  1. It used to be mounted in my car, with the roof as the ground plane for the antenna. I replaced it with a Yaesu FTM-6000R and Tram 1181 antenna, so now it sits on my desk with a sheet of foil under the antenna for a weak ground plane. (It would work better if I placed the antenna outside, but I rent an apartment and have nowhere to put the antenna.)
  2. I have a Retevis RA25, which is the same radio. I have it paired with a Nagoya UT-72G and it works great for GMRS.
  3. My GMRS personality argues with my Amateur Radio personality constantly. It's like the other voices can't get a word in.
  4. It's not difficult, you just need to get the basics down. You don't need a H.A.M. license unless you want to get one. I can say that, because I have both lol
  5. Clearly, the science is settled.
  6. When in doubt, look it up on YouTubes, SOMEONE will likely have a testing video somewhere.
  7. I'm easy to find, but if someone reached out to me, I would ignore them. That might just be me.
  8. I wish Josh would get right on that
  9. Of course it depends on what you want to get from it. My favorite GMRS-only radio is the Wouxun KG-935G Plus. I am also a huge fan of my Wouxun KG-UV9D Mate H.A.M. radio. Other folks may not want to spend the money (I also have some cheapo Baofengs, like most here). My suggestion is to watch a bunch of YouTubes, get a feel for what you want to do with it, and get a feel for the wide range of radios that are available. It's kind of like asking "What's the best car for my needs?"
  10. The best part of that article is that the person in the photo is using MURS. I guess Walmart and fast food restaurants have proven to be formidable enemies.
  11. Are you using a ground plane plate to help measure the SWR? Measuring HTs can be tough from what I have read.
  12. Get used to it. It usually happens after the third or fourth reply.
  13. It cracks me up how the militia guys will spend $$$ on guns, ammo, and preserved food, but they cheap out on radios (that they probably aren't even licensed for).
  14. I know a guy that can get me lots of these, for the right buyer. Unless you're a narc.
  15. The tiger tail is 80's approved
  16. I don't know anything about that antenna. However, I have a MARS-modded Yaesu 6000r and it pairs wonderfully with my Tram 1181 on 2m, 70cm, and GMRS, without adjustments.
  17. You may want to reset the combinations on your luggage while you're at it, Mr. 1234
