I bought these radios for the combination of voice and GPS functionality.  Without the GPS it's really just another radio.  Having said that, I'm loving this radio for motorized recreation.  For those of you that don't snowmobile in the mountains on public land, ( state, blm, Nat forest) there are groomed trails that will lead you into the play areas where, riding becomes a "free for all".  It is allowed to ride anywhere.  Keeping track of your riding buddies is a lot like herding cats.  Then someone gets stuck in a place where he cant be seen easily.  This radio is a very useful tool.  I can look at my phone and see him on the map showing direction and distance.  Priceless!
Here is an EXTREEM example of radio use in the Backcountry.

I actually do care about the rules. I care that we explain them accurately when asked and that we explain why we have the rules we have.
But I don’t like to see us whip them out as a scolding remark to someone who is just getting started and has just asked for help.

I use my UV-9Gs frequently.  They just work and they sound good.  Sure, my Wouxun KG-935G+ is a better radio, but it also cost a lot more.  Make up your own mind I say.

I always wondered how hailing frequencies are set such that alien civilizations, whom we have never before encountered, know to monitor.
Oh, well, for now, if I’m traveling I’ll just listen to channels 19 and 20 simplex, no tones.

I’m not sure if you are aware of this but on the main map page if you go to Edit User Profile you can select Weekly Repeater Digest and you’ll get an email every Monday on any changes to repeaters in your state. I just thought of this as I received mine this morning.

They are nothing but cheap Chinese junk!  Anyone that uses one is not as smart as I am!
...just wanted to get that out of the way right up front..
I own several different model BoofWhangs and most of them offer great bang for the buck.  Anyone that compares a $20-$50 Baofeng to a radio that costs much more (as done in this forum all the time) AND expects it to perform just as well is a fool and should be ignored.

Our little mountain town just got over 5 feet of snow in 3 days and most people in my small area are snowed in. We lost power for three days, got it back for 7 hours, and then lost it again for another 26 hours. During that time cell service was working. I spent one day with other neighbors trying to open up driveways and move some downed trees. Everyday I would leave the house to do get a vehicle unstuck or try to clear a path to the wood shed or start and stop the generator, etc. Instead of using cell phones to keep in touch with my wife we used our GMRS handhelds. I also used them to stay in contact with other family near by. I found it much easier to use the radio than a cell phone with gloves on and in heavy snow. My wife even said she was glad we have them. One neighbor was inquiring about the radios. We share a well so it would be nice for him to have one as today I needed him at his house while I got the well pump and system thawed and restarted after getting power back. Our radios may be a fun to have tool/gadget , but, they are a great tool to have when you need them.

One of the things that you’ll quickly learn, either by recommendation here or by use there,  is that power is highly overrated as a predictor of range.  A good receiver that has both sensitivity and selectivity and a good antenna are much much more important than getting an 8 watt output radio versus a 5 watt radio.

I have way too many radios, to include the BTECH gmrs pro and the wouxun KG935G. As I think others have noted, I can set them side by side both with Nagoya 771G antennas. The wouxun picks up way more traffic. The BTECH does work pretty well and I think the Bluetooth and easy program on the fly make it a worthwhile radio to own. If I really needed one radio I knew I could count on though, this would not be it. The wouxun is hands down the best gmrs I have.

I've been playing with this radio for a while and thinking it's a great idea very poorly executed.   The activities that I can think of, where this radio would shine are hunting, snowmobiling and possibly atv'ing.  The nearest thing to this is the Garmin Rino at $650 each.
I have been unable to figure out how to make the team's function work and the "ID Signaling" function is also fubar'd.  If you have more than 1 radio connected to the app on a device (phone or tablet) the app will change the ID to the same on all radios.
Then there is the map part of the app... Really btech?  Why did you even bother.  Where to start?  It's as bad as can be.
If anyone in se Idaho would like to do some field testing, please get in touch.  I am near Rexburg.

I have a theory that they wait until I purchase a certain radio and then wait a short time to release the new and improved "plus" model. It has happened too many times to be coincidence.

WRVU381 got a reaction from WRVX846 in BTech GMRS-Pro - How to Scan A Channel Group?
I just realized while double-checking the menus for my reply that you may have "Dual Watch" check box marked when you go to "Radio Settings" in the menu. If that's the case, the radio won't scan. It uses the second band as the "scanning" channel and the primary band stays put.

WRVU381 got a reaction from WRVX846 in BTech GMRS-Pro - How to Scan A Channel Group?
On mine, the top button on the side (just below the PTT button -- also the "up" channel button) to scanning. You hold it in for a couple seconds starts scanning the channel group. It shows "Scanning" on the screen where the second channel would be, if you were monitoring two channels.
The other way I get it to scan is to go into the menu on the device (bottom left green "hockey stick" button), scroll down to "Radio Settings," scroll down to second option (Scan), and make sure the box is checked. Should see "Scanning" on home screen when you exit out of the menu.
You can also do it through the app -- three bar menu button in app -> all the way at the bottom you'll see a "Scan" check box.
    Hope this helps!

    No..
Although many hams do slum on GMRS in many areas, the main use for GMRS is utilitarian communication - ie; when off-roading and in a group, hiking, traveling with multiple vehicles, etc.
Sadly, it sounds like in your area many of the rag-chewers have taken over.. But once you get out of reach of their basements, like out adventuring in the desert or mountains, all their noise goes away.
I run a repeater, partially run another repeater which is one of the largest/most used in Southern California, and run a group - not only am i not a ham, most in the group are not hams either.

I just received my GMRS Pro yesterday. It seems to be alright, so far. I do like being able to add channels quickly via the app, but do wish there was some way to add/edit them on a computer (even if it was via CHIRP).
My first of two gripes with it as of right now are that you can’t scan more than the 30 channels in your active group. I have a list of all GMRS channels plus some local businesses+HAM channels I like to scan/listen to, but now I’m being forced to narrow down the list to just a few. Maybe that’s good, maybe not. Right now, I don’t like it.

Second complaint is that when in scan mode and it detects activity, I *think* it starts scanning again the moment the transmission ends, instead of waiting a few seconds for a reply. That’s causing me to miss out on some activity/replies.
Maybe I’m wrong and both of these are completely possible. If that’s the case, please let me know.

Not a big fan. Was sold on it when I watched the notarubicon review. Bought one sight/review unseen. Got through about 3 minutes of the review and ordered one. IMHO, the radio is just OK as far as RX and TX. It has some nice features (bluetooth, texting, etc) but those (for ME anyway) don't overcome the poor radio performance. I even tried it with a 771G antenna, didn't improve it much at all.
I have also both the Wouxun KG-935G and KG-UV9G Pro. Both of the Wouxun radios transmit and receive clearer than the BTECH. My favorite is the KG-935G.
    Your mileage may vary...
