Actually, I find Klein to be better than Fluke. But to each his own.

I'm old, and I'm slow. But what is this penchant for flaunting, actually outright violating, FCC rules. There is the old saying, just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should do the thing. Also, I've noticed when folks who do this sort of thing get caught and punished, they are the ones who scream the loudest. The FCC may not be paying any attention now, but this is the government and you never know what will trip their trigger tomorrow.

Interesting. Curious about the model and year of the truck. You should be showing an error code if the voltage out of the alternator is above spec. If you don't have an OBD reader get one. You may still need to take it to a dealer or shop for proper diagnosis, but then again a relatively inexpensive reader might point the way and you'll have it for next time. Unless of course your vehicle predates OBD 1.

You must have younger eyes than me. I missed the traffic signals in that blurry image.

Somebody really missed the drop zone. Did they land on the freeway?

And the Titanic was unsinkable.

Thanks, good to know.

Thinking more about a base station. I'm in a pretty good spot with the only blind area being the top of a peninsula to the west. The blind area is from approx. 200° to 280°. And I sit on top of a hill. Not much I'm going to be able to do about the blind spot transmitting on simplex. But honestly the rest of the way around the compass has pretty good line of sight down the coast and inland to the foothills north of downtown L.A. I happen to have an unused flag pole from a project I never finished. I haven't measured it but I figure it's about 15' and made from aluminum. Properly set in cement, would this make a good mast?

Just looked at mine and no such restrictions are in place. Interestingly the form 605-G has a date of 2007. So one would think they haven't put any restrictions on the license since that form was issued. Bue we are dealing with the federal government.

I too faced this. But being a rookie I left the factory programming as, for now. I am using the factory repeater channels but putting the closest one in the first position and naming it accordingly. Working out from there, geographically speaking. Wil it work out? Who knows. On the other hand reprogramming isn't a big deal. But along as I am here. Since you can, sometimes program power outputs, why would you ever select the lower setting?

Not exactly true. In order to pump the same amount of water you need to increase the flow rate through the 1/2" pipe. As you do this the friction loss increases and eventually regardless of how high the pressure the flow rate will actually decrease.

Steve you just answered a question I had regarding call sign assignment. That was were the issued alpha numerically. It seemed that way but with any government agency appearances can be deceiving.

We just need to keep reminding them.

Does it say on the website that fees for licenses not issued is non refundable? If not and you get no refund call your congressman or senator. They are your representatives in government. Make them earn at least a little of their bloated salaries.

I didn't want to drill any holes in my Tacoma. I found a mount that attaches to the rear of the bed using existing bolts. They make similar ones for other trucks. Installation on mine was remove two bolts, then reinstall them with the mount in place. I used an NMO mount on the bracket so I could easily remove the antenna to prevent theft. Wiring ran underneath the edge of the bed and into the cab through a "overpressure vent" on the rear of the cab. Zero holes drilled.

FCC Bans ZTE, Hytera (HTY / TYT) and Others

Shhh! According to certain folks GMRS isn't a hobby. Although I looked up the definition of hobby, just in case I had been wrong all these years, and it certainly fits. -
Okay, here's what I fail to understand. My DB20 came with the programming cable. The software is downloadable. I admit it's not the best programming software I've ever seen, but it works just fine. So why is what software you use a significant issue?

I'm in the call Radioddity camp. Get one connection wrong and you have a bright and shiny new paperweight.

Lots of us newbies here. Welcome to the fire.

You can change the Constitution. Problem is the folks who start the ball rolling aren't going to put themselves out of work. We did it for state officials here, but it was the citizens who did it. We have an initiative process that lets the citizens create laws independent of the legislature and governor. Once we voted for the death penalty. The courts said was in violation of the state constitution. So the citizens up and amended the constitution. Sadly we still haven't executed anyone because the governor has violated his oath of office.

Okay, this got me to thinking. I mentioned in another thread about putting a DB-5 in a sling pack. But it requires a power source. Turns out I have eight older, but not dead, small 12 volt batteries that came out of an ECV. I juiced one up, hooked it up to the radio and everything worked. Left it on all night scanning and this morning it's still working. next to see how long it works with intermittent transmissions. It's kind of fun finding stuff in my garage and repurposing it for radio use.

The whole balance of trade/tariffs thing was caused by only one thing. Americans forgot. They forgot that we won WWII because we were an industrial and military powerhouse. We supplied ourselves and our allies with the majority of men and materials to fight the war. And in forgetting we gave that advantage to our enemies. We won because we could, not necessarily produce the "best" tank/airplane/etc., but because we could produce more and faster. And as the war dragged on our allies were less able to provide what was needed themselves. All the while we produced more and more and more. Short of nuclear/biological war we would loose any protracted war and for exactly the same reasons the Axis lost WWII. If we don't increase our manufacturing capability BEFORE war comes (and it always has) we will have to rely on the kindness of our enemies much as Japan and Germany did. And I doubt they will be as kind. Remember, never in the history of the world, have defeated enemies be treated so well and aided in reconstruction as after WWII.

Except China has already proven they will export to a different country and have stuff imported from there to the US. Remember, China has been falsifying ISO certs for decades. Heck I was literally burned by substandard construction materials.

I'm pretty new here and probably shouldn't write this. But I've been around online information sharing sine before the WWW. Back when online literally meant on the telephone line to one other computer. Back before bulletin boards. So I have learned a bit about the folks that haunt the anonymous electronic world. But here goes. This guy is what is colloquially called a troll. The folks make outrageous statements, often pure fantasy, in order to incite responses. They feed off of the responses. It doesn't matter whether it a good or bad response. As long as they can stir the pot the will. The ways you kill a troll are simple. First they can be banned by the forum owner. Unfortunately they sometimes pop back up under a new "identity". The second way is to stave the troll. Again, two methods. Best is to put him on your ignore list. You won't see his comments unless someone else quotes him. The other method is to never respond to his comments. It took a bit for me to convince myself this guy was a troll. I'm ignoring him. If he irritates do the same.
