  1. IMHO there is two types of "Chinese Radios"... someone (unnamed) gave my Ham ticket grand daughter a Baofeng and it had features like GMRS and Ham but could not work... we donated it to a 501 c 3 non profit looking for radios. None the higher end radios from Wouxun sold by https://www.buytwowayradios.com have been the best radio for the price and we have several. I have a lot of the GMRS and Ham radios and they are priced right, have more programing effect as I use https://www.rtsystemsinc.com to cross from KG-935 to KG-UV8H. So you can not say all "Chinese Radios" are trash... ask us users of the higher end "Chinese Radios". FYI I have two adopted Chinese daughters and their family here in USA and they are like high end Chinese.... the CCP bring down the Chinese products that copy what we have... the higher end Chinese firms who do it right are the ones you need to look for. Enjoy whatever radio you have and make it work for your lifestyle. MacJack
  2. I use the RT System cable and software... works very well but you have to purchase it. https://www.rtsystemsinc.com/KG-935G_c_2138.html I have this and tried the free mfg software and CHIRP (which I do not recommend as some brick their radio). So for $49 you can do so much... MacJack
  3. That my point... I would pay for the right product and if it fails will bitch for refund or suit if my radio gets bricked for a replacement... MacJack

  5. Thanks Michael for the info... still in development and been working on it since Feb 2021. It was interesting read of the process of writing code. Just so you know RT System wrote the KG-935G in two weeks and have had KG-UV8H for a long time. I think I would wait as would not like anyone to lockup ("brick") ones radio... MacJack
  6. Garrett, thanks for info... I just download the lastest CHIRP and do not see KG-UV8H profile on the list... See attached on my pull down. I just do not get it... Yes after download of new CHIRP, closed all windows and moved new program to Applications on my Mac OS... Clicked on app and did not tell me to update so I know I have a good version... Not that I do not believe you... I only bring this up for education value for others. MacJack
  7. Thanks WyoJoe for pointing out value of CHIRP... but it does not have UV8H or 935G and I have been waiting for 6 months or more... So when RT System offed UV8H and then develop software for 935G within a week, I jumped on it... I have played with CHIRP for my 805G and 905G but it did not go deep in the the device setting. RT System did a better job and made more sense... Thank you for your comments as I sure it will help others who can wait for a CHIRP developt, (guy for overseas) to write something is not for me... MacJack
  8. WyoJoe, happy for you... mark me down as lazy, just do not to learn another OS like Linux. 30 years ago did Unix and was nice but did not keep it up as made my money in the PC Windows marketplace. I did look at Raspberry Pi for 10 minutes but did not cover a lot of my other needs. Thanks for expressing you view as I hope you caught the eyes/ears of someone on your same page. MacJack
  9. Well that sounds good but the PC XP is not connected to the internet (off the grid) so I had to email my support guy at RT System and he emailed me the numbers needed. Good to know it is automatic as it must look up you email address and serial number and fills in your authentication code. Thanks for the correction so I do not mislead others. MacJack
  10. That is good to know BoxCar... I will be waiting months/year for RT System to do software in MacOS... and I will NOT be purchasing a PC unless gifted to me... Just living with my old XP (off the grid) as only use it for programing radios. MacJack
  11. OK got RT Systems new KG-935G Radio Programming Software as well downloaded for my KG-UV8H radio. WOW this not extensive review just an observation. For both of the above products, I'm impressed. The same cable for the 935G works for the UV8H, just look before you buy for different radios. They have a very secure licensing authentication with authorization IDs, serial numbers, email address and they provide an authentication code. So after you download do not plan on installing unless it is within 9-5 5 days a week. Saying this as not to frustrate anyone since it needs to be validated with a authentication code. Very easy to use software and some nice shortcut and best of all is the cut and paste works well on my PC XP and my mouse arrow can click on the buttons. Why it not a extensive review is they offer so much more and configuring the radios that I have to go study them... e.g. Radio setup. MacJack
  12. Now that is worth it to do. This is another reason I will get the software for Wouxun KG-UV8H. Thanks, Michael, MacJack
  13. I sold my condo on the 17 floor and had great GMRS coverage... Sorry can't help you now... MacJack
  14. Thank you Michael as always great detail in your comments... Will see if the new RT System software for KG-935G Radio Programming Software fixed what you are talking about... If I read your comments, you are using your KG-1000G for your KG-935G, correct? MacJack
  15. Let me know if Chirp has the UV8H as I have that radio as well... Chirp on a Mac OS still has issues as the mouse does not line up with the boxes to click... FYI I did reach out to RT System if they have the software for MacOS and it will be out sometime. MacJack

  17. Well I hear you but I'm a Mac guy and had an old PC running XP and the Wouxun does not do cut and paste on it... So $30 is cheaper then $500 for a new PC I will never use. I will let you know if I picked wrong. MacJack
  18. I have had limited success in use for the free Wouxun software on my old XP computer... cutting and pasting was a heartbreak.... So I noticed that RT Systems had new KG-935G Radio Programming Software available https://www.rtsystemsinc.com/KG-935G_c_2138.html I have software and cable coming in and will give a look-see next week with my comments. I'm sure Buy Two Way Radios may carry this KG-935G Radio Programming Software, I just did not see it on their list yet, so must be new... Go here to see if on the list for sale at https://www.buytwowayradios.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=rt+system Having fun and enjoyment with my radio.... MacJack
  19. Yes thanks for saying that.... I did not even bring up the exceptions. O, yes same here for us, ours is a GMRS membership repeater with a fee. The local repeater I use the most (which is down now) is by far the best, free, strong and friendly folks, followed by my own owe which is not that high. MacJack
  20. You are correct, I was speak in general hams, not special interest groups. Thanks for weighting as some in the GMRS community are thinking about getting ham ticket and just want them to know the lay of the land. MacJack
  21. Michael, Check out the RFinder B1 https://androiddmr.com I have two and really like DMR repeaters... great range and easy of use... Yes, it is $990 but I can have so much usage... FM/GMRS/MURS/UHV/UHF/DMR/NOAA/Cell/Internet/email/all kinds of apps/Fun. Check it out... FYI I got sold and gave away all my other radios. MacJack
  22. Good read.. This comment is IMHO.... You do not need to get permission to use a HAM Repeaters, if you are a license HAM... BUT GMRS Repeaters owners have to control or look over who on his GMRS Repeater, thus you need to get permission. As a ham and using DMR (digital mobile radio) having so much fun and it is the next step up from GMRS... Get your ham license while it is still free from FCC. Enjoy the adventure... not that hard, I'm 74 yo and my study buddy was my 12 yo grand daughter... MacJack
  23. But it is nice working radio/cell and get instance repeaters while driving. You can find deals.
  24. Yes nice looking. Looks like it all Zello/EchoLink where as the B1 has a real RF radio in UHF/VHF/DMR plus BrandMeister Network with internal hotspot. I use Zello/EchoLink on my iPhone all the time.
