  1. That guy is a clown..and a shill for all the cheap Chinese radio companies that tell him what to say, and he doesn't know what he's talking about because he doesn't have a H.A.M. license.. I know all this because he lives rent-free in so many people's heads here at MyGMRS that keep watching and then complaining about his videos even though they hate him so much... So all that stuff must be true.

  2. In addition to Wouxun, any commercial Part 90/95 radio will allow configuration of all memory slots. Many radios have 128 or more channels to program. I use Kenwood TK-3170. With buttons on the front panel programmed for "home channel" and "reserve home channel" and option to have busy channel lockout it could be very safe and reliable radio to give to 5yo or somebody who has no idea about radio.

  3. Big news in the myGMRS world: we have beta versions of a brand-new iOS and Android app ready for users to test! Android Users On your Android device, go to the Google Play Store and search for myGMRS or click here. Install the current app version (1.3.0), which is the older version. Once you've installed the app, you will see a Join the Beta section on the Google Play Store listing for myGMRS. Join the beta test by tapping Join and wait a few minutes. You will then see a new app update available that will install the 2.0.0 Beta version to your device. iOS Users Use the following link to join the public TestFlight beta for myGMRS: https://testflight.apple.com/join/ZrWc4Dkm We're eager for feedback on these apps, as we've been working diligently on creating a unified modern app experience that will allow us to add features more easily in the future. You can share your feedback in this thread.

    Welcome!

Howdy to everybody, I've been a lurker on the forum for a few months now... great knowledge here, still learning much about GMRS and radio in general. Matt

  5. Congrats to you on your exam. The callsign will come through eventually, in the meantime enjoy SW listening, useless banter on forums, annoying youtube videos, and 4th of July preparations.

  6. You can load up memory slots on both the Wouxun KG-935G+ and the KG-S88G. Both are good radios.

  7. My guess is they’re receiving transmissions…

  9. I have both the Wouxun KG-935G and KG-UV9G Pro. Both of these HTs have numerous slots available (999 slots) for programming GMRS (TX & RX) and/or HAM/MURS/Aircraft/ etc (RX only) as well as any PL tones for both simplex and repeater GMRS channels. Great radios and very versatile.

  10. I can only speak for the Wouxun KG-935G Plus (since my KG-UV9D Mate is not GMRS only), but I seem to be able to use all 999 memory slots for RX/TX whatever I want, as long as they are within the FRS/GMRS frequency band. I imagine the KG-905G (less expensive option) will allow the same. If you want simpler/cheaper, I think Baofeng UV-9G will allow full use of all slots, but I am not 100% on that.

  11. I would look to wouxun. Maybe users with the 905, 935, and kg1000g can chime in, but I know my 805g will let me use all 128 memory slots as I please within bounds for gmrs, or receive only outside that (I want to say it's 400-470mhz) on uhf.

  12. I have three of these and not regretting the purchase yet, if anything just for the coolness of operating the radio with the app. I did some testing of the range via texting and was able to get about a mile in my hilly neighborhood with the stock antenna.

I've got a Argent simplex repeater I use every now and then on my base station. I use it for testing radios and antenna's by myself in the field. It makes testing nice not having to rely on somebody manning the base station or annoying folks on the local repeaters with a radio check every 30 seconds when swapping antenna's or range check. Also keep it around if somebody wants to hear what they sound like on a normal repeater. Plug in the unit into the mic jack real quick and repeat the repeater back to the repeater. Say that 10 times fast. Neat little trick I've used a few times. I

Sounds like you are connecting, and it sounds like it is a 'simplex' repeater which records what you say, then re-transmits it.

  15. I have a 1486 that I have used with my KG1000G, my XTL5000, my repeater made of two KG1000Gs and my VXR7000 repeater. it works very well - on simplex i'm getting 40+ miles with it. Per the instructions I cut all 3 elements, and IIRC, the SWR was about 1.01:1 . Ignore anyone that tells you to not follow the manufacture's instructions how how/what to cut.

You're transmitting out of the designed frequency range yet you are complaining because it doesn't work as well?

It's a great radio with many pre-programmed frequencies to play with/listen to and it has many fars. Sometimes I just stare at mine and caress it softly.
