Display issue on GM-30

WRZT933

Question

Just picked up a GM-30 from Amazon.  Charged it up for a few hours and turned it on.  Set it up to just start scanning and set it down for a bit.  Looked at it a bit later and the display had a black bar running thru the middle of the screen.  Did a power cycle and not the display is dead, shows no text at all.  Does seem to be operational other than the display.

I did try a reset all (Menu+40) but that didn't do anything.

Anything else to try before sending back?

Easy thing to do is just do a Amazon return

This is why I always recommend buying from Amazon instead of direct from the manufacturer website, even if it costs 6 more dollars, because of how easy Amazon makes it to do returns.. Not so much when you buy direct.

I think you should send it back. I doubt you will be able to do anything about it. This may not be an uncommon problem with cheap radios. I have a UV-5R GMRS with a row of pixels out right through the middle of the top line. The radio still works and I can still read the top line so I never sent it back. Now you've got me worried the whole thing may go out. 😮

Radioddity is usually pretty good when it comes to customer service even when yo go through Amazon to contact them about any issue. I had bought my Baofeng GT-5R through the Radioddity Amazon store and it was missing the ear bud that was supposed to be included. hen I reached out to Radioddity through Amazon, they refunded my money and told me to keep the radio. I definitely can't complain about that.

I generally always make a return thru amazon when purchasing thru them.  In this case I wanted to know if there was some way to reset this thing.  The whole process turned into showing them what was wrong and then finally them sending me a new radio.  While they were responsive there were very long delays in their response so what could have been handled in a day took 4.  Email from me first then in the morning, and a response from them anywhere from 10pm to 2am.  Messaging someone in China I would guess.

Anyway I have a brand new cheap radio on the way.  Hopefully this one works longer than 15 minutes :)
