Randy's antenna is between 0' and 45,000' at or above sea level. This is why he gets to look down on we lowly peasants from his ivory tower on that glowing hillside somewhere between Seattle and Baja.

I think it just comes out the other way. But full disclosure — I am a member of RR. What I really refer to is the people on there who see a forum post marked HALP MEH! and they chime in with "do your own research" instead of just helping a new amateur. It's like with Linux forums... mostly unhelpful jerks who pretend that they were born with what they know so others shouldn't ask for help if they weren't
-
Fun fact: no one on the RR forums has an anus.

As if Randy needs an evil alternate account. As much as I love Randy and sometimes making him reply on YT videos by making absolutely ridiculous statements (it's a hobby), he certainly doesn't need an evil alt. Randy is just evil enough to get by.

Going to agree with Steve on this. Given everything other reply from OP it seems as though either the connector didn't go as well as thought (the multimeter test doesn't show as much as a VNA does) or something is wrong with the coax. Age of the coax? I may have missed this. How long has it been outside? Have you sealed the connectors against the weather? Almost sounds like the connectors are the source, but that is just from antenna building experience as when all else fails, it's almost always the connector.

Look at the Queen of GMRS really on point today. This thread has some good back and forth.

I have the TIDRadio TD-H3 (a pair) and the Wouxun KG-935G Plus. The H3s are dirty as all hell and can often be heard over police and fire frequencies in my city. The Wouxun is very well-built, solid feeling, has a decent sounding speaker, the control knobs feel nice and tolerant, and the signal + audio reports I get for it are always good and people often ask me what I am using and when I tell them, they are shocked while claiming they never thought it would be a Wouxun CCR. That is my experience.

Same. It performs pretty well for me and I like having it. I get better range with it than I do with any stick antenna.

Well.... I did it.... passed my Tech a month ago

Congrats! Yes, it is fun. Welcome to the hobby. -
Yes. Some of them desire it.

This has been happening for a few days on my end. If it is a DDoS attack, it's likely looking for weaknesses in the system. Buffer overflows can reveal a lot of openings in a server if it isn't up to snuff. But the sad h.A.m. cartels could also be a source, as you say, or even this rogue scraperbot. I have made lots of scrapers for different reasons and none has ever gone rogue on me. Then again, maybe I was just careful. Who knows? My Source: 25+ years of IT security and systems management with coding in assembly, basic, rust, c/c++ experience under Windows/Windows NT since 3.1 and Linux since 1996 when it was just a hobby

A little strange that someone is attacking this site. It has to be someone looking for holes in security and with any luck, they aren't going to find anything. I've been having trouble with slow response times but have not experienced any errors and I would like to share the sentiments with the thank you! I enjoy this site and feel it's a shame that someone has a hair across their backside to the point they want to DDoS it.

Tidradio TD-H8 may no longer be worth buying

Reasonable and sound advice. -
True. My point was more to the fact that tapping a physical key, if you have one, is necessary. My physical practice key feels very different from a touch screen.
-
That may actually be a lot of fun. Rotary dial was annoying but once you figured out that you could dial numbers by rapidly tapping the hook switch it sort of became more interesting at least.
-
Completely agree on using an actual, physical key. The apps will teach you the tones and how to identify them but you WILL need to practice on a physical key at some point.
-
Been using that app for awhile now. Good recommend for sure!
-
I don't see how you could have. You were succinct in your replies and patiently helpful, as always. He is clearly just new to this and confused like some people get. Wait until he wants to advance and gets his first DMR radio, hehehe.

What ended up being the problem with the distortion?

You can pay whatever you like to post less so long as it's at least $5,000 USD. I have a PO Box and I accept only cash.

I believe there is a limit on how many daily reactions you get as a non premium member as far as I know. Premium members do not have the restriction and I often react to a lot of posts when I am reading around here. At least I somehow remember reading that.

The Importance of Amateur Radio in Communication
RayDiddio replied to louie535's topic in General Discussion
Ah... the good kind of comms! -
It's got a really, really good APS-C imaging sensor in it. Sony makes good imaging sensors. To be honest... the price is reasonable.

Refractor problems, amirite?
