My CHIRP new release on a Mac working... It is empty screen on first startup.  You have you go to FILE open a config or go to Radio and download from radio after connecting radio to computer.  You will see it is working.  The screen only shows what you are asking the software to do.  So empty screen waiting for your request.

OK that is a port issue for your USB... I'm not a current MS Windows guy, but in the pass you have to see if your USB port is active...  I also notice that my new download of CHIRP has to be where near or in same directory as app and config files where the USB port setting files are.

Edit... I notice my updated CHIRPS goes to download and not in the directory I use for the app.

Download from radio does nothing.  I can open a file but no selections for Port, etc. and get no activity.

I'm not sure if this is all-inclusive, but in general you will need to give Chirp the rights to access USB and the disk/directories where you store the code plugs.

Also, have you used the cable with this radio in the past?  Not all are equal and some found on sites like Amazon are fakes.  This one is known to work with Baofeng:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HUB0ONK

I have a Baofeng BF 888S which I have programmed on the 400Mhz band. There is an association that uses the HYT TC 518. The default PL is 67 so I programmed that into my BF. The HYT is able to transmit to the BF, but the BF dosen't transmit to the HYT. What could be the problem? I used CHRIP to program the BF.

It sounds like you may have programmed the receive tone but not the transmit tone.

That is a possibility but I don't know what the transmit code would be. I have the tone mode as tone, the tone sql defaults to 88.5, the DTCS code and the Rx DTCS code default to 23, the DTCS pol is NN, mode is FM and power is high. I tried to set the Tone sql to 67.0 but it reverted back to the default of 88.5. I am at a lost. So if anyone could help it would be much appreciated. The frequency that I am using on this is 464.5500. The full nomenclature for the Hytera is TC-518V OBR. Thank you.

did some poking at chirp tonight on my netbook (linux), but none of the images on that one have tones set, so i'm looking at the possibilities from chirp's memory editor columns page. (great reference to keep around; https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MemoryEditorColumns ).

from what you describe, the "tone mode" column setting will have it transmit a tone, but not expect one on receive (which means it hears everything, whether or not the incoming signal has a tone); this is why you can hear the other radio, and also why chirp isn't wanting to change the Tsql column (because it isn't actually using that setting, or either of the DCS settings).  if you want to set the tone for both tx and rx, you want the tone mode set to "TSQL", and set the correct tone on the TSQL column.

Now onto the tone numbers themselves...that the other radio isn't not hearing you points to your transmit tone isn't the correct one...while 67 may be the default tone for the Hytera, it may not be the PL the association is using.

it sounds like you're mostly much on the right track with the settings, but getting the right tone is a critical one for the radios to get along.
