Sounds good!  I only have a handful of badges.  I should work on them.

I am heading to Rausch Creek on Friday and we are going to do a trip to Flagpole Knob in the George Washington National Forest on the 30th  Trying to get a couple runs in before the snow hits.

Rausch Creek, Is where we were planning to go. There are 5 Badge trails there. Enjoy the trails and be safe my friend.

I can tell you my buddy and I will be coming to Uwharrie at least a couple to a few times in 2024. We will do long weekends and camping. So we are in if we can make it work.

One of the reasons I bought GMRS was to have a backup when off road.  It sounds like folks do not monitor the channels like the CB world?  Because of the range I was told by others that GMRS would be a better choice then using my CB.  I have been trying to get someone to respond to let me know if my radio is transmitting.  To date no one has answered.  So if I don't know anyone with a radio then the odds of getting a response is small or none?

I got into GMRS for the same reasons. But I went to Youtube and learned how to set up repeaters around me and where I plan to travel. By setting up repeaters you can monitor channels and get more traffic to interact with or just listen to. I monotor 2 channels at a time on my radio and usually hear people off and on throughout the day.

I wheel. Have been doing it for 40+ years.

    I have a 2020 Gladiator on 40" tires and a 4.5" long-arm.

The channel varies depending on who I'm wheeling with. When I'm with FRS folks, we use 7, with GMRS folks, we use 15, 19 or 22, depending on what other radio traffic is happening.

I usually wheel at Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area, Rausch Creek, The Cove, Uwharrie, and random trails in the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson national forests. Looking to hot up Gultches and Winrock in the Spring.

What lift do you have on your Gladiator? I have Metal Cloak 3.5" on my Jeep. Keep me posted on the Gulches,Windrock & Uwharrie trips and maybe we can hook up for the ride.

Got me some Broncos. Have CB in the old and GMRS in the new. Doesn't seem to matter as no one else seems to ever have anything that works 😆. At least with GMRS you can toss 'em a walkie.

As for channels, CB4(4x4) is usually what I run, however technically you're supposed to run whatever is posted on the logging roads, which was big part of my hesitation to switch to GMRS.

Man! I am loving the old Bronco! I like GMRS for the fact that I keep a few walkies in my Jeep ready to go so that i can hand them to anyone who don't have a radio. Appreciate the reply.

Yes the KG-1000G is more but it is definitely worth the extra if you are wanting a 50 watt mobile. We have been testing out our GMRS repeater for the last few days with different mobiles and HT's (hand held). The Wouxun mobiles and HT radios so far have done the best over a wide range of distances and also have the best sound on transmit and receive.

I'm in mid Missouri so we have a few rolling hills and valleys along with forested areas to deal with. I can easily talk on the repeater with my KG-935G+ inside or outside my house at 21.5 miles away from the repeater tower. Granted the repeater antennas are way up around 400 feet or so. Guys were getting are 18-20 miles range with HT's inside their vehicles.

I just got done texting my KG-XS20G with a Comet 2X4SR antenna on my Honda Pioneer 500 out in the driveway. Again no problems reaching the repeater on 20 watts from 21.5 miles away.

Go with what fits your budget and also what will work best for you. The 1000G will help get through thick trees and do better in low spots but you stil won't go wrong with the XS20G

Appreciate the advice. I am in no rush. So we will see what the budget is when I get there.

The XS20G is just about perfect for use in a side by side where it is exposed to dust and water. We get a mix of dust and rain here in Missouri.

I am debating between the XS 20 or the 1000 for my Jeep. I want the 50w power but I want the XS20 cost. Lol

Right now I am using the Kg-935t HT and it way our performs the cheaper HT's I had before.

I have a couple of drones I use for hanging antennas from trees, recording offroad videos, scouting areas to put up my portable gear when in the field, and occasionally just for the sake of flying.  I got really bored yesterday and ended up with a fun gag reel I wanted to share.

Anyone else here use drones and find a way to incorporate then into other hobbies?  How do you use your drone?  Anyone a Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot?  If so, what are you using your cert for?  Work? Fun? Both?

I really want to get a drone but all my Jeep upgrades are coming first.

I've been known to get my Jeep dirty from time to time

    • 2006 LJ Rubicon / 2012 NotARubicon
    • Ch16 or Ch19, open, simplex.  Also scan/monitor all channels so I can rescue Toyota's in distress
    • Mottino Wash, Marble Canyon, John Bull, Doran/Odessa (Calico), anywhere in Old Dale

Love it! Monitor channels so you can rescue Yota's.

    I have 2017 Rubicon Recon

Usually use channel 16 unless super busy and we will use less used channel.

Only "real" trail so far is Uwharrie in NC. Plan to hit Gulches, Windrock, and 5 BOH trails in Penn this coming

    year.

By the way. Love the videos. And thank you for inspiring me to get into GMRS.

I have a TidRadio TD-H8 Handheld GMRS radio and recently found my local GMRS Repeaters. My problem is that I can hear people talking on the repeaters but cannot transmit where they respond. I have the TX CTCSS or DCS and the RX CTCSS or DCS set and I am transmitting at 5 watts so I am not sure what it is. When I try to beep in, I don't hear a response from the repeater either.  I also have the right Frequency and yes, the radio is on. I am new to GMRS, so I wonder if I am missing something or doing something wrong. Thank you in advance.

When I first tried to set up my radio ( I am new) I was setting the tone for both R and T. I found out it only needed to be set for T (transmit) One I turned off or erased the R (receive) I was able to talk. Hope this helps.

  11. I am new to GMRS and getting into it. I bought a couple handhelds for off-roading and travel. I am using TID H5. I have tried repeatedly to key up from home to test radios and I get no response. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I live in Campobello area of SC. 1 mile from I26 and 30min South of Asheville NC
