    We all have done that.

I can't believe I missed that!  That was what I searched for before posting this, thank you!

Didn’t think of the water seal.

is it hard plastic or soft like rubber?

Looks like a spacer/water seal insert.

Some radios need a spacer to sit correctly.  Some do not.  I’d say compare the new antenna to the original one and see if the new one is longer in the connector area.  After that is going to be trial and error.

@offroadkid Welcome to GMRS and glad you got it working. Read this to get a better understanding of the chirp columns. It can be a little confusing at first but you will get the hang of it.

I just transmitted to see if anyone can hear me and I got 4 replies with "crystal clear!"

We are on top of a hill at 1531' elevation and I have a Baofeng UV-5G Plus with a longer antenna.

Correct. Once you put that in and upload  to your radio.. it should be able to trigger the repeater - as long as you are in range and have good ilne of sight to it... probably not indoors if it is an HT you are using

Oh, so that's probably the 229.1 then?
Okay, here is what I have now.  I think (with your help) I got it correct?!

one of the options on the pulldown should match your wanted tone... they are standardized

You should also be able to set it to HIGH instead of medium power, unless you have it set to medium for a specific reason
    Yes,
if you want the CTCSS on BOTH transmit and receive you set the Tone MODE to TSQL and enter the CTCSS in "Tone Squelch"

if you only want it on transmit to hit the repeater and leave receive as "open" then set Tone Mode to TONE and enter the CTCSS in "Tone" column

Okay, great!  Is there a way to add CTCSS 229.1 using CHIRP?

Yes "30" is the repeater channel for 462.725... "22" is just the simplex channel for that frequency.
add your CTCSS 229.1 tone to you channel "30" and you should be able to hit the repeater if you have a good line of sight to it and in range.

Good afternoon from WSCJ959 in Shingle Springs!
Every Tuesday night my local group has a Safety Net with roll call and people can ask questions about their radios.  I'm new to GMRS and can tune-in on Tuesday nights but the last two nights I tried to check-in, I don't think people are hearing me.
    Oak Hill GMRS Repeater (Channel 22R - 462.725 / 467.725 - CTCSS 229.1)
I am using channel 22 but today I was thinking maybe I need to be on channel 30 on my radio which is marked as a repeater channel and has an +5 offset, (I think that is correct)?
I really need help with tones and other settings.  The group email says CTCSS 229.1
Can someone confirm that I should be using channel 30 instead?  I'm including a screenshot of my CHIRP software with some of the download channels of my radio.

Back to my previous point about learning the radio: This is a super neat & useful feature for exactly this situation.

Tones. Your buddy has a time set.  Get him out of those FRS radios and into something better and easier to use

Number 4 should be it. I just looked up the manual and it does not list the tones. Here is what it says. "Selecting the Interference Eliminator Code
Interference Eliminator Codes help minimize interference by
blocking transmissions from unknown sources. Your radio has 121
Interference Eliminator Codes. Codes 1 – 38 are the standard analog
codes that appear on other FRS/GMRS radios. Codes 39 – 121 are
additional digital codes added for superior interference protection.
0 is the off position, no analog or digital codes are enabled.
    And "
Note: You must set the Interference Eliminator Code to 0 on a radio
that uses Interference Eliminator Codes to communicate with radios
that do not have Interference Eliminator Codes. Select 0 for “no
tone, no code” and OFF will flash on your radio’s display.
    Maybe this will help.

Another +1 on tones. If he has a privacy 'code' or 'tone' set up, his radios will be listening for that tone from a transmitting radio. If it doesn't receive it, his radios won't open the speaker (ok that's not really how it works, but that's the effect) and play the transmission. He can either disable the privacy code on that channel, or get what code / tone he's using and cross reference that for your radio.
OR: GIven that it's a 5G+, have him hold down his PTT button, and hit the green button on yours. IIRC that should automatically scan the channel and tones.
But yes your UV-5G+ CAN talk to any FRS or GMRS radio. They just need to be configured correctly

    Yup, probably privacy tone 4.
If you don't want to do the tone scan function (tho it's useful to know how to use it regardless), I'd try setting yours up with Transmit tone 74.4

Just looked up those Motorola's. They call them "Interference Eliminator Codes" The manual should list what they are so you can find a match.

He probably has a "privacy" tone set on moto's that you do not on UV5G.
