  1. Can it be set to Wide-band FM?
  2. WELCOME! I do not have the UV-9G or the GMRS 9R but the $22 cable I purchased on Amazon for my original UV-5Rs has worked with every K-type HT that I own that allows for programming. Don't try to save money with cheap cables, as there are many counterfeits out there than have driver problems when installing on your computer. K-Type is the two prong audio cable that an external microphone uses to connect to our HTs and comes from Kenwood's original use of this type plug with their HTs for the last 30 years. Try it; you cannot harm the HT as long as it is K-type; and be sure to push it in ALL the way and turn the volume up to about 2/3rds.
  3. Plus you must set each Repeater transmit Tone to the specific Tone needed by that repeater to recognize your transmission and retransmit it to others listening to that repeater.
  4. I already had a roof mounted Comet CX-333 tri-bander from Ham usage that seems to work fine with GMRS and MURS (as little that I use MURS at home). Its not 17 feet but its over 5 feet (the one on the left).
  5. From the ridiculous to the sublime! ?
  6. I purchased a couple of BF-88*s to play with and then donated them to the Haven New Jersey homeless assistance group that was looking for HTs to use in their GMRS network. These are 16 channel FRS radios, and I used CHIRP at the time. I took a look at the BF-889FCC software you linked and my best guess is that for this radio, this OFF/ON setting does nothing. I will do some more research tho. Have you tried changing the settings to ON on a few channels and see if they operate differently? UPDATE: My best guess is that if these have a scanning ability, turning JUMP CODE on tells it to skip that channel during the scan. * Actually it turns out I purchased and donated the BF-888s which are probably not that much different FRS radios.
  7. I agree!
  8. Welcome! Please edit the typos in your firmware version numbers (006 vs 009) so as to not cause the next reader as much confusion as it caused me. Once corrected my post will seem superfluous! ?
  9. Welcome to myGMRS; an interesting introduction... Can you tell us which frequency they use; or is that private and confidential too?
  10. BTW: I decoded the morse code ID slightly differently, but it is still a callsign not in the FCC database.
  11. Chankel at this link back in 2008 seems to think that this might be a Helicopter Express Traffic link for Philly.
  12. WELCOME to GMRS and myGMRS! Does it generate a morse code ID; if so record it and post the audio file here for us to decode.
  13. Well, at least some of you know your GMRS callsigns so that you can start transmitting without delay. Let's us know your cities, state and zip codes and we can look up some repeaters for you too!
  14. Looks like these are open to you: Kazoon 725 156.7 Open-700 100.0 Brooklyn (may be too far) Try asking for permission on SquidNet 650 and Lemon Creek 700 and KeasbeyNJ 700
  15. You hate special purpose vehicles in the mountains?!? ?
  16. On your Raddioddity DB20-G (excellent choice!): Go to Channel 23 (or 23S), which is the repeater pair for 462.550/467.550 and there should be a "+" sign (for the proper GMRS upshift split) and a "H" for high power Press the FUN button If you are not already seeing (at the bottom of your screen) 01:T-CDC OFF, use the V/M button as an UP and the MAIN as a DOWN and run through the menu items to get to Menu item 01 as indicated and it should say 01:T-CDC OFF If you now press the MON button, it will scroll between 5 choices: Using the MON button scroll to 000 N sp:0 Using the Up Arrow button as UP and the Down Arrow button as DOWN, scroll to: 01:T-CDC XXX N sp:0. [deleted code after OP was successful; changed in photo below too] Press the FUN key to get out of the MENU (it should return to one of your two VFO's probably 145.0000 on the bottom of the screen; When you hold your transmit button down, in addition to the screen changing to 467.550 with a "+" and an "H" in between there should be a "DT" (for your programmed DCS tone) and the 10 dashes should light up RED This programming change should now be stored into memory so that when you power down and then power back up, Channel 23 will always transmit with this DCS tone and should access the Memorial Park repeater for you when you are in range.
  17. Are you attempting to use 2 HTs to test transmitting to the Memorial Repeater? This sounds like a “desense” problem! Randy please explain this problem in more detail.
  18. Chirp generally has only the most important options but is usually easier to use.
  19. Could you explain what you mean by automatic audible monitoring? Sounds to me like you are using the wrong codes; perhaps inverse instead of normal. Which repeater?
  20. Because Trump will need a project at his low-security incarceration.
  21. Good news: Report back to us your experiences there in Indy!
  22. My Radioddity DB-20G arrived yesterday and I fired it up today and downloaded the default codeplug. It looks exactly like the default when using version 2.02 of the CPS software when it first opens, but I have not compared the sub-menu items. Amazon threw me a $16 discount coupon, too! It's really a terrific "simple" GMRS mobile unit right out of the box; and less expensive than the Midland. I easily added a CTCSS tone using the buttons on the unit to a repeater channel and started communicating on one of my local GMRS repeaters. BTW: Firmware v2.34 out of the box.
  23. I PM'd the owner of the Flashes 675 Repeater and he is open to an approval request from you! He said he may just be delayed getting to it.
  24. I think what keeps the Radioddity off of CHIRP is the lack of interest of someone to actually send the CHIRP team one of their radios, so that they can reverse engineer it.
