Digital Data on GMRS Mobile (Midland asking FCC for rule change)
WRUU653 replied to WRUU653's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I really can't argue with that. I do think they are looking at this for the off-road users as their primary target. -
can I use a digirig on gmrs through zello to my repeater
WRUU653 replied to WRXH658's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Yes. You and your family will still need to identify with your call sign even if it’s a closed repeater but you won’t have to have the repeater ID if it’s only your family using it. For your convenience adding a unit number to your ID is acceptable if you like. c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. -
How to pull broken pin in SMA connector?
WRUU653 replied to MarkInTampa's question in Technical Discussion
@markskjerve, your idea is the same as mine. I think Neodymium Magnets would work if the pin isn’t stainless. Or @Sshannon’s idea. If you get it out please let us know what worked. Good luck. -
Last contact with his unit… Boris you go over there and we’ll call you on channel 15 if the area is invaded and there is a risk of capture. Some time later… Boris says to no one “I don’t think channel 15 is working”

You are correct, I can confirm one year as my friends needed updating recently.
-
Hello Mike and welcome. @WRXB215 is correct, it usually takes a couple days at most for the FCC to put it in the database that this site uses to verify your call, unless the FCC is having issues. You can check the database here.

Keep in mind repeaters are frequently on hills and mountains with higher output than an HT or some mobile radios. Their hight and power is an advantage to reach further so it may reach you but you may or may not reach it. This line of sight tool may give you an idea of your paths to the repeater. Good luck.

best ⅝ wave GMRS high gain NMO antenna
WRUU653 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
Why not? My truck's lighter sockets are rated at 120 watts. Stock. Nothing out of the ordinary. Quiz, can you tell me how many amps that is? It's a rhetorical question. That means I'm not interested in a response because clearly you don't get it. Not knowing things isn't a crime. In fact that is what has been great about this community. That people help people and they become educated. You got to want info though and you are something else. Let's recap. When you told us it was pulling 23 watts on 13.8 volts, well you are the one that told us it was less than two amps (regardless if you realize that or not, math/ohms law, you should try it). When @nokones asked for some clarification (because your statment made no sense) you insult him. That's a great way to show us how absolutely brilliant you are. double down and insult the guy. Then @Sshannon tries to explain because clearly their was no need to be insulting people and you insult him and say he's wrong. No he is not and being loud and insulting dosn't change that. I don't understand why this forum has taken a turn for the worst with all the insultling lately but I can pin point the people doing it. It would be nice if you could try being a better human here on the forum. Regardless you are going on my ignore list which does make this a nice Sunday morning indeed. -
Okay I'm throwing more darts here. Do you use an external speaker? If so are you sure it's plugged in all the way?

Forgive me if you know some of this already. Since you mentioned it only happens on repeater channels my first question may seem odd but are you using repeater channels to contact a repeater? You wont be able to use preset repeater channels for simplex as TX an RX are not the same frequencies. My second thought is if you are contacting repeaters It is my understanding that Midlands tone chart differs from others. Is it possible you have the wrong tones on RX. Try turning tones off on the RX of your repeater channels then you should hear all despite if it is through a repeater or simplex. One last thought if you have two radios close to eachother one may be desensing the other canceling out your receive. You may need to seperate the radios with some distance. I hope some of this helps.

Welcome @WRNN959 to the forum and retirement! That all sounds great, and a dog guy as well. What is this thing you call spare time though? Where can I get me some of that? I like your plan.

...or maybe @Sshannon was just trying to help someone out solely for the satisfaction of helping them. Unfortunately "some people" have no gratitude.
-
The low power and fixed antenna I would think limit these radios in comparison to our GMRS. Still I found it interesting to see how radio services are handled differently in other places.
-
Thanks for the link @Lscott. After reading about PMR446 our GMRS looks pretty good.
-
The Retevis RT97S looks to be similar to the Midland at somewhat less cost. I have no experience with either, perhaps someone who does will chime in.

You may find this video helpful as well. It was put together by one of our regular contributors here @marcspaz

Welcome @Murph62. You got it right. Simplex (radio to radio) doesn’t require tones but if you do have them set then you want both radios to be set the same. Tones can open squelch on repeaters so you can use them. They can also prevent you from hearing others that don’t have the same tones set. Others without them set will still hear you.

How long to get the Call Sign from the GMRS Licensing sign up?
WRUU653 replied to a topic in Guest Forum
I think most do it that way, the very nice people at ARRL said they have tried convincing the people that did mine to just upload their info to no avail. Small problems in the big scheme of things really. It didn’t really take away from my experience. -
How long to get the Call Sign from the GMRS Licensing sign up?
WRUU653 replied to a topic in Guest Forum
You’d think so. Except the VE’s that gave me my test snail mailed the forms from the west coast to the ARRL on the east coast. Once the ARRL had them it only took a day… I think it took 10 days total to get my ham call sign. I was getting worried the pony died in route. -
Welcome @CTarna to the forum.

I hope everyone had and is having a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels. late post I know. Great day yesterday with all our guests, still more kids and grandkids arriving today.

I get my Wouxun KG-1000 G Plus Mobil Today - Base Antenna Discussion
WRUU653 replied to Tiercel's question in Technical Discussion
It says it’s an open system and it shows the tones so you have what you need to access the repeater. They ask for you to fill out the request so they know who’s using it so if you did that you’re good to go. That’s the way I interpret it. Looks like there are a few repeaters near you so that’s nice. -

WRUU653 replied to Tiercel's question in Technical Discussion
Congratulations @Tiercel. I had the same experience with people talking during our test. I hadn’t really noticed until another person taking the test just asked them to stop. Then it was quiet. Glad it worked out and you got your license.
