  1. Bear in mind, use of a uv-5r is illegal on GMRS and MURS. They do not have part 95 certification. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
  2. DNT most certainly requires a license. Either a commercial license or an Amateur Radio license. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
  3. Well there really aren't even any GMRS bubble packs out there that even come close to 2 watts. Looking at Fcc data, most bubblepacks are below 1 watt. The industry has had the opportunity to make radios up to 5 watts; but none have done So. We will see, I guess. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  4. Priority mail is my favorite. 2 to 3 days. Beats UPS or FedEx imho. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  5. The original 14 channel frs only radios did have those channels as narrow band. When they created frs, they dropped the frs channels in and between some pre existing GMRS frequencies. When the New regulations take effect, sometime in the coming couple months, all 22 channels on bubble pack radios will be legal for frs users with a 2 watt limit. Frs users will be able to use the wide band channels. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  6. Well those channels transmit in wide band, which is GMRS only. FRS only permits narrow band use under current Rules. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  7. Not gonna fly any way you cut it. GMRS and amateur are separate services. Operations across multiple services are forbidden. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  8. The Miklor site has a good explanation of the chirp squelch adjustments. The factory thresholds generally need tweaking. Suggested values are presented. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  9. Not sure about that. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  10. They have excellent customer service. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  11. It goes into effect 30 days after being published in the federal register. I think equipment must be compliant in 180 days. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  12. You cannot register unless you have a GMRS license. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  13. Reading into it more....I reverse my previous statement. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  14. I think if they meant for it to be legal, they would say "operate" instead of "Control". Seems to me, linking would be illegal. Sent from my LG-D631 using Tapatalk
  15. Great way to get rid of pirates! Sent from my A746HD using Tapatalk
  16. I believe GMRS regs require a 15 minute ID interval. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  17. They are only part 95 approved for 2 watts. Their higher power grant was dismissed. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  18. Yeah.. Allow users to easily mark a repeater as out of service. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  19. The uv5r series is hit or miss. Some earlier versions had poor audio. Being designed around a commercial model, the microphone circuit isn't very hot, to prevent picking up background noise. 20. Yeah....that's true. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  21. Well, there is a risk of an unlicensed person getting on the zello channel and using the repeater. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  22. Data communications are, however, allowed on MURS. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  23. There is a new family on one of the shared frequencies. That isn't a big deal. All I've heard recently. Fortunately, I rarely listen to those...they lean on the call tone too much. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  24. I forgot to listen....May have to listen later and call out saying I'll talk to any licensed GMRS operators. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
  25. Well, just buy them and use them. The FCC ID is on them. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation.
