to close in on. Being able to get in touch with folks on radio would be extremely helpful.
