$35 to get the license. Set up the group as a non-profit and/or ask your city/town/county to help fund it. Each member can get their own license, then be reimbursed by the organization.

Tyt 9800d plus programing help needed.
Hoppyjr replied to DOAUSMC0331's question in Technical Discussion
Have you read the manual? If you purchased the RT systems software, they have video tutorials that make it pretty darn easy, you just have to invest the time and watching them and reading the manual. Sometimes you have to watch the video and read the manual multiple times to get it. In general when programming; first read from the radio and save that original configuration file (give it a name). Then go line by line in the software, naming each channel, typing in the appropriate frequency, if the offset is not automatically done by your software, you’ll have to add the offset, then you’ll add the tones for the specific repeater. Once you’ve completed all of that, you will write that file to the radio. As others have said, upload a copy of the file that you have completed and people here might be able to provide more information. -

Permission for using gmrs call sign by those not in same household

You seem to be pretty obsessed with regulations and what other people do. I’m gonna find an old “Junior Trooper” sticker badge and send it to you. Be sure you wear it whenever you wear your Radio Shack helmet, the one with the flashing red light on top. …..but only when you’re taking enforcement action! Edit: below from your Sept post. You called the FCC?! Man, life is too short to be wound this tightly. -
Merry Christmas!

The latest update fixed it for me, so everything moved over nicely. Now when I update it’s much easier for both.

I’m also a fan of RT Systems software. While there may be occasional bugs, the company does work with the customer to resolve issues promptly when you contact them. I had a code plug I like for the Icom 2730 and when I picked up the ID-50 I found issues when pushing that code plug to the handheld. RT claims the fields should populate to correct fields, but I didn’t find that to be so. A quick call to RT and a couple revisions over the next day, and problem solved. Nothing is perfect but I’m a definitely planning on using them moving forward.

Shortest 2-meter 70 cm mobile Antenna?
Hoppyjr replied to RIPPER238's question in Technical Discussion
As I understand it, the Compactenna is intended to be mounted near the edge of hood or roof for best performance. That would suggest center roof isn’t the ideal location for this specific antenna. -
Shortest 2-meter 70 cm mobile Antenna?
Hoppyjr replied to RIPPER238's question in Technical Discussion
I’ve done a good bit of research on this too, looking for a dual-band short “ghost” style antenna. My search resulted in nothing of value. The Compactenna is about the only semi-short option, but the preferred mounting location at the edge of roof/hood makes it less desirable for my center roof mounted NMO mount. I ended up with the Larsen Tri-band Whip Antenna, (NMO150/450/758). It’s designed for public safety use, with a spring included. It’s less than 18” tall. https://www.arcantenna.com/products/pulse-larsen-nmo150-450-758-tri-band-antenna?srsltid=AfmBOopxJXUZ53aeHao9Li0Orm88usGPErzdN4XUbKID_h-Q8yxXwUpV -
Welcome FNG. Your best bet to start with watching some YouTube videos on GMRS. Randy’s channel is a good place to start (Notarubicon). After you do a little Internet research and watch some videos, most of your questions should be answered. Effort = Results [emoji482]

I think we should call him “Scooter”

While not a “stubby” I’m using the Smiley Slim Duck on a couple radios and it’s working great.

How does DCS comply with Part 95 "No Digital Data" on 467Mhz?
Hoppyjr replied to Suburbazine's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I’m sure you’re asking in jest, but sure….. It’s not a specific rule, rather the overarching volume of regulations. There are also far too many regulations, many of which are ineffective, and often created by bureaucrats who don’t understand their implementation. Government is bloated in virtually every area. It needs to operate lean & efficiently - and in the best interests of the citizenry. Government employees should be held to high standards and removed if they don’t perform. It’s a privilege to work in government, serving the public. Government agencies, to include the FCC need to understand the recent Loper Bright SCOTUS decision and be guided accordingly. Unnecessary and/or ineffective regulations should be eliminated. Nee rules, if they carry the effect of law, should be created via the legislative process. I love this country, although we seem to have strayed from the founding principles. I won’t go into further detail as that would take us down a political rabbit hole. -

This is the by product of government regulators who make rules for the sake of making rules. I’m sure they don’t have an issue with what we’re talking about. Just another reason to cut government in pretty much every area. -

It’s not “data” it’s an access tone. By data they mean like a modem would transmit back in the day. Two different things. -
If by interesting you mean annoying as heck, then yeah, it’s interesting. Same issue on pretty much every forum, new people don’t use the search function so the same stuff repeats over and over and over….

Man, I’d pay extra for a “thread ignore” button.

Government is never the answer.
