Given that a significant amount of people on GMRS and in the form are also amateur radio operators and there is an amateur radio section of the form, I would say it's quite relevant. Steve's signature definitely brings more value than a single post you have made so far. How about bringing some value to the conversation, instead of insults.5 points -
I thank god he included an 'off' switch and or a channel selector.. There are some you tune out or turn off..4 points

Hey! Don't be insulting. We're a lot more than just comical or naive. Some of us are *both*!4 points

Said the guy that identifies as "123"... I wouldn't say so far you have a knack for reading the room. Lots of very helpful Hams here and Steve is one of the most active and helpful. I have yet to see anything at all helpful come from you. you came here telling people not to pay taxes, called them foolish, comical and naive. All this before the whacko comment. So yeah go back and look further to see where it started. If the shoe fits. Now you're telling @marcspaz what's relivant... well I'd say you might want to try turning things around but I think the ten count has begun and the bell is about to ring. Good luck I hope you work it out.3 points

Does an NMO mount require electrical ground?
WRXB215 and one other reacted to SteveShannon for a question
Capacitive coupling is only for the AC of RF. Capacitors block DC. No DC ground for your antenna is needed. However, poor electrical connections between body parts can be a cause of noise so people frequently bond body parts together with copper braids.2 points -
If you choose Tone, only the transmit tone is important. Your radio will let all transmissions it receives through, regardless of the tone or lack of tone. If you change it to Tone Squelch, then your radio will only reproduce the audio from radios that exactly match the tone. I recommend not using Tone Squelch until you have a better understanding of how it works. Your transmissions still must match the input tone required by the repeater.2 points

I don't see it used much but it was supposedly used a lot by XYL's as an alternative to 73. It means hugs and kisses.2 points

SHTF Radio preparation and models?
AdmiralCochrane and one other reacted to WRKC935 for a topic
If you can afford the 50 bucks a square foot for the fine copper mesh cloth for a faraday cage large enough to stand in, you need to buy better radios than Baofengs and use sheet metal or aluminum window screen which would work almost as well.2 points -

Generally speaking, where I'm from, 88s are male-on-female hugs and kisses. As a result, my friends and I use 85s, which are closed-fist bro hugs. Why she wants to hug me is anyone's guess.1 point -

WQAI363 reacted to OffRoaderX for a topic
I was just using mine today and i was thinking how many people will love it, and many will not love it, very much.. I very much do not love mine because I use my HTs primarily when i'm adventuring/off-roading and I need something that I can see in the bright sunlight and that has quick/easy to use unambiguous controls.. This radio does not fill those needs. However people that love to tinker and use the radio from their couch to 'make contacts', talk on the local repeaters or learn new stuff/etc, will love it.1 point -

Compared to the DMR crap regularly blotting out GMRS channels for hours at a time, I would think that a few 1-second bursts per minute at ultrasonic frequencies would be a trivial concern!1 point

The electrical ground through the cable shield is sufficient. None of the magnetic NMO mounts require you to scrape to bare metal.1 point -
Has anyone bought the NEW Baofeng GRMS UV-5R?
JamesBrox reacted to DarrylLicht for a topic
RUT ROH -- Just noticed that when I plug my Baofeng UV-5R GRMS radio into Chirp it identifies as a Radioddity UV-5R? Is that expected? Or is this an indication I have a knock-off?1 point -
If you use an APRS cable ( Btech or other) you get much better signal transfer. Brief text and location data transfer are allowed on simplex. Check out andFLmsg works well too, more modes, forms etc. Works better too.1 point
