Since VHF low has been freed up from TV broadcast, I had hoped the FCC would get aggressive and force some movement. Even if they did there would be little to no consideration for GMRS/FRS/CB expansion. Only commercial use. wonder what they are going to do with 54mhz to 88mhz?

These radios "Field programmable" are dangerous in the wrong hands. Way to easy to change freq. and accidentally key up on restricted frequencies. This may seem innocuous, but could have disastrous ramifications if it interferes with emergency services, causing death. I can not stress how easy it is to cause this type of interference with this "wrong type radio on GMRS",

that would not inconvenience them, as they are using simplex on the input freq. their illegal conversation will carry on unimpeded. Turning off the repeater only inconveniences legal repeater users and operators.

Same thing happening here in Fort Lauderdale. there is a maritime document spreading through the industry, that list 467, repeater inputs as safe to use in USA ports.

If you run a linux PC, Chirp is an available app through the PPA repository, as well as some software defined radio stuff.. I have not seen many android apps. but there could be some or you could write an app yourself. android phones have quite a few sensors and GPS, so there are many radio related apps that I can think of. I think some people run repeater controllers with Pi devices running android or a Linux distro, so an app could be written to access that Pi device and make changes to parameters and or toggle TX and transcode audio.

Yes we had this happen here in South FL on our freq. 600, I recorded the comm's and managed to get the name and e-mail of a local coordinate. I e-mailed him a copy of the FCC charter and notified him of the fines and penalties for such illegal operation. He stopped communicating with the party immediately, and the rest stopped within a few hours. I agree this needs more attention, having a high power output on our input is catastrophic to even basic comm's.

I thought the Tera was only 2 watts? Either way the radios advertised as 4 are only really 2 watts anyway.

Most quality radios are offset capable, However for GMRS you might want to consider a radio radio is part95 certified and offset capable.

Never had a problem, never even had to pull them out for inspection. this included HT's, antennas, headphones and scanners. I have even watched the screen when the bag crosses, looks fishy to me, but they never notice. Now my vape pen, that they want to inspect. lol

lol, yes it is. and yes you can, keep in mind that an inline connection is better than a barrel connection, so when you chose your more flexible segment of coax. chose your connectors accordingly M to F not M to M requiring a female barrel connector. M to F is a single connection, wile a M to M with a barrel is two connections, and greater loss.

Considering the FCC accepts audio recordings, when making a compliant of interference or illegal operation. We have used audio recordings of illegal operation to obtain information on the individuals involved. A major convenience to review than to sit and listen the whole day.

In theory, yes, but in addition to using the travel tone they are also operating in a non compliant mode. simplex on the repeater input frequency. To make an announcement to said illegal operators, requires shutting down the repeater and attaching mobile radio to the antenna and TX'ing on 467 or reversing the duplexor and running the repeater in reverse. I have made several announcements using 25 watt's. no response. So we have disabled the travel tone indefinitely.

Our BridgeCom has 24 selectable tones, of course that depends on how you set it up. Unfortunately we are unable to operate as ORI due to illegal operators using the travel tone, in our area.

You can use a dual band antenna if your running a base station, but if you run a repeater, you should consider separate antennas, as you would have to be very careful. I don't do much VHF, but I do have a workman UV200 in storage. for the repeater we have also run the Comet 712. These fiber glass antennas flex a lot in gale force winds, need additional sealant or heat shrink around middle. If you are single story, get yourself a 20' section of pole 2" pole and a house bracket, some even have the ability to tilt out for service. you can mount another 10' to that for about 30' without spending too much.

Yes many repeaters have a hang time. a period of a second or two that the carrier is still open after you activate the repeater. There are other ways as well, if you use a scanner or another radio, make sure that the TX and the RX/scanner radio are far enough away to prevent co channel interference. good luck

So did the original V1's actually put out more power? has anyone done a side by side? Could a firmware upgrade, unknowingly change your power output?

Correct, have you ever run it full power direct from battery? I was afraid to change the setting. either way if you did 40 or 50 watts and moderate use would likely require a larger house battery, maybe two 6 volts in series. Don't get me wrong, I love the BCR repeater, I just immediately thought of the low voltage.
