  2. Just for the heck of it I looked at Midland's website listing of the MXT275 and there is no mention of wide band capability anywhere. No mention in the specs or the manual. You would think they would tout that as an upgrade or feature in the latest version. Because radio dorks like to know this stuff. Maybe Midland is not targeting radio dorks?
  3. This is what I found: https://www.buytwowayradios.com/midland-mxt275.html Says under the Features list "Narrow Channel Bandwidth". Even one of the reviewers said it was narrow band only and that it can not be changed. That is the only one listed so don't know if there are more than one version available. I would think they would carry the latest one. The only one I saw that could be changed with software is the MXT400.
  4. From two minuets of searching it appears that it is narrow band only.
  5. Welcome!
  6. Oh Sorry about that.
  7. Here is a much better solution than relying on a belt clip. I have not found a better pouch. They make them for many radios. https://www.spectergear.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SG-1205
  8. Also FYI you need to log in on the Mygmrs map page. Being logged in here on the forum site is not the same.
  9. You have to be signed to your Mygmrs account to see the tones. I see 82.5 hz input tone and no output tone required.
  10. I just poked around on ebay for both P/N's but no luck. I have to agree with WRXP381.

Sshannon makes a good point. Your current set up should at least let you hear if there is much going on around you. Maybe just get the antenna up as high as you can with the stock cable.

As mentioned there may not always be traffic. I have my radio on for many hours a day and only here sporadic traffic. Depends where you are. Urban locations can have quite a bit and rural can be few and far between.

Be sure and learn about the right kind of antenna's and cable. Proper cable and keeping it short is important with GMRS.

Welcome! Also elevating your antenna as high as possible will help. As a new to radio person one of the best lessons to learn is that antenna's work best when they are in the clear. Radio waves in the UHF/VHF range (GMRS is UHF) are line of sight mostly. Thus the less obstacles in the way the better. If you can get it up over the roof of the near by buildings it will make a big difference. Lots of good folks here to help.
  15. He did say he moved the KG-S88G around and was able to get the repeater but just barley.
  16. Interesting. That is about what I would expect based on my experience also.
  17. Could just be the 500 ft difference it height of the antenna's causing that difference. That is one tall tower! Is it on flat ground or a hill?
  18. Here is some more info from a guy I trust: https://rumble.com/v3nhca7-the-wouxun-kg-935g-still-the-best-gmrs-ht.html
  19. Not that surprising. If you have line of sight 50 miles is possible, more even. The green circles and distance's listed are just estimates.
  20. The Monitor button is just a shortcut to zero squelch. It's easier than adjusting the squelch to off then having to turn it back up. It's just for a momentary check if there is any traffic on a channel no mater how weak it is.
  21. Have you looked at the map? There are several in the area. https://mygmrs.com/map/
  22. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
  23. Maybe this would be a better option for you. It's still a GMRS radio. https://bettersaferadio.com/wouxun-kg-uv9gx-gmrs-two-way-radio-shtf-scanner/
  24. Not for socializing. Keeping in touch with family and friends locally and as back up comms. Travel between cars, camping etc.
  25. Here is how to do a firmware update on the A36: https://rumble.com/v3xqueg-my-talkpod-a36-gets-a-firmware-update.html
