  1. Citizen, I have this radio, and I'm able to operate it above 30. However, I was given firmware by Retevis (WT_CD_RT76P _20210713(PIC).binX) and a tool to apply it (RT76P_Bootloader固件升级工具.exe). In the new software they'll also give you (RT76P developing software.exe which is very buggy), you will see two #30 entries. Just keep adding entries, as many as you need. Then write to the radio. On the radio, it moves on from 30, 31, etc. Ask for the firmware update from Retevis.

    Antennas

Here someone did real world proof of the Nagoya antennas. Short story, buy 15" if you need the extra range, otherwise the 5.5" is preferred.
  3. I went with the Copper J-Pole Antenna by KB9VBR. Decided to mount it on the roof as well and run a grounding wire, from a ground clamp, down to a grounding rod. Went with N female connector and 30ft of LMR-400 equivalent cable. Still getting everything connected. Will report success when done.
  4. Seems it would be a benefit to allow a friend to use a radio, so I could encourage them to buy a license. "Try before you buy".
  5. It does not require $500 to produce the requested radio. It may require talent, with which the company that has it will survive.
  6. I look forward to seeing your review.
  7. I hit a repeater about 34 miles away using a 5w handheld. The range is great if nothing is in the way.
  8. Yep, a frequency entry is a tiny byte array. We will remember the brands who can't accommodate a simple design element like this.
  9. I would prefer the KG-935G on appearance and function. Can someone test it back to back alongside the KG-UV9G so we can see the benefits of the superheterodyne? Inquiring minds want to know. Let's see the difference in action.

    Antennas

What specific frequencies are you interested in? For GMRS (462Mhz), I highly recommend the Nagoya NA-771G or the Nagoya NA-701G. Get them from buytwowayradios.com. The long variant does work well, I have tested it and confirmed this. I can't say which is better, because I've not been able to test them again each other, just again other antennas. The 15" version is good, probably not so much from its electrical properties, but rather from its height. It is above your head, above other objects and just makes that last stretch of audio come in clearer, if you need it. You'll will much prefer the short 5.5" version, however. The 15" whip is just in the way except for all but the most extreme of situations. Like I said, I can't say if the 15" is better than the 5.5". But I can say, they are both good antennas.
  11. Wow, I guess I overlooked this. Doesn't have RT76P or RA25 from Retevis listed. I guess I could ask.
  12. I have a software programming background. The PC software for these units is bizarre. I don't mean to insult the people who are working there to make it. Its just not acceptable. Like, simple features providing copy/paste, sane defaults, drop down combo-box behavior, multi selection, and so on. CHIRP is not much better.
  13. Yeah, I have a couple of Retevis RT76P units. $32. I do want a glass case radio, however. I'm looking at the Wouxun KG-935G.
  14. For fun, I wanted to see the power draw on the Retevis RA25 mobile radio. I connected it to an AC to DC Converter 12V 5A 60W Power Adapter (Alitov brand.) . Then the adapter was plugged into a Kill-A-Watt meter. Idle ~ 2W ~ .06A Receiving on channel 16 (462.575) high power ~ 10W ~ .10A Receiving on channel 16 (462.575) medium power ~ 4W ~ .06A Receiving on channel 16 (462.575) low power ~ 3W ~ .06A Transmitting on channel 16 (462.5750) high power ~ 48W ~ .71A Transmitting on channel 16 (462.5750) medium power ~ 32W ~ .51A Transmitting on channel 10 (467.6125) low power ~ 20W ~ .33A
  15. I have the G version of that antenna. Very nice and does help. I had the GM-30 for a while, testing to see if I wanted it or the Retevis RT76P. I went with the RT76P, but the GM-30 was nice enough. It did have a scanning feature as I recall. The fun of these CCR's (cheap Chinese radios) is finding out which radio is actually the same by three different brands!
  16. I'm new to radio and was shocked too at how bad, like completely terrible, the execution has been. No wonder Wouxun is taking off like they are. The term in my industry for this is called Product Management and User Experience. All of these companies need to do some user and field testing, get feedback, iterate, etc. I was trying to standardized on Retevis for my uses. The new models from Wouxun are very interesting. I don't need or want a $400 radio that lives in a glass case. Need something that can bet beat up. However, I do appreciate fine art and there is a place for $400.
  17. After 24 hours of getting your ID from the FCC, come back to the website here and try again.
  18. Correct, but I just saying that more radio should do the same and it not be a big deal about "part 95 yadda".
  19. w Where do I download your code plug?
  20. Its a waste of hardware and resource to need so many radios to accomplish what is a simple software setting. Make a big warning appear when you turn on 2/70 or other bands. Installing three radios in the truck is just silly and wasteful. The FCC needs to do better on this front.
  21. Thanks guys, I got it. I was just hoping someone had a RA25 code plug. I manually entered them all in the software. A pain, but now done.
  22. I have this model with firmware V2.01. I can't access menu items 1-16, unless I set the unit to UHF (400-470Mhz) mode. However, all the GMRS channels are gone. Does anyone have a code plug for the GMRS channels and UHF mode? When in GMRS mode, I can't change necessary settings.
  23. It appears that the KG-935G is SoC and does not make use of a superheterodyne receiver. How important a distinction is this? Notarubicon states that it helps the squelch to work, I suppose in noisy environments.
  24. Sounds like a fun SWR test setup to me. Buy several types and tell us the outcome! ?
