I’ve never noticed any difference in brand of 771 antenna. I would like to say your stated your talking to some one 25miles away through a repeater. You’re gonna have to learn it doesn’t matter how far away the other peeps on is. Your joy actually talking to them. Your talking and listening to the repeater so it only matters where the repeater is not the other person.

What you believe has no bearing on reality. In reality rag chew is not what gmrs is for. It is for communication while doing an activity. Gmrs is not the activity like ham is. Ham is the activity gmrs is a tool to use while doing something. Rag chew on ham or chat rooms. You can meet people on chat rooms.

Comparing PTT button characteristics of 6 HTs
Socalgmrs replied to WRNU354's question in Technical Discussion
I’m sorry but this is just…. I dont even know… I waste of time? A solution looking for a problem? I’m blown away at the pointlessness of this test. I’m pretty sure no one ever cared before this post about ptt buttons. This site is usually totally out of hand with useless endless comparisons but this takes it to a whooooole new level of “so what”. Maybe the queen (jester) randalpho can start testing ptt buttons in addition to all the other useless things she tests -
This whole post is so stupid.

TD-H3 GMRS observation: transmit issue with/without privacy code
Socalgmrs replied to Imply4907's question in Technical Discussion
A strange issue with an h3? No really? That neeevvveeer happens! Why any one would buy a tid radio is beyond me -
GMRS-RPT50: New BTECH 50 Watt Repeater Released
Socalgmrs replied to rdunajewski's topic in myGMRS.com
I would imagine this is still a big giant pile of garbage. Espewheb you can get a good Motorola for less then 1/3 the price. -
Why? I’ve had litterally 100s of radios of all types over 20 years never once ever have I ever updated firmware. Most people I see that try and do it ruin the radio. I mean really what’s the point. It’s not going to change the amount of “channels” or frequencies you have. Why bother just use the radio. Get out into the world and do stuff.

Dallas, TX - can’t get a radio check but hear everybody
Socalgmrs replied to WSHE504's topic in General Discussion
Are you close enough? Do you have line of sight? Tones of coarse as well -
Umm. Mine just sit in the charge cradles until I go to use them. I do t get it. Seams like a solution looming for a problem.

Wiring to the battery is always better but this sounds like an issue with the power adaptor not always being hot. Many power ports and cig lighters turn off when the key is turned off. Have you actually measured your battery or the port with a meter?
-
You can always look at the map display. The only reason you need to sign in is to request permissions or to see public tones. If you hit the carrot at the top right it will say map It will have its own sign in once you’re on the map page. Same credentials just different page

In my experience all the 771 antenna work pretty will and are cheap to replace. About 40ish miles for me. The slim duck costs more then my radios but does work a little better

Chirp is not good according to the people on here. It’s like a baufeng radio, it’s just no good. It works perfectly fine but is free so people hate it. You’re gonna have to upgrade to rt systems and buy a Wouxon. Whoa ocean radios are so clean if they had buts you could eat off of them. The are so advanced they receive even a 2w signal from 1000moles away since they have super duty receivers not some junk chip set. You have 1,000,000 pre programmed frequencies for shtf times. People on here say they are the best ht radios you can possibly get plus they have like 100 different antennas you can buy to try and get an extra 20’ transmit distance. They cost 3-4xs as much as an equivalent radio that works just as good or better and uses chirp but then you won’t fit in here with this group on this site. in the end all, and I mean all, gmrs ht radios work just as good and it’s up to you and only you to know what features you want to spend your money on as well as how much money you want to (waste) I mean spend.

Can't get FRS walkie to communicate with GMRS walkie
Socalgmrs replied to Papa2118's topic in General Discussion
If separating then doesn’t help some FRS radios have tones set even on 0, zero, off, may need to figure out that time and set your other radios to that tone. -
I do not find this to be true at all. An “unlocked uv5r and a locked uv5 gmrs version programs EXACTLY the same. Hook them up to chirp and hit download. Takes less than 2min to do either version. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Motorola, waxon, boofwang, ect. Just hook them up to the computer and hit download to radio. Ham radios are no different in any way then gmrs radios.

Some times stuff happens when you move antennas. I’d just toss it and get a new one for the car.

Best way to run a coax cable through a car window or sunroof
Socalgmrs replied to WSHA485's question in Technical Discussion
The is not good for a cable. Doing it correctly is the correct way to do it. This is not the correct way to do it. -

Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus current draw with a couple of surprises
Socalgmrs replied to WRNU354's question in Technical Discussion
Wow amazing. So glad you did this. Now I have more info that is totally useless and is not going to be accurate in a real world experience. Hot, cold, charge state, humidity….. too many variables to matter. -
That would be the only way to really find out what’s going on. Asking random strangers from all over the country probably won’t net very good results.
-
Have you contacted the repeater owner?
-
Just get a good gps unit. These radios are not good at radioing and they are not good at gpsing and they are not good at dataing. These are the gimmicks that get people to buy them.
-
I would steer clear of woxoun just as much as midland. For 1/3 the money you can get 2xs the radio. Midland, rugged, woxoun all over priced junk. I’d say grab 4 good quality gmrs radios for $100 and have a good time.
-
Wow so again I ask why any one would ever buy a midland. 2-3Xs the price for a radio that doesn’t work out of the box. Has programming and software issues. Why, why, why. I’ve never paid any where near the money a midland cost, I use all my radios literally every day in all types of conditions, 20deg snow, sleet rain hail, 120deg, dust storms….. I’ve never not once ever done a firmware update and they have all worked right out of the box and still work like brand new. Again why? Takes 5min to hook up to chirp, rt systems or Motorola cps and I’m in business.
