  1. Look at the Queen of GMRS really on point today. This thread has some good back and forth.
  2. I have the TIDRadio TD-H3 (a pair) and the Wouxun KG-935G Plus. The H3s are dirty as all hell and can often be heard over police and fire frequencies in my city. The Wouxun is very well-built, solid feeling, has a decent sounding speaker, the control knobs feel nice and tolerant, and the signal + audio reports I get for it are always good and people often ask me what I am using and when I tell them, they are shocked while claiming they never thought it would be a Wouxun CCR. That is my experience.
  3. Same. It performs pretty well for me and I like having it. I get better range with it than I do with any stick antenna.
  4. Congrats! Yes, it is fun. Welcome to the hobby.
  5. Yes. Some of them desire it.
  6. This has been happening for a few days on my end. If it is a DDoS attack, it's likely looking for weaknesses in the system. Buffer overflows can reveal a lot of openings in a server if it isn't up to snuff. But the sad h.A.m. cartels could also be a source, as you say, or even this rogue scraperbot. I have made lots of scrapers for different reasons and none has ever gone rogue on me. Then again, maybe I was just careful. Who knows? My Source: 25+ years of IT security and systems management with coding in assembly, basic, rust, c/c++ experience under Windows/Windows NT since 3.1 and Linux since 1996 when it was just a hobby
  7. A little strange that someone is attacking this site. It has to be someone looking for holes in security and with any luck, they aren't going to find anything. I've been having trouble with slow response times but have not experienced any errors and I would like to share the sentiments with the thank you! I enjoy this site and feel it's a shame that someone has a hair across their backside to the point they want to DDoS it.
  8. Reasonable and sound advice.
  9. True. My point was more to the fact that tapping a physical key, if you have one, is necessary. My physical practice key feels very different from a touch screen.
  10. That may actually be a lot of fun. Rotary dial was annoying but once you figured out that you could dial numbers by rapidly tapping the hook switch it sort of became more interesting at least.
  11. Completely agree on using an actual, physical key. The apps will teach you the tones and how to identify them but you WILL need to practice on a physical key at some point.
  12. Been using that app for awhile now. Good recommend for sure!
  13. I don't see how you could have. You were succinct in your replies and patiently helpful, as always. He is clearly just new to this and confused like some people get. Wait until he wants to advance and gets his first DMR radio, hehehe.
  14. What ended up being the problem with the distortion?
  15. You can pay whatever you like to post less so long as it's at least $5,000 USD. I have a PO Box and I accept only cash.
  16. I believe there is a limit on how many daily reactions you get as a non premium member as far as I know. Premium members do not have the restriction and I often react to a lot of posts when I am reading around here. At least I somehow remember reading that.
  17. Ah... the good kind of comms!
  18. I just grabbed some popcorn. Please tell us more.
  19. It's got a really, really good APS-C imaging sensor in it. Sony makes good imaging sensors. To be honest... the price is reasonable.
  20. Refractor problems, amirite?
  21. I've been looking up so long my neck hurts. Jack Horkheimer always reminded me to keep looking up and I still do. He was truly a loss in the world of planetariums and space in general. I do not currently own a telescope but will be getting another sometime after January when we are done moving. I am looking at some middle upper end Celestron models with tracking mounts as I am an amateur photog and would love to try and get some nice DSO images. Anyway, this is what I have been eyeballing for a few months now: https://www.celestron.com/products/cpc-1100-gps-xlt-computerized-telescope
  22. I use a SignalStick as well as the telescoping Smiley. These both blow the Nagoya models out of the water for me, especially indoors. I have the 771G. Rarely use it now.
  23. People laugh at this, but they were unimpressive at best for me. The ducky that came with my radios performs better.
  24. Life experience says otherwise. Yes, my friends, the close ones, insult me and I insult them. It's a bonding thing. But people I have never met have not been so kind in recent years for whatever reason they have. Their mistake... I would literally give a person the shirt off my back if they needed it badly enough.
  25. My entire point ended with the wink, hehe... on purpose. No matter what we do in this type of hobby, the terms are always insults. Just like ham started as an insult. Cheers everyone!
