  1. UPDATE: Plugged in a external speaker (from the DB20 in my car), receives audio, however not if I push the plug in all the way (weird). Made contact, both on the repeater and simplex, no transmission issues. Radiooddity has been contacted so the only thing to do now is wait.
  2. Yep, now I'm concerned and will be reaching out to Radioddity. Tried scanning and found some activity (only on the meter)but not receiving audio at all and even the FM station has no audio now. ? Haven't been transmitting excessively, this morning only gave out my callsign.
  3. Last night I noticed my DB25G freeze up for a few seconds during a rx, it looked like a screenshot with the reception meter bar frozen at the current position and audio dropped off. It happened again this morning, briefly (been pretty quiet on air)...so I'm not sure the extent of the issue. How's this happen to anyone else? Should I be concerned?
  4. Thank you for my new tee-shirt (and magnet for the rig).? Looking for other related (gmrs, radio, etc) items (tees, hats, stickers, patches) so if any of ya'll know of any other outlets for such merchandise, please let me know.? It's hard enough keeping the ladies off of me, when they see my HT clipped to my belt, so some more apparel will make me simply irresistible!?
  5. Same. Usually the wire is pointing down (opposite of the rubber duck), in the picture I tucked it to condense the shot.
  6. "220, 221, whatever it takes" -Mr. Mom. Seriously though, I have no idea what gauge it is, some wire I cut off a old phone charger cable...
  7. Thank you for that perspective. Sounds like what I was needing to hear. The antenna system is a work in progress, exploring different options, as I'm limited by CC&R and trying to stay off their radar.
  8. Thanks for the information, I'll check into the current regs. Great point about the birdies. My coax is solid, LMR 400, the antenna is the Larsen BSA 450 (gonna try a j-pole next to compare performance). May consider a higher power mobile in the future, but for now I'm just trying to dial in what I got and use it to it's full potential. ?
  9. Thanks for your input. As to why, well I have a radio already so there's that. I like my 25 and maybe in the future I could upgrade if needed. I have not done any research into the prices of a compatible power amp, so I'm not sure how much I would be saving or not. Regardless, just looking at my options for using my current equipment.
  10. Hello all you out there in radio land...here's my noobie question of the day ?: Can I use a power amplifier with my mobile unit? For my base, I'm using the DB25-G. In the owner's manual it states the output power is 5W/25W GMRS...however, at best I'm only seeing 17.9 watts on my meter?. Hence the above question. Would it make a difference?? Does anyone use a power amplifier with their mobile unit? Pros/Cons, please...thx?
  11. Do j-pole antennas not have any gain to them, by design? (I'm getting one to try for better range/performance for my location and stay under the HOA radar). If no gain, is there a way to modify it for gain, or at least to not have any loss in tx/rx?
  12. I wouldn't delete anything, quite yet, you might want to call them tomorrow (Monday) morning to verify. When I applied, was having an issue get through to the payment page and I called directly, they sent me a link while we were on the phone and completed the process. Please report back your progress and outcome, as it may help others going through the same thing. You're almost there, stay motivated and positive.
  13. Okay, let's move on to power supply... two mobile radio in my shack (DB25-G-13.8V dc voltage, and K- 8900R-13.8 V dc voltage) . Both have the lighter plug setup, however, the connectors in the middle can be detached. Is there a power supply unit I can use instead of having two different ac adapters?
  14. Copy that...the antennas will be about 15 feet apart, hopefully that's enough distant apart.
  15. Follow up question. Moving away from the antenna(s) to the transceiver(s). Is there a minimum distance I should have the two units (gmrs and ham radios) from each other? Are there any interference issues I need to be concerned about? In the picture, you can see my DB25G and I'm wondering if it would be okay to mount my ham unit (hanging in the same fashion) next to it or maybe further to the left (above the books) where the two units would be separated by the partition?
  16. I see your query and raise you one, what's the "travel tone" (asks the newbie)?? Interested, gonna be making a road up soon and may want to program in some "travel tones.?
  17. I found a TRAM 1480 with is listed at 6ft (does that sound right? I have a spot and access to my roof (a/c unit deck), where my Larsen is now (3' ish). The rafters is a option, if necessary, but the roof, I believe, would give optimum range and performance...please correct me if I'm wrong. I will do some research on the attic option and more stealth ideas ?.
  18. Thank you, tweiss3, I should have clarified in my post...I'm looking for a base antenna. Where can I research the Tram 2piece, is there a model number? BTW, I'm in a condo complex and trying to stay low-key and under the radar of the HOA.
  19. Hello y'all, Looking to the not so distant future, as I have my amateur tech license test in December, and wanting dual-purpose antenna idea(s). Being active in my local GMRS community I plan on continuing open communication on that platform, as well as engaging the amateur's radio world. I'm seeking your insight because I know there are plenty of folks here that have both their GMRS and HAM licenses, and probably dual base stations. Currently I have the Larsen BSA 450 antenna for my DB25G (as some of you know and assisted in helping me get setup). What kind of dual setups do y'all have? Because the Larsen BSA450 isn't a dual band antenna, I'm wondering if setting up another, separate antenna, for HF is better, or would something like the Harvest X50C2 be a good option for me, being able to tx/rx for both systems using just the one antenna (if that's even possible)?
  20. I'm sure he's reading this thread, having his coffee, and beaming right now (as he should be). Great channel, enjoy the content and the competent reviews. Randy, if you're reading this I recently cross-posted a question (on your channel) regarding the limitations of scanning range of the KG-935G vs the GM30 and would appreciate a response/input, at your earliest convenience (answer it, pin it, or delete it-either which way will show that you read it, ty). ?73s
  21. Side comment: I entered all the scanning freq's, into the 935G, that I have in my other HT (GM30) but there's one it wouldn't let me write back to the radio, 482.86250 (LACSO-dispatch), which is past the listed frequency range (136.174, 400-470MHz) in the manual. This did kind of surprise me since I was able to write to my other HT and it picks up the signal just fine, with the same listed range.
  22. THANKS FOR THE CALL, TOM, IT WAS NICE TALKING WITH YOU. THOUGH WE DIDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, AT THE TIME, I KEPT EXPLORING AND WAS DETERMINED. FINAL FIXED IT (CALLING THIS ONE-USER ERROR ?)...IT SEEMS MY DISPLAY SETTING, NOT RESOLUTION, WAS SET AT "CUSTOM" (DON'T REMEMBER EVER DOING THAT?). DISABLED IT AND RESTARTED THE PC...ISSUE FIX, ALL COLUMNS AND ROWS ARE NOW VISIBLE. ?
  23. Thanks Tom...however, neither one of those worked for me ?
  24. Hey Tom, mine arrived, thanks for the tip on the back ordering. Programming now, used the printer function-awesome. The one issue I can't seem to figure out on my pc, using windows ten, there are parts of the programming chart that I can't access and/or fully see ... So as you can see, I can navigate up/down, enter frequencies fine, but can't go side to side, hence cant' see the far right side of the screen in order to input info(like to enter channel name, configuration function). Any clue? Any assistance would be appreciated. I even tried the different display resolutions (currently at 1600x900) all the way down to the lowest setting. As you can also see below that when I print those sections do appear...
