  1. 1. SMA, but there are 4 different SMA connectors. There’s the outer threaded shield which can be either male or female and there’s the center pin and socket. You will find male threads and female center sockets, male threads and male center pins, female threads with female center sockets, and finally female threads with male center pins. (RG-58 is a cable standard). 2. No, they do not. Of the radios I have, the Baofeng UV5R dual band radios, Yaesu FT65R, Yaesu FT4x, and Alinco MD5 all use the female threads and male pin on the radio, but my FT5DR uses male threads and a female center socket.
  2. Of course power makes a difference, otherwise we could all have FRS radios. But many people get worked up about a watt or two when a good antennas makes much more difference.
  3. A repeater acknowledgement is only heard if the repeater operator programs it. It’s not necessary and some do not.
  4. I have one on one of my small Yaesu dual band handheld radios. It’s made by Diamond and while it isn’t as effective as the longer Diamond, I can still hit the repeater that’s 16 miles away. It’s good enough and small enough to carry full time.
  5. You must combine that with what’s called the “Parent Manual” https://bettersaferadio.com/wp-content/uploads/BSR-Wouxun-KG-UV9G-User-Manual.pdf
  6. In the parent manual it’s section 4, Remote Control, which starts on page 49.
  7. Menu 45 will show you the setting for Stun/kill. In order to stun/kill you they have to send the same ANI code as set in your radio. The ANI code is set in menu 15. The menu numbers are for the kg1000, your model might be slightly different but this is all covered by the manual.
  8. It obviously is or your wattmeter wouldn’t register 3.96 watts.
  9. Actually in the second frequency you tried, when you first PTT your meter showed 3.96 watts. Then it started dropping off.
  10. If they killed your radio it wouldn’t work. If they stunned your radio it wouldn’t work. There is no “deflate their ego” function.
  11. It doesn’t quite work that way. Stun/kill has to be enabled on the radios I have with it.
  12. Here’s what a Reddit user said: Stun is a setting which will allow the radio to receive but not be controlled or used to transmit. It will listen for the revive command. It's a commercial radio feature. For example, if you have a radio which found it's way into the wrong department and need to get it back...you stun the radio so the current user brings the radio in. The radio can then either be remotely revived or revived through reprogramming the codeplug. Now there is also a function called kill...which is used to make the radio inoperable. In cases where a killed radio can be recovered, it will have to go back to the manufacturer (with the associated service fee) to be fixed. Short of Stun/Revive/Kill: A stunned radio can be revived. A killed radio is dead.
  13. Linked in has him at Pueblo Community College.
  14. The license was first issued in late 2021, so it’s not a grandfathered one. I agree that it appears that the owner (Shauna Cape) allows hams to use the repeater using her call sign WROQ916? I agree that it’s not kosher, but it’s not my circus and not my monkeys. But I also did note that the address for the licensee included a line to divert the mail to the attention of someone else (Jerald) apparently in the same household.
  15. I agree with @WRZD727. After my comment the other day, I went to the Montana Search and Rescue website and there’s nothing mentioned there. Nor is there on the Butte-Silver Bow 15-90 Search and Rescue. Neither have I ever seen the state advertise anything related to FRS or GMRS. I pretty sure there’s no official FRS/GMRS frequency plan at this time.
  16. Not all repeaters are configured to give a tail.
  17. Have you ever heard anyone else on the same frequency for either repeater?
  18. Since this subject was revisited, it could be as simple as someone leaving a radio on VOX near a TV or broadcast radio receiver.
  19. Here’s exactly what they say: In Wyoming, people frequently need the assistance of Search and Rescue. No matter how small or large the situation might be, Search and Rescue volunteers are there to help get people home safely. Here are some steps you can take to increase your chances of being rescued. Buy an FRS/GMRS capable radio or walkie talkie and program the 307 channel into the radio. Program to UHF 462.6125 Privacy Code 85.4 or Channel 3 and Privacy code 07 (307). If, or when, you become stranded, if searchers are looking for you they can attempt to contact you on this channel. It is not a 911 type channel. Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. Ask local authorities if a check-in form is available. Pack appropriate gear and supplies. See resource link below. Have a portable radio and have it programmed to the 307 Channel. This channel is not a 911, but it can assist you when monitored by Search and Rescue personnel. Check the weather and avalanche forecast. Search and Rescue personnel will not actively monitor channel.
  20. It does have a DM function. Bring up the profile of someone and click the envelope below their profile picture.
  21. It might have been that your two radios were just too close together. The transmission of one can deafen the receiver on the other.
  22. Okay, curiosity got the better of me. I downloaded the manual. Those "two channels" A and B are really two time-slots on a single frequency. Each DMR channel has two time-slots. Both channels use the same frequency, but you can set up the repeater to use Time-slot 1 for one talkgroup and Time-slot 2 for another talkgroup. Of course that's a moot point in GMRS the way the regs are right now. So, one frequency pair, broken into two time-division multiplexed "channels". Not usable for GMRS, and an analog transmission talks over both time slots. So, you are right that two different conversations could take place at the same time. Here's the manual: https://www.hytera.us/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Hytera-RD982i-RD982i-S-RD982i-S-100W-Digital-Repeater-Owners-Manual.pdf That repeater is beyond end of life.
  23. The Digital LED is just an indicator to let you know when it’s a digital signal. It’s not a separate channel. I don’t believe that channel A and channel B can both be used simultaneously, I’ve said that multiple times now. If you want more information you should contact the vendor.
  24. Change the RX tone to none and see if it helps. Also, keep some distance between the two radios.
