  1. Frs had 14 channels and .5 watts from day one. Just some early radios only had a limited number of channels. Frs never allowed more than half a watt......until the recent rule change. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  2. I'm also in central ohio....Columbus, polaris area. I can't make it into Johnstown very well. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  3. Im.thinking, these are frs, not gmrs radios. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  4. Just be careful.....Roger beeps are "good buddy beeps" to truck drivers. You may find yourself the recipient of an invite to a rest area men's room for a romantic interlude [emoji16] Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  5. Mime came Monday. It's great. I like the fact there are no hard coded channels. You can put any gmrs frequency in any channel memory..or not. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  6. Well, where I'm going with this is that the travel and calling frequency has already been established. Why is it necessary to come up with another one. Just support the existing standard.
  7. Does it actually display their call sign? Just curious.....if there is something to this. At any rate, reading replies to my comment has educated me a bit and I see that MDC is likely used in important ways.
  8. Can't. The V1 has a "write once" firmware. Once burned into the chip, it's there forever. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  9. I call MDC "whacker tone" because whackers use it to sound "official". I really see no legitimate use for it at all. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  10. Actually, there is another channel that has been in place for decades. 462.675 pl 141.3 has been the recognized travel channel for decades. Many repeaters are here, on this frequency/tone. It would have been a good idea to do your homework before all this. All you are doing is creating confusion. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  11. Those rebranded QYT radios are famous for that. Take underpowered finals "overclocked" for lack of a better term and drive them to 50 watts. Pair that with a very inefficient cooling system and you are looking for trouble. I've got a similar btech amateur rig and I lost 70cm power output completely. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  12. Or a blown final and the driver is providing the output. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  13. Actually, what people refer to as channel 20, has been the travel channel for decades. There is also a designated pl tone. Many open repeaters use this frequency and tone. Only this "new breed" and some lunatic YouTube er are calling for 19. Personally, I prefer to talk to the old guard anyways. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  14. I have a few n9tax antennas and have always had good results. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  15. Yeah. I was on that group too. Did the same. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  16. Yeah. Still at it. They run their overpowered inbred radios and make local communications impossible. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  17. I actually got the radio from the Tidradio folks. Got it for free, so I'm not out anything. Didn't get it from Radiooddity.
  18. It's in my mailbox. I'll check it out when I get home from work. Thanks! Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  19. Got it from the Tidradio people on Amazon. They are clueless on firmware. They've since taken them off Amazon, due to rather scathing reviews. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  20. I got that....halfway there... now need the firmware installation tool.
  21. It doesn't allow a high/low power adjustment though
  22. Cannot set pl tone from front panel. Cannot set hi/low power from front panel. Cannot select wide/narrow (although this one isn't important) from the front panel. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  23. To restore factory settings, you must download and install a factory image. As always, it is recommended to always upload a factory image to your computer and save it away. A computer is quite obviously required in this case. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  24. The updated software *still* doesn't correct all the issues. I need the *firmware* Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
  25. Yeah....I know who you are. I actually decoded the cwid of the repeater and looked you up....I assumed the repeater was in Columbus, so I was confused for a moment. I have the same call I've always had. Sent from my SM-A125U using Tapatalk
