  1. Thank you guys for your comments... keep them coming as it helping me turn dream to develop a plan...
  2. I'm a newbie to GMRS and made a great connection with my local repeater guy and sent him a donation to keep it up. His repeater is not that busy but I want to add my own on my hill (mountain). No electric available, good solar view and need to hear how you guys did or would set up your repeater in waterproof Tupperware box... solar, battery, duplexing two radios (40 watts) with cables plus one antenna... Looking for low maintenance as I will not be going up the mountain that often... hard hike carrying equipment up the mountain. I should add the only one repeater in area and not a high traffic area and want to respect my new buddy repeater traffic and his history (friends etc). So I looked at RT97 https://shop.mygmrs.com/collections/featured-products/products/retevis-rt97-gmrs-repeater-5w and found out it is not as advertised being 10 watts. In fact I wanted 30-40 watts unit as using HT 4 watts. Thanks in advance for your help and if Admin needs to move this to another forum, great... Jack WRJX754
  3. I have a KG-805G and used CHRIP software on my Mac then cut and paste one of the repeater channels say Rpt15 to a new channel line in the software then named it XXX for the repeater county location it serves. I have programed several repeaters listed after the last Repeater Channel so they are all are group together for easy location and flipping back and forth. This being my first GMRS radio, which was suggested by BTWR staff, can't loose with a $80 experience. I did get second one for G Daughter who we are working our way to be ham in vision casing her for Space Force.
  4. Thanks admin... good to know. So you are with BTWR? Good to know your product knowledge.
  5. Here a 10 watt repeater that may work... Put it in your vehicle and hike into the woods and see if you and wife can reach other. https://www.retevis.com/rt97-portable-repeater-power-amplifier-uhf#A9150C-C9082A-C9123A I did email them to see if Part # 95 approved and have not heard back for over a week, so I would say no. 6. Just got my 805G after T-Day and wanted to connect to my repeater in our area... had some setup issue but kept asking questions and some great guys PM me with software programing to make it happen for radio check with my repeaters operator. So if you need some input, PM me and we can walk it through.... I'm thankful for this forum and BTWR who lead me to 805G and willing to purchase a second one but have to ask to make should if I over look another good HT... Only asking so I do not have buyers remorse. My pros are can swap out accessories between the two 805G... great connection and sound to area repeater.. Can program it now that I know what I'm doing, I think... Cons, are.... thinking.... it is Chinese, no my two adopted daughters are and husband of one is my biking and Jeeping buddy. Still thinking... OK it is not America made, that the best I could come up with being a buy American guy. O I thought of another con but it is not radio fault... Can not sit in my Lazy Boy chair in the basement and reach the repeater... Have to go upstairs out of the bunker... All this to say if this is your first HT get it.... So I'm waiting until Monday to place my order for second unit with BTWR plus hopping the value accessory pack is not longer out of stock. Will be listening for you...
  7. I see that I've many replies and should say thank you ALL for help and insight... I got it to work on both of my test settings this afternoon with the repeater operator. Family so happy on this family hobby. Since BTWR was closed for the holiday. I had to import radio factory setting using CHRIP software to see what was going on. In doing so I saw via the programing software which showed it was not setup for +5 on duplexing. Just a side note, being a newbie, I asked BTWR before purchasing if they would set up this first repeater channel for me.... BTWR reply NO. I will say BTWR was helpful in getting me to pick this KG-805G and very help with it. Now I'm open for any other HT I should be looking at as I only have this one plus an old FRS unit. I hope I did not offend anyone with my repeated questions. It is one of those things, where you have to ask enough folks as everyone see things from different points of view. Sure I did not ask the right questions as I did not know what they where. So asking gave me many answers to the puzzle piece I was missing. You all played a part getting me to be successful in front of family and kids during the first radio check with repeater. Must thankful for the PM answers these guys gave just the right on out of the view of others. Be patience and helpful to us newbie as we are the future of GMRS... You guys have been a good witness to me and my kids of caring, helpful teachers, that what make you so great in my eyes... P.S. Now for any Newbie with Wouxun KG-805G GMRS Radio, feel free to call on me... I can be one of those puzzle piece you need for the question you have no clue how to ask it. We will PM several times until we get it right thus not boring others on the forum.

  9. First thanks for taking the time for this newbie... So am I overthinking this. So if the 15 repeater channel is 462.550 and ctc tone 167.9. Then got to 467.550 and enter ctc tone to 167.9 as operator said ctc on both RX TX. That is it? This is what the operator wrote which makes me think he programed his units: I’d put in the tone for R/T both- once you do you’ll stop hearing the Morse code from the repeater. If you’re talking about the +5MHz shift, you will need to activate that on the 550 channel. That in combination with the tone should let the radio access the repeater and improve distance tremendously You should be receiving on 462.550 and transmitting on 467.550. You might be able accomplish that through a + shift as long as it’s configured to be 5MHz. Thanks.
  10. Basic question on KG-805G repeater setup. Does this unit automatically TX on say channel Repeater 15 then 5MHz above or below to RC. For example: receiving on 462.550 and transmitting on 467.550 without programing out of the box? Thanks.
