  1. I run a gmrs comet712efc works great in gmrs and a duel band comet 6nc and a duel band comet 9nc. Both work just fine in gmrs
  2. Yup battery was low. Did you charge it? I run 15 uv9 radios and they die every day. I’m have not had one problem with any of them in many years. Even the ones the get left out in the snow or 120deg days.
  3. Gosh I hate these whoa ocean radios. It’s 100xs easier to program in a computer. I’d try that.
  4. I totally disagree that gmrs is not a good service for emergencies for a small community. Radios are cheap range is good and set up is super simple and 1 cheap license is needed for a whole family. It works out extremely well here where I live. Our valley is about 60 miles wide and about 100miles long and 1 repeater covers most of it and another one covers the rest. Then we have a bunch of neighborhood repeaters that keep smaller areas in contact. The cost of an ok repeater with a great antenna can be offset by having every donate a few bucks. Heck you can even get a professional Motorola repeater I already set up on eBay for around $300 add coax and an antenna and as long as you have good height yiur going to cover more then enough ground.
  5. What does the local code say? What does your insurance say? What does the maker of the equipment say? I’d stick with that instead of opinions of these guys. If something happens and insurance won’t pay or the city/county finds you at fault for burning down your neighbors house or causing a wild fire you’re gonna wish you asked the right people.
  6. Many many things can cause this. Might not be digital at all. Might be some one doing it for kicks because hey dont like the repeater. Might be a cheap repeater having a melt down. Might be other interference. Might be aliens? Don’t know but it’s part of radio for sure. I hear it on all gmrs and Murs frequencies at one time/place or another. It’s not just a gmrs repeater issue.
  7. Awsome. This is a big part of the ham hobby. Have fun and make those world wide contacts.
  8. Are you programming on a computer it’s 1000xs easier. It’s only 2 in to the repeater and out from the repeater. This is honestly the same question asked 10xs. Week. It’s really not this difficult to do. We do t need to know the exact tones just put them in tx and rx. Some lazy people will chime in and say you do t even need the rx. If you can program tx you can program rx. It’s exactly the same. I would however recommend you reach out the the repeater club. After all that’s what a club should be for.
  9. Lm400 is best bang for the buck unless you have a whole bunch of money. I run 50w radio 40’ of lm400 and a comet 9nc that was upgraded from a 712efc. Crystal clear 60miles from the high desert of California to Huntington beach and 170miles to Las Vegas the next state over.
  10. So In reality it is no different than any other radio and it costs 2-4Xs as much and actually has issues that other radios don’t have. And as far as set up compared to a ham radio? What does that even mean? with this radio you select a “channel”(named frequency) and talk and if you need to add tones and off set you do that as well. With a ham radio you select a “frequency” and add tones and off set. It’s exactly the same as using, setting up, and programming a ham radio. I’ve used both and a it really is the same and as for getting wires through the fire wall it’s again exact the same as any other car. Find a spot drill hole for wires add proper grommet. I’ve done many in all year fusions. A family member even has one so I work on it all the time. I wish people that made reviews did actual research and had actual facts before making comments. Geesh
  11. Well that’s what gmrs is supposed to be but the people that can’t or won’t get a ham ticket try to make it ham light and call it a “hobby” and rag chew all day about antennas and such. Im not far from KOH and been wheelin there for 30years.
  12. If you have set ups repeater your radios will never communicate with each other. They will need to transmit to the repeater and the repeater will transmit back out. Radios on. Handles set up to talk to repeaters do not talk to eachother. So are you close enough to the repeater to use it?
  13. Let’s not open this can of worms again. Putting gmrs on the internet is not allowed. It never was, it isn’t now and I hope it never will be. Any one that still is linking repeaters or putting gmrs on the web is in violation You want that go to ham. Gmrs is for having radio while doing an activity, hunting, biking, going to the park, hiking, off roading, farming, road tripping, neighborhood watch…. The list goes on. Zello does not fit into that plan in anyway shape or form. I highly suggest you read the rules you promised to abide by when you got your license. You already told the fcc you read and understood them, you might as well actually read them.
  14. Welcome. And what activities do you and your friends or family do to need gmrs communication? iE hunt, fish, hike, off road, go to the park (more FRS)……. I’m always curious if people are using it for its purpose or just as ham lite.
  15. I got a marine buddy that build a great antenna from a coat hanger and it’s hanging in his attic. Does about 60 miles from a 40w base unit. I personally don’t have the time to mess with such things.
  16. I don’t think Midland radios are very good. totally agree. Cheap, over priced, bad quality, gimmicky, more mo why is spent on advertising than on the radios. They do. It work very well at all
  17. 1day or 2 weeks? Some less some more. Just gotta be patient
  18. Just put it in both. It’s the correct grown up why to do it. That way you won’t have to hear other traffic and be confused. You also won’t have to go back and do it right later
  19. It’s really a simple process and you do not need to download the files from here just look up local repeaters and program them. Chirp has starter files you can down load for the basic gmrs channels then go from there.
  20. An issue with radioddity? Really? That NEVER happens! When will people learn.
  21. Don’t really care about others mental well being. Plus what about my mental well being. You dont care about that. What I care about is how crowded the gmrs frequencies are and not being used for what it’s meant to be used for. Every one with a gmrs license agreed to use it as it was designed. I know lost either choose not to read or can’t read when the sign up. As proven by all the basic questions that are answered in the rules they swear they have read. But That’s what I agreed to because I actually read what I saw I read. It’s designed to be used while doing something not rag chewing for hours. Not designed to have 10 repeaters in the same 50mile area all with rag chewers 24/7. I care about facts, rules ect. Not feelings. Gmrs is not a hobby. If you want a hobby get off your rear and get a ham ticket. When your trying to use a local repeater for evacuation animals and people in a fire, or looking for missing children and I’ve got a bunch of people chatting about the weather and the 10th hand held antenna they just got, things get old really fast. Facts not feelings.
  22. Ok so if you don’t know it has a programming port you haven’t read the instructions. If you had read the instructions you probably could have figured out out to reset the unit. You may have also been able to learn how to use it so you did not delete the wrong channels in the first place. Really gotta read instructions, and again programing in a computer is waay easier and you really learn faster how to program. Just gotta do research and figure things out. Although if you did research before hand you may not have purchased a retivis. Ewww
  23. Only 15miles? What’s the point an ht will do 50miles or more simplex. One of our local 5w repeaters has a radius of 45miles. I just don’t get why every one wants to flood the world with repeaters. What local activities is this repeater supporting?
  24. I’d highly suggest you program on a computer. It’s 10milliin times easier.
  25. It’s not a hobby. It’s a radio service to use while doing a hobby or an activity. Ham radio is a hobby. Gmrs is a tool
