  1. For the price you will spend on 2 mobiles, or a mobile and a repeater module and vehicle extender you can grab a GR1225 or Vertex online. If our seto n using 2 radius mobiles they are online for $25-30 all day long. I stopped listing them as it cost me more to ship than I was selling them for.
  2. ^^^^ What he said. Dont skimp on COAX. The RT97 and Midland repeater is ideal for your situation. Just give them 12v and walk away. If you can do 10' of coax with a good antenna the RT97 works great if you can get it in a good location. My motorhome had the RT97 with a 3' Jumper to a LAIRD 3db gain fiberglass stick. Covered the entire campground I was at on a handheld. If your only using handhelds no reason to use a bigger repeater. Its all on antenna location.
  3. How do you know the repeater is working properly or duplexer is tuned correctly. Depending on duplexer there may be some desence on TX but if you can talk simplex fine then either its a configuration issue or a equipment issue with the repeater.
  4. Well Id start with the map on this website and see if any are listed. Next I'd listen to every pair via a HT or mobile. Next I'd listen to each pair at the location and antenna you want oput the repeater on. From there I'd pick a channel/.
  5. If recorder has right and left inputs. Leave one side on mobile radio for rx then second to a SDR listening to your TX frequency.
  6. You can't dop that. Your VXR is going to have a duplexer correct ? That is tuned for TX and RX channels. You can't flip them and use it the way you plan.
  7. Our SAR team started out using GMRS after our local REACT Team donated the repeater. They had a club license as we did. When those changed we moved to public safety channels. We still host a GMRS repeater but think we only have 2 licensed members so its pretty quiet
  8. Per the spec sheet that is the proper mic https://www.motorolasolutions.com/content/dam/msi/docs/vertex-standard/legacy-products/VXR-7000_SpecSheet_0410_FINAL.pdf
  9. Greensboro 675 is active in the AM, Raliegh 675 Ive been told is good coverage but never heard a peep going thru the area. Thats about it until you get into Williamsburg. If you go 70 there is one I've heard but dont recall the frequency. Not alot over there I've heard. My route is normally off to 70 down to new bern then south for family.
  10. Did you sign in to the main site ? Its the same login but different location. The forum has nothing to do with the main site for login.
  11. The last place in Syracuse closed up about 10 years ago. There was a mobile guy at the Truck Stop in Parish a few years back but not sure he is still around. Maybe check the Flying J on 7th North ? The tire carrier is junk for a CB antenna location so I'm not surprised. Youd be better off on the roof.
  12. So my guess is a argument between repeater a owner and repeater b owner. Normal case would be pick another frequency.
  13. AS said every SAR member would need their license. Most will not want to pay that. Your best bet is a public safety frequency. Our SAR team has multiplei n VHF and UHF as well as interop stuff. To do SAR correct you need to do it right. Other than training I would not run an operation on GMRS or ham.
  14. I can hit 4 repeaters (HAM) from my house. I scan all of them. I rarely hear anything on them. One of them has some net one night. The one in my county never has anyone on it. Its litterly dead.
  15. Spent most of yesterday cleaning up and fixing more of the JK from our last JJ Uhwarie trip. Wife got to apply her "band aids" to the damaged metal. I got to replace the driver steel brake line from the ABS unit to the rear of the jeep. Ya me. Even prebent stuff is a PITA to install. Also did the 3rd pressure wash to get mud out and off it and replaced a ton of the plastic clips on the front fenders. Laslty installed a new amazon ccr AM/FM/BT/Car play radio. We mainly wanted to be able to stream from our phones and old radio only supported the aux port (no usb) and the AMFM was broken. Today need to get it loaded back up and take it for a spin. Cumberlands in a couple weeks.
  16. Were you logged in to the site. Normally if your not logged in tones will not show up.
  17. This is the live feed setup for the local ham repeater. Lots of info if you want to listen. W4HTP 145.350 Repeater (broadcastify.com) Due to the hurricane devastation in WNC, this feed is currently on N2GE 145.190 at Mt. Mitchell because their feed is down. --------- The Tower of Power 145.350 is temporarily down for repairs.
  18. With the latest clarifications I believe it would be illegal. That is very similar to the system in NY that was up. My own GMRS system was setup with "voting" recievers to help hand helds. Its now just standalone. And mine was done to LMR standards and not internet linking like many.
  19. Well to a point I agree but I also disagree. We ran into issues in the past with HAMS who wanted to help with SAR. In the end we had to rescue a HAM from the field which took resources away from the actual incident. Regardless if its urban SAR or wildland its not always walking down the yellow brick road. The area this incdient is taking place in is rough when its not destroyed. Its worse now. Im not saying hams are useless but know the limitations. And if groups work with local resources ahead of an event its simpler and more effective. There are reasons RACES and other groups are asking for folks to take ICS and other class's. I've been a ham for over a 1/4 century but none of that that got me into more public safety and even carreer stuff. Its a great tool in the tool box.
  20. There were 2 in the Ashville area. Unknown how they faried in the recent storm. Also to the west in Sylva but not much else. To be honest I'd buy them an inreach and ship it ot them.
  21. Most of the scanner feeds and linked stuff in the area is offline either due to power (none), internet (most cell down) and other reasons. The 2M repeater above has been active. ADSB is fileld with helicopters flying stuff from Hickory and Stateville as well as NG and Military Helos. VIPER is up and active with traffic on operations.
  22. So very confused. You mention a XPR and also a SVR. I assume someone used the SVR for the RX side of the repeater and the XPR is being used as the TX ? Can you snap a picture. While that would work normally the SVR would be a different band than the XPR in the LMR world. Lots of them in service for vehicle extenders per say. Anyway if you can give us more info it would help. The XPR and the SVR use totally different software so you'll need software and cables for both. SVR may be a bit harder to find but its out there.
  23. I run the Larsen NMO Tri Band antenna on my truck. It works quite well on UHF GMRS as well as VHF frequencies in the range of MURS. Its 16.5 inches tall and have no issues. https://theantennafarm.com/shop-by-categories/antennas-mounts/mobile-antennas/vhf-uhf-dual-band/451-commercial-dual-band/219-high-gain-dual-band-antennas/8932-larsen-nmo150-450-758-detail
  24. Dixie Run at Windrock this weekend if anyone is looking for something to do. We have repairs from Uhwarrier JJ last weekend so can't make it to this one. Fun weekend in Uhwarrie again even with a little breakage..litterly lost the brake line on left rear (steel line near frame) on Dicki Bell and limped to Troy for parts. Then the other half backed into a tree on sunday and we broke a ujoint. Pile of parts at home so busy weekend. next trip is Cumberlands in October.
  25. Just went over this on another radio forum and the answer was no.
