  1. That's not really how the internet works, but, good luck.
  2. Assuming you are hearing the chatter on channels 15 through 22 you are probably hearing repeaters. To talk to the people using the repeaters you will need to configure your radio to use those specific repeaters. The UV-5R is the absolute worst radio for someone at your skill level, so I won't even bother with that one. On your Midland you will have to enable repeaters, then identify what repeater you are hearing, acquire the correct 'tone' to use the repeater, then enter that tone into correct repeater channel.
  3. There is at least one technical reason why FRS would be a better choice: You can get way (wayyyy) more fars-per-inch of the antenna with an FRS than a hand-held CB.. a 5-inch antenna an on FRS radio can get you 10miles in excellent conditions, ~1/2 mile in decent/poor conditions. For those same farz on CB, you would need a 25-inch (just a guess, but much larger, you get the point) antenna on the radio, making a hand-held very unwieldy and a potential deadly eye-poking menace.
  4. Which piece do you feel like you are missing? if you give us some info/details/anything about what you need help with, I am sure someone will be able to guide you.
  5. If you are really intent on tracking it down, look into the KrakenSDR - it will cost you, but it will take you to their front door in a matter of minutes - literally. SOURCE: I had one and used it to track down several repeater-jammers, one of them whilst he was driving in his car
  6. I use that repeater when I go off-roading in that area - I was on it/using it on Saturday when I was in Joshua Tree.. It sounds like you have the settings right - not sure why you aren't connecting.. When you figure it out and get on the repeater tell Salton Sea Randy (he's the OTHER Randy) that NotARubicon said hello..
  7. That's a H.A.M. radio, not a GMRS radio, so now you're going to have to do everything manually.. Find a channel, enter the transmit frequency and the offset, and the tones.. I'm sure someone will chime in with all the details, but, I'm out.
  8. If i have learned anything from this forum it is that "some people" care! They care very, VERY much.. Its sad, but it is true.
  9. make sure your radio is in GMRS mode (it is by default), then make sure you are on Repeater Channel 19/Repeater 5 (i dont remember how it is listed on the H3, you may have to refer to the user manual). When you are on the correct repeater channel you do not need to worry about the offset. Whilst on the correct channel, go in to the menus and enter your D072 tone (it won't show N, just find the 072), save it, and you're done. After you have done all that, if it still does not work come back and give us more detail about "cannot seem to transmit" - such as how are you determining that it is not transmitting, and the steps you took up to that point - and please tell us what a "CV" is.
  10. To simply even further: You create a new custom channel with the correct tones. There are only a very few radios that do not allow this. If you tell us what brand and model of radio we can give you more specifics.
  11. 1) Make sure the volume is up 2) Turn down the squelch 3) Disable any Receive(RX) CTCSS/DTC/DPL tones or codes If, after all that, you still dont hear anything, send it back and tell them to send you one that works.
  12. Today i was in an area known as Eagle Mountain near Joshua Tree and heard a lady calling out to her dog, over the radio, who was helping them find the radio that they had lost in the desert.. apparently the dog could hear her calling him over the radio and led them to it, but it took about an hour.. and we got to listen to the entire show.
  13. Just for more infos: I live in an all Mac household and avoided doing this for years because I didnt want all the hassle. I was finally forced into trying it and installing/setting up Parallels was VERY easy - virtually automatic, and it works great. The worst part is paying for it but it really is worth it for running the manufacturers Windows-only programs.
  14. What did I miss??!! I refuse to disregard until i know!
  15. I dunno.. Never seen/heard that error before. i would try a factory reset. if that doesn't fix it, unless someone else has any better ideas, you might have to call the Radiooddity man.
  16. Yes, ASAP!!!1 Because if you ever accidentally transmit on one of those channels with that radio you will get a $10,000 fine. Its your choice, but are you willing to take that risk? SOURCE: "some people" on this forum
  17. Ya think?! Are you certain that you are selecting the correct radio-model before trying to read from it?
  18. OK THANK YOU I AM SURE I WILL HAVE FUN ON THIS FORUM THANK YOU1
  19. Post your data here, and i am sure someone will be happy to come along and help.
  20. There are literally only two possibilities: A: You have the only KG-1000G Plus ever, in the history of Wouxun to somehow, inexplicably do this thing that no other Wouxun and probably no other radio from any brand, has ever done in the past OR 3: You are very, very confused, and, you are doing it wrong. At this point i would suggest doing a full factory-reset to undo whatever atrocities you have inflicted upon that radio, find a different repeater, and start over.
  21. It sounds like you are connecting to a repeater. If not, then, you're doing it wrong.
  22. maybe if we knew what the problem was, or if you left any hint about what you are having trouble with, someone would actually be able to help.. But, I guess we'll never know..
