WSCS769 Posted May 26 Report Posted May 26 Two Icom 2730a units w/MARS mod, one mobile, and one base w/comet GP-3. I'm pretty utilitarian. may get a handheld, we'll see, haven't though much of it. Waiting for a new release Anytone DMR this summer really, But will need a GMRS one as well I suppose haha.... Not sure. Hoppyjr 1 Quote
WSCY704 Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 Handheld: Alinco DJ-G46. Brand new GMRS radio they just released. Really nice little radio. Not as full featured as some, but what it does it does well. wrci350 1 Quote

Waiting for a new release Anytone DMR this summer really, But will need a GMRS one as well I suppose haha.... Not sure. I like my 2730a w/Mars-Cap mod so much, I’ve considered picking up a couple Icom IC T10 (w/ Mars-Cap) handhelds too. While it’s apparently not superheterodyne, I’m thinking it must be a couple steps above the typical CCR. Quote
WSDA973 Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 For GMRS Baofeng GM-15 pro just got yesterday. Nice little radio. For Ham.... Alinco DR-605t for base with a older Motorola power supply got at a local hamfest for $35.00 total, Yaesu VX6, Yaesu FT-70, Motorola Astro Saber uhf with p25 phase 1 Quote
Hoppyjr Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 I like my 2730a w/Mars-Cap mod so much, I’ve considered picking up a couple Icom IC T10 (w/ Mars-Cap) handhelds too. While it’s apparently not superheterodyne, I’m thinking it must be a couple steps above the typical CCR. I’ve enjoyed the 2730, so I just picked up the ID-50 handheld. While it’s overkill for GMRS use (with Mars mod), it will be ideal when I add the next license. The radio is quite nice, both in build quality and feature set. We mounted my “old” Midland MTX575 in my son’s Jeep, and Friday his Midland GXT67 Pro handheld will arrive. I’m lucky to live in an area with a decent repeater and some great folks to talk to. We had a big picnic last weekend and got to put faces with names. Good times. Quote
WRQI663 Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Not listing my amateur radio gear, too many radios GMRS - 2 bow fangs, a uv5g and a gm21 - and a couple of fake motos (gp-68) I don't need a fixed station for gmrs, the ht's will do it for me. I also don't like those nagoya 771s unless it's for ht fencing --- "En garde" Quote

WSCY704 Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Alinco DJ-G46. Alinco's new GMRS HT. Works well. Sounds good on receive, and I've had good audio reports from those I've talked to on both Simplex and Repeaters. The receiver is quite sensitive, but has good rejection too. The output power is 4.90W on the lower channels, .5 on the FRS channels, and right at 5W for the repeaters. It can be programmed with software, but I've not done that so I can't report on that aspect. The antenna connection is a Reverse SMA. (Wish is was the standard SMA but not a deal breaker). I also purchased the High capacity battery, and I can go several days with heavy use before i have to recharge it. And the high capacity battery can be charged with the standard desk charger that comes with the radio. The radio does not have any external power ports, so you have to use batteries. There is also a speaker mic plug, covered with the rubber dust cover. I don't have a speaker mic for this rig. One drawback I've found, is the back light only stays on for about 5 or 6 seconds, I would like to be able to have it on for 10 seconds, but i see no way to change it, even with the software. Again not a deal breaker. All in All a nice little radio, that performs well. Quote
WSDD519 Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Have two of the TIDRadio TD-H8s in "alien green" along with an Icom ID5100 (used for a base station). HTs get most of the use as repeater has solid coverage in my area. Quote
