Relax. Every "hobby" has subjects that come up from time to time and elicit opinions guaranteed to create chaos. Heck, after over a century of coexistence, asking which is better .45acp or 9mm will result in weeks of debate on firearms forums.

Using The Correct Tools For The Job Are Always Essential!!
WSHH887 replied to tcp2525's topic in General Discussion
Even the best professionals can make mistakes. One that comes to mind was a journeyman electrician who was installing a back of batteries as part of a large UPS system. He somehow became part of the circuit. Lived but never worked again. Sad part about this was though it was through his own failure he sued and won. Bleeding hearts will side with the electrician. But it ended up making the company owner decided to retire. It ended up costing about 30 people their jobs. And destroyed a great company that was pretty well respected. -

I was just going to mention finding out that just because an old B&W TV was unplugged doesn't mean it can't bite. There are just places you shouldn't put a screwdriver. -

Fortunately my work never involved more than 220. A lot was DC control power and 120 that was relay controlled to the equipment. But an old electrician gave me some advice early on. Have two sets of tools. One for electrical and the other for everything else. Keep them in separate tool bags and never mix them. I always bought the best tools I could afford. Retired now I still keep my electrical tools segregated from my others. Old habits die hard if you follow them, you will too. -

Still prefer Klein. And I have never trusted those pen type devices to see if a circuit is live. I do have one old Fluke meter. All it measures is 129 or 240 voltage. It must be close to 60 years old now. -
I have noticed that even though I have this "individual" ignored, if he's quoted his inane comments still show up. Then I just have to turn on my filter and ignore him.
-
Ahh, but there's the rub. Who's definition of wrong. Most would say violating the law is wrong
-
Actually, I find Klein to be better than Fluke. But to each his own.

I'm old, and I'm slow. But what is this penchant for flaunting, actually outright violating, FCC rules. There is the old saying, just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should do the thing. Also, I've noticed when folks who do this sort of thing get caught and punished, they are the ones who scream the loudest. The FCC may not be paying any attention now, but this is the government and you never know what will trip their trigger tomorrow.

Interesting. Curious about the model and year of the truck. You should be showing an error code if the voltage out of the alternator is above spec. If you don't have an OBD reader get one. You may still need to take it to a dealer or shop for proper diagnosis, but then again a relatively inexpensive reader might point the way and you'll have it for next time. Unless of course your vehicle predates OBD 1.

You must have younger eyes than me. I missed the traffic signals in that blurry image.

Somebody really missed the drop zone. Did they land on the freeway?

And the Titanic was unsinkable.

Thanks, good to know.

Thinking more about a base station. I'm in a pretty good spot with the only blind area being the top of a peninsula to the west. The blind area is from approx. 200° to 280°. And I sit on top of a hill. Not much I'm going to be able to do about the blind spot transmitting on simplex. But honestly the rest of the way around the compass has pretty good line of sight down the coast and inland to the foothills north of downtown L.A. I happen to have an unused flag pole from a project I never finished. I haven't measured it but I figure it's about 15' and made from aluminum. Properly set in cement, would this make a good mast?

Just looked at mine and no such restrictions are in place. Interestingly the form 605-G has a date of 2007. So one would think they haven't put any restrictions on the license since that form was issued. Bue we are dealing with the federal government.

I too faced this. But being a rookie I left the factory programming as, for now. I am using the factory repeater channels but putting the closest one in the first position and naming it accordingly. Working out from there, geographically speaking. Wil it work out? Who knows. On the other hand reprogramming isn't a big deal. But along as I am here. Since you can, sometimes program power outputs, why would you ever select the lower setting?

Not exactly true. In order to pump the same amount of water you need to increase the flow rate through the 1/2" pipe. As you do this the friction loss increases and eventually regardless of how high the pressure the flow rate will actually decrease.

Steve you just answered a question I had regarding call sign assignment. That was were the issued alpha numerically. It seemed that way but with any government agency appearances can be deceiving.
-
We just need to keep reminding them.

Does it say on the website that fees for licenses not issued is non refundable? If not and you get no refund call your congressman or senator. They are your representatives in government. Make them earn at least a little of their bloated salaries.

I didn't want to drill any holes in my Tacoma. I found a mount that attaches to the rear of the bed using existing bolts. They make similar ones for other trucks. Installation on mine was remove two bolts, then reinstall them with the mount in place. I used an NMO mount on the bracket so I could easily remove the antenna to prevent theft. Wiring ran underneath the edge of the bed and into the cab through a "overpressure vent" on the rear of the cab. Zero holes drilled.

FCC Bans ZTE, Hytera (HTY / TYT) and Others

Shhh! According to certain folks GMRS isn't a hobby. Although I looked up the definition of hobby, just in case I had been wrong all these years, and it certainly fits. -
Okay, here's what I fail to understand. My DB20 came with the programming cable. The software is downloadable. I admit it's not the best programming software I've ever seen, but it works just fine. So why is what software you use a significant issue?
