When you made contact was the antenna folded or extended?
-
Where can you find those Tactical Antennas?

specific type or radio
Do you have the brand names of the radios that does that? I would appreciated if you can list the radios

I also had someone have a DTMF code setup as a roger beep and coincidentally happened to be the same combination I made up to stun the repeater. I had to drive to the repeater site to reset it on the panel.
Other question will the MDC tones on some of the HT also interfere with the repeaters?

some repeaters around Los Angeles are a free-for-all jungle.
I can name a few, but i'm in no mood to start a flame war on here.

rated at 8watts
Have you put a Watt meter to the Radio and have it confirmed that it transmitting 8 Watts? They say it transmit 8 watts so you be suckered into buying the radio and comes to find out it doesn't transmit the 8 watts it claims to.

melodious tone at the end of a transmission
Does this includes the MDC tones that some of these radios have?

Immediate family members are the licensee's spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Since they are using your callsign you will be responsible for their action on the airwaves. If they violate the rule, you're the one the FCC comes after since it's your callsign their using. (Just as a reminder)

it looks like it's easy to expand Rx/TX frequencies so I can do GMRS/MURS on it
I am assuming this is a dual band radio? The reason I ask is that MURS is on the VHF side of the spectrum and GMRS is on the UHF side.

And no he wasn't on simplex either

I'm not going to start a debating war here but I do here Roger beeps on GMRS band. I was actually talking to someone on the repeater side of the band today and I heard the tone when he unkeyed.

I even got my Roger Beep set
You might want to be careful on using Roger beep on the GMRS band not all repeater owners are fond of roger beeps being used on their machine

The worse part is that the guys on Dstar had audio so hot that even turning my radio down to where I could barely hear them did no good. It still sounded like they were screaming
Can you imagine that happening on the GMRS band you most likely fry the repeaters while you're at it.

But no one uses 6m or 1.25m (220MHz) around here
The only reason 220MHz is not used here is because of Military bases radar system here in California 220MHz is totally dead here

Personally, I say we remove FRS completely out of GMRS frequencies
This wouldn't been an issue if the FCC knew what they were doing to GMRS by combining the 2 services together and see what a mess it caused, and now they want to put DMR on GMRS oh hell no!!!
