  1. Gotcha ! I'm not one of those Dusty old Curmudgeon guys ! ... Maybe Dusty fits tho...
  2. Some operators are Simply Not content with Following the Rules, and are intent on pushing the envelope! If you like the Linking aspect of repeaters, then simply take the test, receive your Amateur Radio License and have fun ! There are Only 8 Pairs available, hence Not enough bandwidth to support Linking and Disrespectful to users on other pairs. I hold licenses in Both services, and see the Benefits of Both.
  3. TID H-8 and a XTS2500 and a newly bought Moto Xpr6550
  4. There's guys yakking everyday on and off about a variety of topics on ch.8 north of me. Sometimes I'll ID and join in, but I'm more of a lurker than a talker.
  5. This is happening here in my area ,as well. I think AI is a rabbit hole not worth going down, as it's too tempting for the wrong people to use it in the WRONG ways.
  6. IF I was a student, you'd never know I had one, due to a different tactic, not that I'd be better than other students, but I'd be more private about it.
  7. Most of the users in my area don't seem to be Talkers, but mostly lurkers. I throw out Both my calls a few times a day, and locals respond but rarely anyone new. I hear several ops in the wisconsin , Indiana area but nobody in mine. As far as I know, there's only 4 licensed gmrs ops in my town.
  8. How many of the students use "Decoy phones" ? No subscriber data or sim ? Several of our students in my area stick their decoys in those bags, and keep their op devices hid and on vibrate or off, and just check them in the bathrooms.
  9. NO they haven't. Shame on you.
  10. And the TID H-8 Second Gen models ?
  11. Correct; The TID H8 has no audio/tx provisions for using Bluetooth, unfortunately.
  12. I see it, I buy it. What's a wife ?
  13. You went to the Wrong band camp !
  14. Hi ! Usually prefer my Ftm 7250, or my AT-578, depends on the mood I guess with a Comet CA-2x4SRJ at 50'
  15. FT991A, Ftm 7250, FT 70D, FT 65R, FT 4X, Anytone 578 pro, AT-878UVII, Rfinder B1+, AT-5888UVIII, TYT TH-350, Motorola Xts 2500, Kenwood TK805D, Kenwood TK705DH, and crap in the closet I have no room for that will probably end up at a hamfest. 73, Happy Friday

Has anyone tried tuning the Comet CA 2x4 SR Dual band antenna for use on Gmrs ?? It's advertised with a bandwidth of 20mhz. so theoretically it should work. Just looking for anyone's results ?
  17. Good point ! I didn't think about inverting the dcs tones.
  18. True, but it seems like most people who are rude and hell bent on trolling your coms, isn't going to know about that method. At least it's worked so far.
  19. No, I picked 88.8 on my TK805 and my 353, because they are Non standard tones I can set in both of those radios, that the china mart radios can"t find the tones for, as a way to weed out interference. With Encode and decode selected, it's pretty much private comms.
  20. Do the TID H3's or H8's program easier, using Bluetooth ?? I haven't bought one yet, but IF I do I'll prob use Bluetooth.
  21. TK 353 I meant. Too many radios ...Grrrr.
  22. I have a old tk833 trunked talkie, programmed for conventional on a tone of 88.8, and beofeng's Cant find the tone on scan. the China radios can only scan for tones in their firmware, and Odd tones won't show up.
  23. True, but it only takes One person to be close to you who scanning for tones when you transmit on your Input to your machine, then they only need the Output tone. Non standard tones Cant be scanned, because they don't fall in the list of available subtones available.
  24. That's True and I guess go's along with the adage, Loose lips sink ships. I was just thinking that the "simpler minds" might not figure that tactic out and help keep Repeater Security. Someone mentioned Split tones which is a good idea too.
  25. Hi, I'm a Recycled Noob. Old Call expired, so I decided to license again. Just a suggestion, but has anyone experimented with Non-standard PL tones ?? Such as 71.3 ? Some of the older Kenwood gear will let you program "odds" or non standard tones for repeater use. TK-805's will do this. All the Newer china toys that can scan for tones, Can't scan for Non standard tones, essentially keeping your tone private{er} . In fact, I haven't found Any of the newer toys that can scan for Odd tones.
